My family and I stumbled onto Gennaro

Had an amazing dinner here a few weeks ago. I started with the lobster ravioli which was unbelievable and a seriously generous portion. It came as a bed of raviolis piled with lobster tails, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, etc. So delicious. The desserts were out of this world. We ordered 4 and shared them all. All 4 were incredible, although the bread pudding and the gelato dessert were standouts for my taste. If the food wasn't enough the waiter could not have been more professional. His recommendations were useful, and in my opinion, the service is what makes the meal. Would recommend to anyone heading to eat in the area! more

My family and I stumbled onto Gennaro more

Feb. 12, 2011, dinning at Gennaro's, Boston's North End 2/12/2011

My wife and I dined at Gennaro's last night. For the money it was a good choice. Our entrees were good. I got the Jumbo Spinach/cheese ravioli my wife got the Rolled Stuffed Eggplant. What was disappointing was the $10 Cesar Salad that was mostly white salad with few greens ( I should have sent it back). We got a glass of Merlot, the glass was barely half full and the wine was pretty tasteless. Whenever possible my wife and I will split an appetizer and wine (here we saved $18 by sharing a salad and a glass of wine that weren't very good). The staff were very friendly, the location in North Square was nice. We had an early sitting, 6PM, the place was quite and we were also able to get a window seat. more

Window with a view 4/9/2010

We had our second great visit to Gennaro's 5 North Square. We ended up downstirs which is very nice but upstairs is more romantic if that's what you're looking for. The window booths if you can get one are awesome! We were spoiled on our first visit. more

A great, new find in the North End 2/19/2010

We stumbled upon this great restaurant on a historic corner in the North End. Four of us had lunch and each meal was perfect. We all sampled each other's: spaghetti and meatballs, margherita pizza, pannini, and chicken w/broccoli and pasta...all delicious. We will definintely go back and sit by the window...each table has a window with a view. Pros: beautiful upstairs and down; cozy yet spacious more

All I CAN SAY IS WOW!!! BEST IN THE NORTH END 2/8/2010

I recently attended WITH best friends. There was ten of us and let me tell you it was first class dining all the way!! The wait staff was amazing recommending a reasonable priced wine that was delicious, the antipasto and dinner specials were out of this world. Every one of us ordered something different off the menu and no one was disappointed. The gravy was fantastic. Although onre of my friends been there before and recomended the STUFED SOLE I don?t think you can go wrong with any dish. I will definitely be back again. A hat off to Gennaro's?? more

Owner Message
  • Marisa Iocco, Boston's only Italian-born female chef, salutes Italian-American food at Gennaro's 5 North Square Restaurant in the North End with a menu she calls MangiAmerica ( "Eat, America" ).

MangiAmerica celebrates the dishes that are the mainstays of the Italian-American table. Marisa pays homage to the soulful hominess and evocative flavors of italian-American cooking.

Because this is food that so often conjures up memories of personalities and places now departed, she has recreated these dishes as scrupulously- and reverentially- as possible. Sunday gravy is simmered for hours and ladled over house-made fresh macaroni. The mozzarella is produced locally. The fish is hand selected daily from the fishmonger. Some dishes are only available family-style-deliberately intended to be shared with and enjoyed by loved ones. (857) 250-0756
