Just reading the reviews of others who were unlucky enough to waste their time there and am shocked by the similarities in my experience. I sat at the bar with my friend and watched a female bartender threaten and ""warn"" two customers within the span of 30 minutes for doing nothing wrong. Then me and my friend are dancing with some girls and i go to buy us all a round and she tells me they are cut off and does not give a valid reason. Long story short the staff there are rude and terrible people. And they are thieves as well: they padded my tab by about twice what we drank. NEVER VISIT THIS PUB! more

We stopped by Hennessey's on November 21, 2009 during a bachelorette party for a very dear friend. All ten of us were let in and they only charged 8 of us a cover fee. The atmosphere was bland but the band was really good! It probably would have been a decent experience and we probably would have spent more money on drinks but we had a run in with the ""manager"". Our bride needed a little air and was getting a little closterphobic and who wouldn't with all of the people and loud music. She and one of the people in our group went outside to get some air. One of them had some water and gave it to her but they fumbled when passing the drink and it fell. So when they tried to go back inside they let the other member of our group go in but not our bride. Both had about equal drinks and neither of them were drunk but they wouldn't let her back in no matter how much we pleaded. All ten of us ended up leaving after only 20 minutes in the bar to make things worse they didn't give us back our cover and they were incredibly rude. They upset our bride and thoroughly ticked us off. Don't go there unless you like being jerked around by management! The crowd was AWFUL! We were with guests from out of town and decided to stop in for a few drinks, after standing in the SAME spot for a few hours and just having a good time, out of NO where, one of the members of our group gets pushed and punched...out of NO WHERE! I get screamed out by some trashy looking girl, all haggered and run down, for I guess just standing there and pushed to the ground and get my jacket stolen. They kick the member of our group out and when I tell them who pushed me down, they let her stay, I guess they like the trashy crowd....and while they give me my $10 back for coming (which is OBSCENE for a stupid bar) they don't do anything about my coat or the fact that this girl put her hands on me and I didn't touch her or do anything. I just don't get it. I'm getting ready to call the police and file a report on the bar and if I knew the girls name I would make sure she was arrested as well! If you like your pint of Guinness - avoid this place at all costs. I don't see how this place got voted best Irish pub in Boston if they can't even pour a decent pint. First of all it was in a regular (American) pint glass, which means you get short served. Secondly, it tasted like muck - couldn't even finish it. I was even more surprised when it was the Irish (also a Dub I believe) bartender that gave me this. Save your money and head a couple of doors down to Blackstone's - much better! Pros: It looks good. Hello, I usually do not do this but I had one of the most terrible experience at this bar. A bunch of us went out bar hoping on Saturday night and ended up at Hennssey's around 10 oclock. After waiting in line we got in. The bouncers were very rude and looked over my id and my gf id a couple of times (both valid Ma Ids). Once inside, I went to the bar to get a couple of drinks, which took me at least 15 mins to get. After we got our drinks we had to wait to go up staris for 15 to 20 mins as I watch others just walk upstairs. Finally we went upstair and there was so terrible cover band playing, no coat room for my gfs bag. We ended up leaving because everyone was rude and what not. As we got back to my apt (12:30ish) my gf was missing her purse. We proceeded to call the bar and no one would pick up. Finally serveral tries later I got a bartender which hung up on me. A couple moer tries I got a another bar tender, I asked her to get a pen and go into a back room so I can hear her and she can her me. She hung up. This happened 5 or 6 more times. Finally I got a manager his name is Mick. This guy was the most rude manager I have ever dealt with. I explained the situation to him that either she lost the wallet there or it was stolen. I also explained my disappointment in the customer service I recieved, left my number and name to call me if the wallet was found. I then received a call back later. Mick said they found the wallet and that I was a piece of Sh*t. We making a long story short, I will not support a bar who staff is rude and will tell everyone I know not to support this bar. This is a great place to go in downtown that's a guaranteed good time. I have gone here many a Saturday night and always had a good time. They usually have live bands on the weekend that play great music you can dance to. Defnitely get there on the early side because the lines at the door can get pretty long. The drinks are priced pretty well for downtown and the faneuil hall area especially. They often have beer specials too so be sure to ask the bartender. All in all I've always had a great time here for special occasions as well as just a fun night out. Pros: Great Live music, decent food, great drink prices Cons: Long lines at the door more

i went to hennessy's for my 21st birthday and had a blast rocking out to with my friends and the live coverband. i excitedly revisited this bar for my sister's bachelorette party this past december (07) and there was- AGAIN- an amazing coverband. both times these different bands played songs from different time eras and different genres which made it awesome! i love this place and recommend it to all my friends who go to boston for nightlife. i really have no complaints. but yes, this bar does not tolerate drunk people. they will kick you out or refuse entrance for people they feel are in a drunken state, so be warned! Cover charge was way too much since they closed early for some reason! They should have warned us that they were closing at midnight! Place was empty yet they made people wait for an hour or so! Workers were unfriendly! There was suppose to be a DJ and a Band! The band played the whole night and they were awful! Overall I don't recommend going here at all. Just my opinion! more

As a grad student, I don't have the time or energy to go out and party like in my undergrad days, so when I do, I have found that, of all the pubs and clubs in the Boston area, Hennessey's is the one place I can depend on for a good time. The music is a fun mix of hits from the 80's, 90's, and now, and they frequently host one of Boston's many cover bands (my favorite is Swerve) so once the place starts to really fill up after 10pm, there is some good dancing among a mellow crowd of twenty- to thirty-somethings. I've never left this place without meeting some interesting people and heading over with the group to their nearby North End apartment for an after-party or to Cafe Pompeii for some late night eats. Don't read those other reviews. They were all written in 2003 and Club Q has new management, staff and an amazing DJ! If you love to dance this is the best place to go for hip hop, reggeton (however it's spelled) and even a little techno/house. I love the variety of music they play. The bartenders are all quick and very cute...guys and girls. And I love dancing on the platforms cause you have more room up there. And the back where the pool tables are is great for resting your feet and cooling off (body heat). I think it's Boston's best kept secret and it's a shame it doesn't get more promoting. i went in thinking the music would be great, decor, etc. the decor was good, new modern feel and look. but the drinks were awful. drinking there was almost like drinking at mohegan sun (watered-down), but i had to pay $6 a drink for crap. second, the music was actually cheesy techno. i like techno music, trance, etc., but this was crap. like remized versions of gloria estefan and the like. awful place. i will never go there again., more

This place left much to be desired. Seemed to be a fun atmosphere, great decor. This website bosts about their cosmos and I paid eight dollars for the worst cosmo I have ever had. My friend and I just saw this spot and decided to go in on a whim. We didn't have to wait long for drinks, the music was good, overall the place was a nice new edition to the Boston nightlife. We'll be back. :) more
