Best

miraculously pleased a huge group of picky ladies. i love my bff but her crew likes to complain especially about everything related to the upcoming wedding. :) so everyone had...

Worst

I went here a few times to sing, which was back in 2006, which wasn't bad, but they didn't have a big selection of songs at all. I also went to record a cd, but you can't control...

SuzyQ 11/10/2007

The staff was really unfriendly. The DJ gave me a really horriable attitude and ignored a question I had. Besides this the DJ was really bad, constantly looking at his own reflection, and slurring his words. The place was really dirty. The floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months, and the tables were littered with beer bottles; causeing a hazard if there was a fight. Alcohol and fighting can sometimes go together, and buisness's should take percausions with this. The equipment was faulty and not working. The drinks were overpriced and the cover was too much for what they had going on in the club. The website was misleading giving information of a bigger space with a varity of drinks to choose from. In reality the place was small and they didn't even have a full bar. The only good thing about the place was that it had a good varity of songs, which is where the one star comes into play. The crowd was young with more college age rich drunk kids, not as diverse as I wanted, but it was an experience. One that I would never do again, and would advise people to save there money and go to a place thats cleaner with nicer staff, and equipment that actually works. Pros: good selection of music Cons: faulty equipment, bad DJ, dirty place, horrible/non existant service, misleading website, overpriced more

* perfect for bachelorette 5/2/2007

I'm in three weddings this summer, and was nervous about making the decision for the bachelorette party. A few online searches brought me to Limelite's site and I decided to take a risk (I hadn't been before and the other bridesmaids hadn't either). It was the best time, so I'd highly recommend for a memorable girls night out. I think the private room is worth paying more because it's more fun to rock out when you don't have strangers watching. We had so much fun I told the maid of honors at the other weddings I'm in because I want an excuse to go back! Pros: current songs more

Very fun, Very different 9/20/2006

I've been in Boston for 3 years and felt like I had done everything worth doing. However I just visited limelight club on the recommendation of a friend and was shocked I hadn't come across it earlier. So if you like karaoke - it's an absolute must, but even if you are like me and can take singing only in small doses, I think it's definitely worth a visit. I've been to karaoke many times before, but I found this experience different because it was 'japanese' style karaoke. We had a room to ourselves which was awesome. Strangers singing badly = annoying... your friends singing badly = hilarious! more

DONT MISS THE BAND 8/11/2006

limelight got me into the studios, which i guess is big in ny, but never saw here. i do the club once in awhile but now that there is the option to sing with a cover band, that is my favorite. i'd highly recommend especially for a special event like a birthday. we told the host it was my friends 25th and they got her on stage and made a big deal and gave her cake too! Pros: live band, rooms more

This place is real cool 7/23/2006

I went there this past Sat night with my boyfriend and I sang a couple of songs. It was so much fun. I got to really sing, not just goof off. The crowd is nice and loud. The hosts are great and you got to sing as many times you possibly can! I'll back again. Definite plus for Limelight! Pros: Lots of songs, crowd, price Cons: Too bad it closes at 1AM more

livin' the dream 6/22/2006

I can't be the only one who has always secretly fantasized abt being a rock star... so I need to spread the word about this 'live band' kareoke. I pretty much stumbled upon it last week (maybe its every wk? dunno). Instead of singing over the kareoke music, you get to sing with a full cover band. The lights were blinding and with music blaring and these guys rockin out behind me I got such a rush. Very cool ! I'll be back for sure. Pros: "uniqueness" more

best karaoke in boston is even better 5/9/2006

I've been a fan of Limelight since my first visit about 1.5 yrs. ago now. Each time I've gone in since then - the place has noticeably improved. The song library has grown (every song you could ever want to sing), the food and drink menu has expanded, the venue has already gotten a facelift (new stage, new floors, new bar etc). The staff, who have always been friendly, now actually seem to know what they are doing - and even better - actually perform periodically throughout the night. I'm also a fan of new events that are being offered - from live band karaoke to ""movieoke"". So, for those who may not have checked in this place in awhile - I'd really recommend stopping in again. Pros: nice crowd, huge song selection Cons: parking is tough more

What a great place! 4/8/2006

I went to Limelight with a group of friends this weekend and had a blast. I was a little put off by the host at the door who grilled me about my ""reservation"" for some reason, but once i got beyond that point, it was pure fun. EVERYONE in my group did karaoke, which I was not expecting, but the place makes getting up there are singing contagious. Highly recommend. Pros: fun crowd, great atmosphere Cons: expensive drinks more

* perfect place for bachelorette party * 3/25/2006

A message to all the maid of honors out there - this is a great place for a memorable bachelorette. I've been a bridesmaid more times than I care to admit and was having trouble coming up with ideas this time around. A colleague recommended a ""karaoke box"" and although I was nervous to do something different - it was really a hit. We checked out the club as well, but preferred the private room (no need to have witnesses!) I'd advise making a reservation because we assumed we could walk-in and had to wait about 30 min. for the room. Pros: private room, lots of country songs, accommodating staff Cons: waiting list for room more

soooooooooo much fun 3/8/2006

OMG Limelight is one of bostons hidden treasures! ... although it was pretty busy so I guess its not that hidden. Great Staff - so friendly and nice! This place is so great - for after work, planning a party or whatever! I you go and dont plan on singing haha...u will! ANd the rooms sooo cool. You can change the color of the lights. This place is AWESOME adn they have liek a million songs SOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. Everyone should go there!!! more

