Great Hair by Jeffrey 10/21/2007

I went to Emerge the day after a terrible experience at another salon.....my hair was orange with a million other colors mixed into it. I went in as Jefferys last appointment and he spent a long time fixing my hair color, he stayed past the time they closed to make sure that I could walk around in public again and the color came out great. He was really nice and I immediately felt as though I was in good hands, I will definitly be seeing him again. The salon and spa areas were beautiful, I highly reccommend coming here, especially for hair. Pros: Great Stylist, Beautiful Salon more

Cold in every way, even in the heat of August!!! 8/22/2007

I had such high hopes when I made my appointment at Emerge Spa for a body treatment during my stay in Boston to look at colleges with my teenage son. What a complete let-down this place was. It was one of those places that looks pretty when you walk in, but the good feeling completely fades as you are given little in the way of friendly service. The reception was as cold as can be. No actual welcome. No "we're glad you're here"....no pleasantries at all. Just a stony escort up to another floor where the women's locker room is located, cursory instructions on where stuff was and then a departure. Plus, did i say COLD? The locker room was too cold for comfortably changing clothes, the amenities were sorely lacking -- there was no face cleanser, no makeup remover, no facial lotion but the towels were neatly rolled and stacked. That meant you could feel free to take a shower, but your mascara would be smeared down your face and then your face would feel tight and dry because ther more

Only 1 front desk employee was polite !!! 7/29/2007

Friday the 13th around 6:00 in the evening I came into Emerge for some info about the services they offer. I stood at the desk for at least 10 min and all the girls behing the desk were just standing around, no one asked if I needed any help. I looked around at the products and then asked for some info about services. I was handed a brochure and that was all. I was looking through it when a young lady who worked there came from upstairs and came right over to ask if I needed help with anything. She was SO POLITE & PROFESSIONAL, she introduced herself to me (her name was Christine) and proceeded to explain the different services and asked what I was interested in having done. She even gave me a wonderful tour! This young lady was very helpful & even took the time to explain the product lines to me. OF ALL THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE DESK CHRISTINE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO HELP ME!!! I did overhear one of the other girls speak very rudely to a client so I recommend when you go to Emerge ask for Christine to help book your appointments! more

The worst customer service 7/14/2007

If you can get past the horrible front desk, you might have a good experience. Twice in two visits they have made errors in my appointment time. Once they had made it for three hours later than I asked and once they made it for a completely different day. I know it could not have been me since I asked "is there anything available today?" They said yes, come in, and then the desk said my appointment was for two weeks from today. In addition, the desk people seem to have no service training. I have to be in suits all week and like to dress down on my days off. If I do this there, they certainly treat me differently! Very Snobby! Lastly, for the first time in my life, I had my eyelids burned during a eyebrow wax! I had to go to a wedding shower the next day looking like I was punched in both eyes! It took three weeks for them to rebate my credit card. And in all fairness, they did send me a gift card for $50 to try them again. It is not worth the prices that seem to be climbing each month! Pros: Stylists are great! Cons: Front desk is the worst! more

Great Color by Lina, Wonderful Customer Service Overall 5/18/2007

Emerge deserves its reputation! The receptionists are friendly and polite, and very helpful with booking services. They'll give you the inside scoop on the strengths of each stylist, and are frank about prices and services. No pretense here, just incredible customer service. Pros: low pressure, great value, fantastic customer service, skilled stylists Cons: bathroom in the nail area has an awkward sliding door - use the one upstairs in the salon! more

