Editorial review from Citysearch 10/15/2012

I have been a member of The Houstonian for 15 years. The key to Trellis is to find out who the good technicians are. If you get a really good one, there is no match in the city. Get a bad one, and you will be ripped off. It's that simple. I have friends who go (and don't ask me to tell them who is good) and they condemn the place and i don't blame them. Personally, i never get a massage there; there is much better elsewhere. The environment is great, relaxing, and peaceful, except when there is a group and they drink and it's like happy hour. If you go, chose the beginning of the week, in the morning for a quiet experience. Also, it totally annoys me when you call, and the operator asks, ""How may i book your appointment?"" That just doesn't make sense! Book it nicely? Quickly? ugh. more

Their regular massage was outstanding, their prenatal massage not so much and their pedicure was much to be desired. It's a very calming spa and I would definitely go back for their massage and perhaps try other services. more

Terrible experience 4/16/2010

I love going to the spa and I love trying new places. I was given a gift certificate to Trellis Spa in the Houstonian for my birthday so I decided to check it out. It was a terrible experience. While the front desk and concierge upstairs were both very nice, the aesthetician was abrubt, rude and condescending. There was nothing calming, nurturing or soothing about her personality at all. She performed the facial like she was washing dishes, very routine. At one point she was reading a magazine or doing paperwork as I could hear the pages being turned. Another time she left the room for an extended period of time. She did not do a head, neck or shoulder massage - standard fare for a facial in a nice spa. Pros: Beautiful spa, free valet Cons: Expensive, rude more

Sorry to see Service Declining 2/2/2010

I have been going to the Trellis since it was a little cottage house next to the hotel - when they opened the new facility (several years ago) I was so impressed and excited. It's a beautiful facility with sauna, whirlpool tub, pool, soft fluffy robes and all the little amentities. In the last year however I have seen it start to go downhill as they make obvious cutbacks. Previously they use to provide travel size shampoo, soap, etc. in the shower area - not they put everything into big dispensers -which I woud be okay with but the products were so watered down it was ridiculous - I couldn't get a lather from the shampoo or soap. 1/2 the time the shower's area's haven't been cleaned up from the last person - towls on the floors, etc. The service use to be impeccable but that has changed. If they are going to cut costs by cutting service then they need to adjust their pricing as well - a massage is $110 min. for 50 min. - that hasn't changed over the years but their service sure has! Kudos to Jennifer, Shon and Magda - the three quality massage therapists who have continue to provide a great massage. I wish they would go back to making the quality of the experience their focus instead of looking for ways to save penny's - they are going to push away their long standing customer base. I've talked to several friends who are no longer going because they have been disappointed the last few times and the competition has made their places more inviting. I hope the old Trellis that offered top notch service makes a come back. Pros: Beautiful Relaxing Atmosphere Cons: Service not living up to price more

Trellis Spa at the Houstonian is exquisite 10/8/2009

By far my favorite spa in Houston ... very relazing. I enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a nice hot neck wrap before my massage. They cucumber water is nice too. Enjoy the quiet room or sit in front of the fire place during the winter. Nothing but the best at the Trellis. more

Not what I expected 9/15/2009

The massage was OK, definetly not worth the money. The level of the service does not match the atmosphere. more

Trellis Spa at the Houstonian is super 8/19/2009

If you are gonna try this for the first time, go for the whole SPA treatment....the package deal is such a wonderful thing to do as a Birthday present for someone special. They will treat you like a rock star. more

Great Facial, Facilities 5/20/2009

I got the Active Pureness facial and really enjoyed it. The steam room and whirlpool bath are wonderful to enjoy before your appointment. My facialist Maria was very skilled- my face is so soft and clean. It wasn't the most relaxing facial I've ever had, but the results were there afterwards. Pros: Fabulous facilities, good cleansing facial Cons: Expensive more

Horrible Customer Service 1/25/2009

I am a member at the Houstonian and recently called to book treatments for myself and my husband. Two hours before the treatment time they called my husband and cancelled b/c the therapist had gone home sick. When I called to inquire in more detail they were rude and uninformed. They told me I was wrong and made me feel like an idiot. I love the Houstonian and until recently would've recommended Trellis to everyone. What a disappointment! more

Untrained Therapists 1/3/2009

The atmosphere of this place is wonderful. The lunch menu is limited and so was the experience of the therapist. For the price we pay for, I'd figure the massages was going to be at least decent. The deep tissue I asked for was not even close. I guess we're paying for the facility. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Untrained therapist more

Disappointed 1/3/2009

I've been going to this same spa because of the great ambience and location. However I've been hoping with my last 3 trips to have the same massage therapist, this Asian man. He was wonderful and knew exactly what I needed. We communicated well and he followed through. It was all down hill after that visit. My last 3 visits with different massage therapist was awful. They should invest in hiring trained therapist or hire back that Asian man. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service more

Nice place but poor service ... 5/27/2008

I do agree that the service is average comparable to the charge. The place is high maintenance & nice but the staffs are not very expertise in massage. Also, it seems to me that my serviced lady afraids of using all her ointment on me for the body mask, especially after I already have been charged of $130 for the the service itself. What's a rip off !!!!! Pros: beautiful designed place Cons: poor services & high prices more

GREAT AMBIENCE BUT, WEAK MASSAGE THERAPISTS 12/10/2007

I only come to Trellis because I feel like its a retreat from the city and I love the ambience however, every therapists at Trellis is subpar to average. If anyone out there has ever heard of a young Asian gentleman by the name of Viet Phan - I would highly recommend him. He is the best thing since Jesus Christ was on this planet. There is NOBODY else with his intuitiveness. The young man has X-ray vision, I swear! I used to return to him whenever I got tired of receiving my horrible ones from Trellis. Too bad he's no longer at the old salon otherwise I would tell Trellis' manager to hire him immediately. Pros: beautiful spa - the only thing worth mentioning Cons: poor unskilled therapists, overpriced more

i finally found a SPA!!!!! 5/28/2007

I just moved to Houston from Alaska of all places and am very new to the area....thankyou so much for the relaxing time! i finally found the perfect spa to go to now! the place is beautiful and serene. was just here and had to write a review! i have been looking for a spa all over the area and couldnt find the right one! thankyou Trellis! i will recommend you to all of my co-workers! Pros: worth every penny more

high priced service for experience comparable to other spas 4/11/2007

i enjoy getting massages regularly, so i try to go to different spas.......trellis is certainly in a removed and remote location, which makes it feel like a real escape.....it's huge and offers a plethora of services....i only went for a massage, which i thought to be overpriced at $100 for your standard 50 minutes, where you can get the same service at a lot of other local spas for $70-$85......so i suppose my expectation of quality went up, seeing as to how i was paying a higher price....but only to find that the service was about the same as any other spa.....i also did not care for the huge open ""co-ed"" area they had for you to wait before/after your spa service....for some this might be okay, but i personally prefer more private and enclosed areas.....staff was very friendly and professional though, i left my jewelry in the massage room and they immediately had it sent to the front desk, so that it would be there upon my checkout...very helpful....overally experience was okay, except i thought it was a little overpriced for what they offer... Pros: customer service, remote location Cons: open wait area, lack of privacy, not completely quiet more
