Like a Second Home to my kids! 3/21/2012

Being in retail it is hard to find a center open with the hours that are required for my work. I love the face that From Roots to wings is open?s early at 6am and closes at 1am. My children have been attending From Roots to Wings since 2009. I have always disliked Childcare centers due to my past experiences. However after the first few weeks my children attending they were crying to go to the center. The Toddler Classes are very good at Potty training. My youngest, starting at the age of one year, was out of diapers in no time. He is now in the preschool class and he loves his teachers, and so do I. They work with the preschoolers on preparing for Kindergarten. The preschool classes also get to explore the neighborhood. They go on outings to the park across the street and they go down to the library. My favorite thing about all the teachers is that they use every opportunity as a learning experience. Even in play I see the teachers utilizing every moment to teach my child. My older child, now in the school age class room, love?s the summer program that the center offers. They go on field trips almost every day; including keeping up on their academics by going to the Library. During the school year my oldest doesn?t spend as much time at the center, however We all love the fact that he has help with his home work after school and he almost always come home with his homework completed, giving us more time to spend together. The center is like a second home to my children. They love it so much some days it is hard to get them to leave. As a parent that has made me feel good about leaving them there. I know they are in good hands. more

Excellent Learning Center! Highly Recommend! 3/15/2012

From Roots to Wings has been a HUGE part of not only My children's lives, but my Friends and Family members as well! Serving children ages 12months- 12 years old, my oldest who is now in the 2nd grade, has grown and developed here since he was a toddler. I am proud to say that my son was able to be a part of the Preschool Program here and was reading simple books BEFORE he even started Kindergarten! The communication from the Teachers & Office Staff has always been to my liking. When My son was in Preschool, I recieved weekly reports letting me know what he had been working on that week, his favorite meals, and a personalized note at the bottom from his teacher. Like the last review had mentioned, there were often new faces but I was ALWAYS greeted and introduced to ANY new staff that were around my children. They even include new staff members AND children in their monthly newsletters. more

I agree with the first post that this center is VERY disorganized. They have no way of introducing new teachers to the parents or students even if just on a bulletin board. You walk in and there is a new person watching your child. You never hear why the previous teachers are no long with them. My child has gone there for over a year and this month was the first time I received a food calendar from them. Also, when I pick my child up it looks like he has been taking care of himself all day. His clothes are dirty and there is snot on his nose. I am looking for a new daycare because this one doesn't seem to fit my child. One day he was hurt and no one could explain why and no one seemed willing to try to follow up with me to find out what had happened. There is no communication between the teachers who I drop him off with and the teachers who are there when I pick him up! The owners seem very nice but some of the office staff can be very rude. Everything seems dirty like they don't scrub anything very well. They make everyone sign in and out your child two different ways and if you forget they will charge you for it. They seem very organized when it comes to collecting money but don't seem very organized when enforcing their own policies and procedures with their staff! I had to tell a teacher she needed to stop a child when I went in to pick up my son. The child had hurt 4 kids in the 10 mins I was there and the teacher never made a move to stop it until I said something. The little girl was biting, hitting and pulling hair. There is no excuse for that many children to have been hurt when it should have been stopped the first time. I was told when he started that I would get daily reports on how his day went. The reports came sporadically and were often just a piece of paper photocopied for every child in that class. It is hard to have faith in a child care system that can't even spell things correctly on their own website. Also, note some of the those pictures on there aren't even of their own facility. I would NOT recommend this day care center for anyone. The only reason I choose it to begin with was due to the cameras they have but that doesn't make up for everything else that has happened there. more

Caring & creative childcare 9/8/2011

From roots to wings came recommended to me by a friend, who's child had gone there many years ago. I chose this facility to care for the most precious thing in my life.....my child. He has been cared for by the staff at roots for over 2 years now. I have watched him grow and thrive in their care! He is mainly there for the after school program, but spent last summer with them full time. Their summer program is fantastic, with a field trip every other day, and swimming at the local pool on tuesdays. They also keep the kids school ready by having thursdays as their acedemics day. I have felt that the owners really care for the children, as they communicate with me on a regular basis (and not just when my son has done something wrong!) They make it a point to emphasize the positive behavior as well, which I like. I feel like this is a facility that has heart, and an understanding for children's needs. I also like that their is a strong, positive, male influence to guide the boys in the right direction. They keep the kids entertained with games, crafts, and outdoor activities. It is multicultural as well, and hosted a multicultural day (on a saturday), where the parents could come and see how the children had decorated the daycare for different cultures around the world. they had the children put on a presentation about what they had learned, as well as had a ton of fantastic foods from around the world. All I can say is that none of the other childcare facilities my son has attended has ever made it so that working parent could attend a function to see what their child has been learning. So to sum it up, I like the facility and the staff. It may not be the fanciest place, but it has a warm, home like feeling, more
