Long Time Patron 3/9/2014

Been going to Gareeb Nwawaz since they first opened. Small and dirty place; before they took over the the neighboring site even. The big dude sitting at the counter barking orders. Now for two decades plus I have made it a point to go there, every time driving through or to Chicago. Their briyani is simply the best; though a few times it has been inconsistent. I never try anything else; perhaps to my fault. I usually eat in and then do a huge take out for home. Their eat in is better than take out; they seem to reduce the meat gravy part and load up on rice on take out. In fact, I hope to talk to that young chap (son?) about that the next time I am there in person. more

Did you know about this one 5/27/2006

1)It's late at night 2)You are really hungry 3)You are short on cash If these three things have ever happened to you, you should keep Ghareeb Nawas in mind. At this place you will seriously get a huge and really delicious meal for just a couple of dollars. Their meals are so big that two people can comfortably share one and probably still have left overs. They serve Pakistani and Indian food. Did I mention it's very inexpensive too? The restaurant is nothing special and could actually use some cleaning up or renovating. So just stop in, pick up, and go. I gaurantee you that the food will be fresh, hot, and plentiful more

Cheap Biryani 4/3/2006

If you are looking for a great meal on a budget then Ghareeb Nawaz is the perfect place. They have a really nice plate of chicken biryani and it is around 4 bucks. Be warned for this price you have to sacrifice things like atmosphere. I would never eat inside and typically this is a taxi driver hangout. It also isnt the cleaniest but you can learn to overlook those things when the food is so good. more

Cheap tasty indo-pak foods 3/18/2006

Ghareeb Nawaz is a place for cheap eats. I've been there pretty late, so I assume its open late. For a couple bucks you get a lot of food. That is how its supposed to be. Food everywhere at restaurants, grocery is supposed to be cheap. At least that is my ideal. The place itself though can be dirty, and can be a shock to your senses if you have never been in an environment like this. If you have traveled the world though you have seen different cultures etc. That is the old way though, there is no excuse for uncleanliness nowadays. A trip here will be a unique experience in your consciousness. more

Low Charge 3/5/2006

This is another Pakistan irestaurant in the area. The food here is not as great as the one you will find at Sabri Nehari, but it is good for the price they charge you. They give you a big plateful of food here at a very low charge. The food always tastes like it has been made freshly just for your order. This is also a great place to pick up some student biryani, which is low cost biryani that tastes great and is very plentiful. It makes a great meal for a student (i suppose that is why it is named student biryani. more

Indian/Pakistani Food 3/1/2006

If you are in the mood for Indian or Pakistani food then this is a great option. It is set a bit farther from the whole Indian restaurant area, but the food here is just as great. They serve immense portions here for such low prices that it is unbelievable. Try their chicken biryani here; its only like three dollars, but the serving is big enough for like then people! The food is always fresh here and though this place is always crowded with people, service is fast. This is one casual sort of Indian/Pakistani food place that is a must try. more

Tasty, cheap food 8/11/2005

If you are in the mood for some tasty Pakistani/Indian dishes, then check out Ghareeb Nawaz. They are located on Devon but are a few blocks away from the more crowded Devon area of Pakistani & Indian stores. There are plenty of items to choose from on the menu but I would recommend the chicken biryani most of all. It is a huge serving of basmati rice and chicken for like only three bucks. You may also want to try their prathas - round, flat bread fried in butter with a dish of your choice. Whatever you decide on, make your order to go because this is not a place you want to hang out at. more

Yummy food...but bad surrounding 8/5/2005

This restaurant is on Devon Ave., but not with all of the other Indian restaurants. The food is GREAT and the prices are better. For under 3 dollars you can get a full Indian lunch or dinner (depending on how much you eat). The only bad part is that it is not a place you want to take a date. It's more of a taxi driver hangout. But the food is so good. more

Yum Yum 7/26/2005

This is a very low priced restraunt to eat at. Their food is pretty good and their portions are huge. They have a very extensive menu, with lots of yummy items to try. I would recommend not dining in though, their restraunt is not all that well kept. And at lunch and dinner times, esepcially on the weekends, it gets very crowded and seating can be hard to find. Don't miss out on this great eat, esepcially if you are a fan of spicy food! more
