I attended an event presented by Diva's World Entertainment on Sunday 4/17/11 in Zilkha Hall. First, there was no mention that there was a reception before attending a BRUNCH which meant that guests were kept waiting for more than an hour before being allowed into the hall. There was no seating to accommodate those who had no idea they would be standing for that length of time and the lobby has poor air circulation for a crowd. When we entered the hall, we were escorrted onto the stage where the brunch, entertainment and guests were all contained. The buffet was haulted another 10 minutes because the Chef was still preparing the eggs benedict so until that was completed, we had to continue to wait. The area where the food presentation took place was poorly lit but when we saw the buffet, we knew why - the cesar salad was drenched with dressing - to the point of being limp. The fruits were the traditional selections (pineapple, cantelope, berries), pre-packaged salmon was displayed with a few topping selections, there were unidentified foods in warmers and a carving station. The first time around, we completely missed the desserts as they were in the corner almost behind the curtain! BTW, the desserts were better than the main fair. Coffee cups were PASSED OUT to the guests but at no point did any server bring us coffee - at no point during the actual brunch were Mimosa's served (only during the reception). I picked up several sugar packets to sweeten my tea only to find them ALL dirty and clearly pre-used (dropped in something wet so the contents were stuck together) which was creepy when you consider you're already eating in the dark! And, to top it all off, during an excellent solo by Bobby Lyle, you can hear the kitchen staff stacking the dishes! Shame on you Hobby Center - Diva's World deserved better!
