One of my favorite clubs in San Diego 7/8/2010

If you are into that trendy club scene in San Diego I definitely recommend looking into Envy. Bottle service is great and if you can afford it, do it. You wont have to deal with all the headaches like lines and crowds. Having a place to sit is key anyway. Pros: Very classy, beautiful people Cons: Expensive more

Classy, Ladies night out spot 2/23/2010

Its worth a visit and if the DJ is spinning a good set the ladies will be out in force. Guys, open your wallet. Pros: Nice Design and DJ's Cons: Spendy more

Rude Service and Tacky Scene 8/3/2009

To begin, a friend and I went to the Ivy on a Saturday night. The bartender was incredibly rude to us, as if it were an inconvenience to pour us a drink. We ordered two glasses of Veuve Cliquot champagne for $20 each (the only option by the glass) which tasted like acidic grape fruit juice. The champagne had obviously been left open and/or exposed to temperature changes so I asked the bartender for a new drink (the cheap plastic glasses were also dirty with water stains). He told me that the champagne had not been exposed to temperature changes (as if he has been with the bottle from the time of distribution to the time it reached my glass) but he did agree to exchange the champagne for another drink. There is a serious lack of seating on the rooftop (unless you pay for a table) and the glass windows surrounding the perimeter of the deck are digustingly filthy. The bathroom design attempts to be modern and edgy by having one sink/wash area for both the men and the women, but it just doesn't work here. It gets overly crowded and I don't need to face a strange man while putting on lipstick in the bathroom. The crowd is an amateur one at best, with several bachelor/bachelorette parties, meat-headed "tough" guys, and trashy girls. I suppose the real issue I have with this place is that it tries to present itself as some classy, chic, and glamorous club, when in reality it is tasteless and tacky not to mention having a rude staff. Overall, the venue itself has the potential to be a great rooftop lounge, but the staff's lack of professionalism and the clientele's lack of style makes Eden an undesirable destination for those wanting a sophisticated, stylish, and fun evening out. Pros: Outdoors Cons: Staff, Drinks, Clientele, Lack of seating, Dirty more

Beautiful view, beautiful crowd 3/14/2009

Stayed at the Ivy for the w/e and checked out both Envy and Eden. DJ kept the beat going, great dancing girls on side stage next to DJ stage great to watch when you weren't dancing. Heaters in several spots for the chilly nights. Beautiful, fun-loving crowd and lots of crowd control to make sure things don't get too crazy. Very upscale. I'd go again! Pros: Hip, Trendy, Retro chic, Clean Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Never Again 2/19/2009

We went to the Ivy this past weekend and will never go again. The people at the door were rude and stuck up. we finally reached our party that had vip on the top and the waitress we had was horrible if you would ask for a drink from the bar she would give a attitude and would tell you it would be a long wait. If and when she would come back and serve from the bottle we had she made you so extremely uncomfortable with her attitude. We will never go back the security staff and hostess and basiclly the whole staff were extremely stuck up. They need to realize they are in the customer service industry and treat people kindly and respectfully. oh the only people we liked were the valet guys they were great!!! Pros: nice view Cons: there staff more

nice venue but be careful if you throw a party here 1/24/2009

Very trendy fashionable spot. Threw a party here and was very happy with the look and feel of the venue. Great potential. However we did feel ripped off. We paid a per hour / per person drink price. A waitress approached me and four guests when I arrived and we ordered drinks. We still did not have them over an hour later after we spoke with three other staff including a manager, bouncer and server. The manager was not apologetic and reminded me that we were paying by the hour, not the cocktail. That wasn't at all relevant at that point, I just wanted any drink, even a soda would have been nice. I was finally able to obtain my first drink an hour and twenty minutes into the party. This was a large party that filled the roof deck and it was embarrassing not to be able to get a drink. The bar was open for us but they made the drinks ridiculously slowly so a long line formed. It is definitely better to pay per drink here at this was obviously a tactic. As a host I needed to greet people and chat so it was impractical to stand in a long line or chase the staff for a drink as my own staff ultimately did. Pros: beautiful setting Cons: very poor service at a private party more

One of best view in SD 12/9/2008

Althoug expensive you know what you are getting into when you go to Envy. Great view!!! Great chic style with a little bit of Vegas and LA mixed in which can be good and bad depending on what kind of crowd you are expereincing on that particualar night. We wont point figures. Great taste, great style. All around highly recommended if you like to enjoy an upscale environment. Pros: great view/ good looking people for the most part Cons: $$$$ more