Emerge deserves its reputation! The receptionists are friendly and polite, and very helpful with booking services. They'll give you the inside scoop on the strengths of each stylist, and are frank about prices and services. No pretense here, just incredible customer service. Linda did an amazing job on my color. I'm a brunette, and came in with a brassy, old highlight job that washed me out. I also had an old "razor cut" that made the ends of my hair look "fried". Linda hand-mixed four different "cool browns", and only charged me for one process (a mere $65!). I couldn't believe how fantastic I looked. She also does a great texturizing cut, sans razor, for $75, which gave my fine hair a new life without the damage. Linda also suggested several Kerastase treatments to help my hair, and was extremely low pressure about adding services or selling products. I said "yes" to a Kerastase strengthening treatment forf $35 (half off with a color service). While at Emerge, I also opted for a brow maintenance by Rebecca. The 2nd Floor waiting area has a complimentary spa with coffee, tea, fruit and rice cracker munchies. There is also a sauna, steam and locker room for use by any of the guests, with complimentary use of some great skin and body products (good way to try before you buy!). The waiting area was clean, elegant and quiet, and even getting a $25 brow service was an experience. Speaking of the brow service, Rebecca is very skilled and friendly. She will keep you talking and relaxed while taming even the most unruly brows! I will definitely book with her again. Finally, at the end of my experience, I received a $25 gift certificate for my next service, just for being a first-time customer. I have been to almost every salon on Newbury, and Emerge is the best yet. I recommend it on the highest terms possible. Pros: low pressure, great value, fantastic customer service, skilled stylists Cons: bathroom in the nail area has an awkward sliding door - use the one upstairs in the salon! more

Robert is an expert at color and cut 5/8/2007

I whole heartedly recommend Robert. I have long thick blonde hair. I am extremely picky about my hair and have had very bad experiences in the past (aka big chunks of hair falling out due to over processing!!) I came to Robert with double processed blonde and was hesitant to change because I liked being a light blonde. He gave me what I wanted and was extremely capable when I wanted a change (as well as calm and reassuring when I was frantic and nervous in the beginning). He turned my double process into beautiful high and low lights when other stylists said there was no hope for me to ever get away from the double process. I have recommended 4 friends to him (all with different color and style hair) and they have all loved him. I TRUST HIM. He has never pushed me to do anything in 4 years, but has great solutions when I want to change. Also, if you want waxing....go to Alla. Wonderful woman who knows what she's doing and gets it done fast. I cant speak for the salon, but I trust Robert and Alla. Once you are a client, get the stylists cell #'s so that if the front dest cant book the appointment for you, most times, the stylist will fit you in. more

Receptionist Snobby, but excellent hairstylist, but costly 1/12/2007

My daughter received a gift certificate. I accompanied her and asked the male receptionist if he could recommend a good pizza shop around the area. He replied, the pizza shops around here are more geared for the Newbury Street clientele, you would want the Mass Ave shops, the more fast food, greasy pizzas. I know I didn't appear to be rich, as I am down to earth. The service my daughter received was exceptional however, her hair was beautiful, cost 130.00 with tip 160. Little did he know, I have enough money to buy his store. Pros: Excellent Color Cons: Snobby male receptionist, not a welcoming feeling, need to walk in with Mink Coat on to be accepted there, kinda feeling from receptionist. more

Rip off artists 12/9/2006

Stay away. They really pressure you into buying stuff you don't want. Really expensive stuff. When I didn't buy it, they just charged my card anyway. I have been fighting to get a refund. Plus they are super expensive. It was like $145 for a facial and wasn't even that good. Awful experience. more

Great service, but lousy experience 12/5/2006

I purchased a facial for my girlfriend and really wanted to get her something nice. Emerge was everything it promised, sort of. The facial was for an hour and a half and she had a wonderful experience. I must admit, she looked fantastic afterwards. That is the good part. The facial cost $150. But, that really wasn't the bad part. I was told how much it cost on the phone and I was comfortable spending that amount. When my girlfriend was done with her facial she was really pressured into buying some very expensive product. She felt uncomfortable, but said she would consider it. She never once signed anything nor took the products, but my card was charged an additional $144. So, now I have a $294 facial. Additionally, my girlfriend had a new Channel Sunglasses stolen out of her locker (she may or may not have locked it, I don't blame Emerge directly for this). The sunglasses cost $350. Now the facial is up to $644. It was really great facial...I called Emerge and I am waiting for them to contact me to refund my additional $144 in purchases. I have already stopped by once and was told that no one there could help me and that a manager would call me. No one has called. I just called again and was assured that someone would call me. I am still waiting. I highly recommend this spa if you are really wealthy. Pros: Quality job Cons: Hidden costs more