birthday party central 3/7/2006

I really struggled to think of a place that would be fun, festive, unique but a guaranteed good time for a birthday celebration. Given that the invite list was composed mostly of people in their late 20s, Lansdowne and the Ally wouldn't be the right scene. Last year we did Kings, but the upscale bowling thing is feeling pretty old by now. After googling like crazy I came across this place, which turned out to be perfect for us. Since I was lucky, I thought by posting this, I could make someone else's life a little easier as party planning is definitely very stressful. I'd recommend doing a private room (""studio"") over the club, because it's really crowded in the stage area and can take awhile to get your song request up. Pros: huge song library, friendly staff, theater district Cons: not a full bar, parking is tough more

college night...finally! 3/6/2006

my friends and i love the limelight but totally hate that there's a cover charge. anyway i'm happy that they finally are helping us poor college kids out. :) now with a student id, we get in FREEE and rooms are cheaper on thurs nights. i wanna get word out to other schools (shocking for boston, but it is ALL AGES by the way) who want to karaoke with us regulars on thursdays. fyi - definitely an older crowd on the weekends! Pros: tons of new songs, all ages, across the street! more

Fun Karaoke, Bad Drinks & Service 3/4/2006

We went to limelight for my birthday. The atmosphere and karaoke were great. But the service was horrific. The DJ was trying to let newer people go first, which is really nice, only he was doing a terrible job and letting the same singers go again and again. The worst part about limelight is the bar. It costs 8 dollars for a rum and coke. The rum comes out of a plastic bottle, and the coke... well it isn't coke it's ""polar cola."" On top of that, the drinks were incredibly weak. When I nicely told the host that we had a great time but I had that one complaint, he informed me that he was just a host and made 10 dollars an hour and couldn't do anything about it. Pros: high tech karaoke Cons: bar more

great for big parties 2/10/2006

I saw this place written up on the cover of the herald and the globe... so I decided this couldn't be your typical dive karaoke bar. I decided to try it out for a birthday party for ~30 ppl. We started out in a private room. That was a huge hit. I'm a singer, so I knew I'd love it, but all my friends totally rocked out, too. The studio rates are pricey... so after 2.5 hours (we planned to do only 1 - definitely check your watch - it's a time warp in there!) we went out to the club area. That was a cool scene, but really crowded and since we got there late - there was a huge waiting list for songs. That was the great part of the studio room, we could hog the mic for hours on end! Pros: karaoke rooms, huge song selection, waitress svc in room Cons: studio rental $$, long line for songs more

Sweeeeet Caroline - ba ba ba... 12/21/2005

good times never seemed so good SO GOOD SOOO GOOOOD! Ok, so this song is the perfect karaoke crowd pleaser and I'm proud to say I did an exceptional rendition over at Limelight Stage. It was my first visit to the place - and I'm writing in to citysearch (another first) because I thought it was an awesome time. In Boston, there aren't that many night spots I don't feel over-the-hill as a thirty-something, but despite the fact that LL is all-ages - there was a little bit of everything. Seriously - EVERYTHING - from a group of 20+ people dressed up as Santa belting out Mariah's 'All I want for Christmas' to some cutie bachelorettes screaming 'I will survive.' Vocal talent is iffy - but that's not what karaoke is about anyway. People here definitely are out to have a good time. Pros: great karaoke, upscale setting, cool host more

a hidden treasure 12/17/2005

I read a Boston Globe cover story about Limelight last week. (I guess with that kind of exposure, this place won't be 'hidden' much longer.) I was concerned that as a 30-something I'd be too old the hip new 'it' place. The Globe article had lots of photos featuring a very young and very attractive crowd. Yet, the same article mentioned Mayor Menino hosted his holiday party at Limelight - so I decided to try it. I'm so glad I did! I can see why this place is getting press attention there were all types of people, a broad range of ages and *everyone* seemed to be having an outrageously fun time! Pros: diverse crowd, energetic staff, extensive song list Cons: expensive drinks more

FANTASTIC birthday bash! 12/8/2005

How did my boyfriend know this would be the perfect place to celebrate my 30th??! I guess I'm guilty of a little too much shower singing. ha! Anyway- the party was a total suprise and the venue was too. All I knew of Limelight was from a friend's experience at a corporate function there (her officemates are not letting her forget her version of 'Crazy'). I had no idea there was karaoke EVERY weekend. It's a blast! I'd highly recommend it as a memorable way to celebrate a special ocassion (lots of b-days and bachelorettes the night I went). Pros: fun crowd, boxes available, location Cons: parking, cover charge, lines more

A bachelorette to remember! 8/17/2005

This place is totally a hidden treasure! I had never even heard of it, until I came in with 10 friends for a bachelorette. I was thinking a night a night of karaoke couldn't be that fun - but OMG we had a BLAST! We were in one of those private rooms like in 'Lost in Translation'. Let's just say it's a good thing the public couldn't see us. After a few rounds of sake shots, we were singing and dancing like maniacs. It was someone's dumb idea for us to buy a DVD of it all - so I'm scared to think when that might resurface. In any case, I have to give this place a thumbs-up because it is somewhat random, but hands-down the funnest time I've had in Boston! Pros: unique, private rooms, T-accessible Cons: $5 cover, parking, limited food menu more

A karaoke-lovers dream come true 8/17/2005

I can't believe there is a karaoke place in the U.S. that puts Japanese boxes to shame. There are only English songs (they told me maybe they add others soon), but it is still the best system I've seen. Everything is digital and it is neat that you can record. Pros: price, technology, sake Cons: only english songs, crowded, parking more

A different kind of karaoke 7/14/2005

This place is great. I took some friends from NYC to Limelight over July 4th weekend to make a DVD and even they said this place was a step above karaoke places in New York. FYI-You should make reservations for the private rooms. Pros: something different, Cheap cover, in the city more