Elegant Night Club 10/7/2008

I have been to this club once and my friends and I had a good time specially because I met the oracle and he told me things I wanted to hear. LOL. Is a very classy elegant envirorment and not vulgar at all. Besides the security guard is my friend and he does not let wait in line. more

Wannabe L.A. crowd, Very Hot women Though! 9/9/2008

If you are looking to meet women they are hot but kinda snobby. This is San Diego's best version of a club in L.A. (I have actually had better time's on Sunset Blvd.) Pros: Hot Women Cons: Wannabe L.A. (attitudes) more

Great club 3/21/2008

I had a great time at Ivy. The music and general vibe of the club is really fun. The dancers here are WAY better than any of the other typical go-go dancers at the other clubs. They were very entertaining and I couldn't take my eyes off them!! If you're looking for a good time with friends, I recommend The Ivy. Pros: Great dancers Cons: Can get crowded more

Best night club in San Diego 3/21/2008

Most people only write reviews when they hate places. I on the other hand, love Envy night club. It is the only night club in San Diego that has a Vegas feel to it. It is actually something different from the other played out clubs in SD. The rooftop bar Eden is great because they never let it get too crowded. Music in every single area of the club is amazing. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a night of fun! Pros: Vegas-like feel, great music more

Overpriced and bad service 3/20/2008

I went out with a group of girlfriends one night, expecting to have a great time. We paid cover, ordered drinks (which, it was something like $17 for a martini!?!!) and were having a blast (music was awesome). The place gets crowded, and the clientele is questionable.. It took forever to get a drink at the bar and when we did, the bartender could not have been more rude. Disappointed for the price. more

Have a GREAT TIME anywhere else 3/19/2008

An upscale club should be like shopping at Coach. You don't see the bags on top of each other. They are spaced out so you can appreciate each one. ENVY is like the discount CD bin at Walmart. As an upscale club you charge more so that you may make you money and provide an atmosphere. The atmosphere here was that of crowds corralled by velvet ropes. And the VIP's corralled inside the ropes were trapped by walls of humans unknowingly walking through the velvet ropes. You need to cross 4 velvet ropes just to get into the club, 2 outside, 2 inside. Dear ENVY, Focus on what counts. Nice club. Treat it with the dignity the atmosphere you created deserves. You choose to focus on the profit associated with the legal capacity of the bar. toodles envy Pros: Same lame expensive beers and absolut everyone else serves, nothing new Cons: CROWDED, nice atmosphere if you can get past the crowd. good luck getting a drink more

Beautiful structures, lousy set-up 7/7/2007

Having to pay a $20 cover each on top of a $200 dinner is a little frustrating. But we did it to get the whole experience. The roof top bar is a great space with good music and accessible heat. The number of VIP areas is a little obnoxious. By midnight only 1 of the couch areas on the west side of the roof was being used. The lounge is beautiful. But the dancer set-up is horrific! Dancers can add a lot to the aesthetics of a club. They should be beautiful, pleasing to the eye and inspire the atmosphere. The dancers are more like circus freaks. The only inspiration they could provide was for eating disorders and Michael Jackson moves. We saw a girl on the roof who looked like an anorexic, epileptic belly dancer. And all three girls we watched in the lounge had horrible jerky moves and costume/hair malfunctions. The fact that they are so close to me and my drink made me weary of a health hazard. Having them dance on the table is an interesting concept, but they should be properly dressed for such a close encounter. Every single costume was misfit except the one on the epileptic belly dancer- from the sandals to the belts flipping around on the tops to the top bunching up under their breasts. The downstairs club was the worst of the environments. The dry ice gas coming down in front of the back stairs made me choke. It?s reminiscent of the old Bitter End that used that regularly through out the night to cool off the dungeon. What are they covering up? It?s not an ugly area, so why cause a dry throat and irritated eyes upon my entrance? The thought of spending a portion of our evening in a gas chamber was scary. The lighting is a disaster. Every single light on the ceiling is positioned to shine right in my eyes. I definitely get the feeling like you invested in the roof and first floor and then the basement was an afterthought. Get rid of the powdery clouds and fix the lights and it will be a great match in the trio of environments. more

  • In Short
Taking a page from the South Beach book of nightlife, whispy palms and sheer white fabric adorn the The Ivy's rooftop oasis. Aside from one of the better views of downtown--you can see all the way from Golden Hill around to the Harbor--Eden also boasts one of the largest rooftop decks. Beautiful people pick and choose mingling scenes from the cabanas by the pool, the center bar/lounge or a covered DJ-and-dancing area.
