Amazing 2/16/2009

I disagree with the "too laid back approach" comment from the previous reviewer. Keiji's approach is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I brought him my Corolla with +100,000 miles for a tune-up and gave him carte blanche. I know nothing about cars, so he could have told me anything. He apparently checked everything, because in addition to the obvious and expected (oil change, spark plugs, adjust rear brakes...) he fixed the gas cap, filled the spare tire and fixed my key (broken plastic top--filed smooth, drilled hole, added keychain) for just over $200 (no charge for the extras). It is more than worth the drive from my home in Lindenhurst to find someone so reliable, honest and thorough. I tried Keiji on the recommendation of my sister, who may replace her current Corolla with another Toyota not just because they make an outstanding car, but because she now knows a terrific mechanic who works solely on Toyotas. more

Keiji Knows Toyotas 8/5/2005

Drive into the back alley that leads to Keiji's auto repair garage and you will immediately notice the long row of old, older and oldest Toyotas sitting on the lawn next to his door. It looks a bit like a Toyota graveyard, except that yes, these cars all belong to customers of Keiji who, with his help, well, just can't let go. "I tell the customers "Buy a new car, but..?" Keiji shrugs. No reason to replace them when you have the Toyota pro on hand to keep them in tip top shape. Keiji is a solo operation, he works alone, seemingly only on Toyotas and other Japanese cars. His prices are reasonable and he seems to be pretty good at keeping all those old cars running. Sometimes I've been a little troubled by his perhaps too laid back approach (is there such a thing as a mechanic who wants to do too little to your car?), but overall, I don't think anybody knows Toyotas better. more
