miraculously pleased a huge group of picky ladies. i love my bff but her crew likes to complain especially about everything related to the upcoming wedding. :) so everyone had...

I went here a few times to sing, which was back in 2006, which wasn't bad, but they didn't have a big selection of songs at all. I also went to record a cd, but you can't control...

Limelight All Ages Night Very Disappointing 4/20/2011

Limelight Karaoke sceduled an ""all ages night"" at 7 p.m. during school vacation and made the kids leave at 9 p.m. because the emcee had to go to another job. The manager said he had no one else to work. The kids paid 10.00 for two hours. Sad! more

crazy night of karaoke 2/4/2010

this is a memorable spot. went for my niece's birthday years ago and couldn't imagine it would be such a scene at night, but when a friend had a bachelorette party here it was a riot. we got a private studio room and sang all night. actually after some liquid courage we did make it out on the stage too. more

entertaining night out! 9/30/2009

i'd read up on this place before coming, mostly good reviews but a couple not-so-great. i'm glad we decided to try it anyway - had a great time. rented a private studio - glad we did it in advance b/c we were there on a sat. and it was packed. probably couldn't have gotten a studio otherwise. well worth it - were able to do that and hang out in stage for a bit. good selection of beer, so that made us happy. ended up staying until close to closing time - would definitely return. fun way to spend a night! Pros: great karaoke, crowd Cons: gets really crowded, need reservation more

my favorite karaoke place 7/14/2009

it's more expensive than other places I know but it's probably because they are right off the common. the space is really nice and the show in the stage is lots of fun. i haven't tried a private room yet but the plan is to get a group of friends and check that out soon. more

bachelorette party 5/20/2009

Two maid-of-honor friends suggested Limelite Studios to me but I still hesitated because I hadn't been before. I'm really glad we booked here because everyone had a great time even though it was a tough group to please. The bride-to-be got a tad crazy on stage but the place was filled with other bachelorette parties so it was very easy to let loose. Pros: unique Cons: expensive more

best kareoke by far 4/6/2009

At first I didn't like the idea of paying a cover to sing kareoke since the places I've gone always were free. After going I see why there is a charge. Its the best kareoke I've seen: really nice facility right off the Common and lots of bells and whistles on the system like recording and touchscreens. I had a lot of fun and have been back a few times. I recommend trying a studio room or doing the club part when the band is playing. Pros: live band kareoke, kareoke rooms Cons: cover charge more

Fun place for karaoke 3/20/2009

Several of my friends love karaoke so we booked a room here. It's a little pricy since in the private rooms you pay per person/per hour so keep an eye on the time. The drinks aren't too expensive, and the music list is pretty good. The main room gets crowded quickly, but you can see some talented people and some spectacularly untalented ones as well. It's a fun night out. Pros: Great music list, private rooms are a lot of fun for groups Cons: Main room is small, gets filled to capacity quickly more

students try thursday * * 1/13/2009

limlites one of my favorite places but i find the weekend crowd at Limelite a little old. there are bachelorette parties and office stuff and not many college students fri-sat. i ended up there on a thu last week and found out that its college night. it's quieter than the weekend but given that i got in free (cuz of my student id) totally worth it. i see emerson and suffolk ppl there but were trying to spread word to other schools. there arent many under 21 places so its a real find. of course with kareoke cant go wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: lots of recent songs to sing more

best karaoke in boston!!!!!!!!!!! 1/6/2009

personally, i don't love karaoke but my best friend does and he took us to limelight this past weekend. we had a BLAST! they have tons of songs and we rented a private studio room. i read ddpaek's review and totally disagree...the bartender made sure i completely understood the contract before i signed and was really helpful with answering my questions. they charge you for the amount of time you're in the room - it's that simple. nothing unreasonable about that at all! you can also rent their portable karaoke systems for private parties and we're thinking of doing it for a house party we're hosting next month...the price is really reasonable and you get the same experience that you have in the studios in your own home!! all in all, i would definitely go back to limelight - i thought the staff was friendly, the audience in the stage area was really fun and the emcee did a great job including everyone and giving them a chance to sing. i think the cover charge is a small price to pay for how much fun we ended up having, and i will definitely go back!! i have to host a bachelorette party this summer and i will be taking the girls to LIMELIGHT!!! Pros: Best karaoke in Boston Cons: need to make a reservation! more

Overpriced and Overrated 12/10/2008

The $5 cover is equivalent to what most karaoke bars charge at the door. But, the drinks are enormously expensive. Their ""bar"" isn't really a bar either. It's a tiny little counter where 2-3 employees run around behind the counter serving drinks and doing transactions at the same time. In fact, it resembles more like a bowling alley cash register counter. While you're waiting for your next drink, you definitely miss out on your opportunity to catch other people sing or even your chance to sing because you can't see the stage! more

limelite rocks! 10/18/2008

I got the crew together for a friend's 30th and the naysayers who said karaoke wasn't their thang, ended up with their foot ..uh the mic... in their mouth. It was really a riot! People loved it across the board and our group was a mix of hipsters (not me) and those who don't rage like this too often (me). Pros: songs, lots of characters in the mix Cons: some lady singing wind beneath my wings??? more

Never go to Limelight! 10/6/2008

This place is a complete disaster. There was ONE bartender on a Saturday night! The lines were ridiculous. I got 3 beers and they were all different prices. The DJ sucked and kept putting the SAME people on stage and these guys were wasted and swearing. They were also throwing the microphones around, but she STILL kept letting them go up there. Our group was there for a party, we had a cake. I was told the cake was 45 bucks. When I went to pay for it, the RUDE manager told me the cake was 65. 65 dollars for a cake that looked like my 7 year old nephew made it. When I emailed the contact that I had been working with to reserve tables for the party the next day, she told me I should not have been charged 65 bucks. But I have not heard back from her since...well over a week ago. We will NEVER go back there. 10 dollar admission too, to wait in line forever for a drink and watch the same idiots fall off the stage. NO THANKS! Cons: The entire place more

Horrible night 2 times in a row for the Sunday comedy show 9/12/2008

The comedy show on Sunday really was horrid. We went 2 weeks in a row and second week we all just left halfway thru. Never again. Cons: everything more

its a time warp 8/20/2008

Im not a karaoke fan by any stretch of the imagination but figured I'd be a good sport since it was for a friends birthday. Our party of 12 went in the ""studio"" at 9pm and must have managed to time travel because about a few too many rounds and what seemed like an hr. later we were getting kicked out. It was apparently time to close, yep 1am. We were a bit in shock and bummed about all the $$ we somehow blew though but once our hang-over wore off we could joke about how we somehow sang or should i say ROCKED OUT for 4 hours straight! Pros: current songs Cons: hourly pricing more

Best Karaoke in Boston! 6/27/2008

Limelight is the best karaoke club in Boston, hands down. They have both private ""japanese-style"" karaoke boxes that can be rented by the hour (perfect for those with a bit of stage fright) and a stage in a bar atmosphere where patrons can sit down and order drinks and snacks while alternately serving as both audience and performer. I was surprised to find that everyone there was having a good time - very few if any of those awkward too-afraid-to-sing or even dance along types. The pricing is fair and the emcee is great, plus the staff is very friendly and very accommodating. I would highly recommend this place for a party or just a night out on the town! Pros: music selection, atmosphere, staff Cons: only open thursday, friday, saturday more

Not the greatest for recording or singing karaoke music!! 6/23/2008

I went here a few times to sing, which was back in 2006, which wasn't bad, but they didn't have a big selection of songs at all. I also went to record a cd, but you can't control your sound yourself at all, and the way it comes out - even if you think you're the greatest singer - after a few drinks, forget it!!! You'll listen, and it's horrible and you pay over $100 for the damn thing!!! I'd rather stay home and sing on my computer. It's cheaper and I get to sing and record whatever and however many times I want!! more

I'm confident enough in my masculinity to admit I enjoyed it 2/21/2008

Even though my girlfriend dragged me in, I did up having fun, as did everyone there it seemed. I've never seen such a diverse mix at a Boston night spot: bachelorettes, college students, club-types and plenty of thirty-something professionals like myself. The space is really nice and the karaoke host was fantastic. Although we don't generally frequent places with a cover; $10 seemed more than reasonable for a night of entertainment. Two warnings though: they do not carry Sam Adams, which might possibly be breaking a MA law or two, also latecomers to our party didn't get seats. more

thumbs up for office outing 2/5/2008

I've visited Limelight for two birthday celebrations which were both fun. I thought it would be a good spot for a corporate party but for some reason could not find any reviews on here or yelp for that type of event. They sent me a really extensive list of businesses that had booked (Mayor Menino had his holiday party at a karaoke place?), but I wanted some first hand feedback - so here I go. To start with areas for improvement, I did have trouble reaching a live person and when I did get information thought the pricing was on the high end. However, the event was a huge success which is why I am writing this recommendation. We had 50 people in the ""Stage"" with the highest level of appetizer buffet and open bar. People I never would have imagined getting up and singing actually did. The karaoke was a great icebreaker and got people having lots of fun. Although I didn't get up there myself, watching my colleagues rock out was hilarious. The event got rave reviews across the board and two weeks later, people are still talking about it. Pros: energetic host, diverse song choice Cons: limited drink menu more

Crappy Equipment - Worse Customer Service 11/26/2007

Went here for a 30th birthday party and had nothing but problems from the minute we walked in. We reserved the large room by the stage and after we got settled we tried to sing - but of the three microphones, 2 didn't work at all and the other kept cutting in and out plus if you moved the monitor in the middle of the room to choose a song it would lose power. Staff came in 3 times to fix it but never got it quite right and we were stuck with 1 barely working microphone and a monitor that we had to baby all night. Also the set up in this room is pretty bad because if you face the TV to read the words when you sing you have to have your back to the rest of the people in the room. Kinda hard to get in to it when you can't see anyone else. Pros: large song selection, lots of private rooms Cons: equipment didn't work, room set up is bad, drinks are watered down, management is bad more

turning 31 and rockin out at the lime 11/16/2007

I'm a pretty easy-going guy and have never wasted the energy writing an online review no matter how good or bad the experience. I'm taking an Oprah moment to share my story with the masses because the girlfriend was giving me sh-t about about what she read on here. Luckily I figured with all the awards and whatnot, this place was legit and we went ahead with plans to make complete fools of ourselves...which we most certainly did! We had a blast and didn't have any issues with the waitresses or emcee. Everyone seemed extremely friendly, which makes me think Susie Q might not have been on her best behavior. I mean if having young people and empty beer bottles scares you away from a nightspot, it's possible Boston is not the town for you. Perhaps I'm ignorant of the kareoke scene - admittedly I don't exactly make the rounds HOWEVER in our party of 20+ there were some ""experienced"" kareoke singers and I know the consensus was limelight is the biggest, hippest, most high tech kareoke set-up we'd seen. Pros: lots of 80s jams, lots of bachelorettes Cons: no beer on draft more
