What was great- Prime Rib and raw oysters. What was so bad it was inedible- crab legs and mussells. Just Ok- Sushi- had a stale taste to it. Pros: Live Music Cons: Food

Don't Bother, they have given up! 7/19/2009

Dont bother to try Ellyngtons! In what I can only imagine is some idiots idea of saving money, Ellyngtonsgot ris od their chef of 4 years and hired a kid to try and fill his shoes. I have been eating at that restaurant for the last 6 years, usually 4x per week. The food went from ok to seriously amazing when he came on. I would contemplate my lunch with great excitement each day as I would prepare to walk over. The specials were usually my choice as they were always without disappointment. The last few weeks I have not had ONE good lunch, not one. At first I thought the chef had to be on vacation but when I asked about him last Thursday, I found out he was the victim or budget cuts!!!! Unbelievable! He was the best thing going at the Brown Palace (if you have tried any of their other restaurants you will know what I mean) Their loss for sure! If anyone hears where he has gone, his name is Chef Curtis Lincoln please post it or email me. He has a pretty strong following within my firm alone, I have heard other guests asking about him so it is well worth the post. Elways is a little farther for me but at least I know the food will be good. Ellyngtons has become mediocre at best, but even that is a gamble. Pros: location downtown Cons: lost their chef, food is awful more

Very Disappointing/Sunday Brunch 5/10/2009

We made a reservation on Mother's Day at Ellyngton's. When I called to confirm I was told it was a champagne brunch with their normal Sunday brunch. I have been to the ""normal"" Sunday brunch before and it is very special. What the person neglected to mention is that the brunch didn't start until after our reservation time. The food that was served is better done by IHOP; waffles were soggy, sausages were cold and 3 dishes have no serving utensils! Pros: Service was fine Cons: Mislead to believe brunch was being served more

What an amazing place! 8/28/2008

I have been in Denver all week for the DNC and we are staying at the Brown Palace Hotel and eating some of our meals here as well. I must tell you that this restaurant, in particular (Ellyngton's) is THE place to be! I have seen all the major players here at one time or another (BiLL & Hillary included).More importantly I have to say that this is the best food I have eaten anywhere in Denver (Maybe ever!). I saw the chef yesterday conversing with the table next to me, a great looking guy without the usual ""chefly""attitude. My Food was perfect , I ordered the chef's breakfast special that he was calling the Hunter S Thompson special, it included a Salmon cigarette which was actually a salmon & cream cheese crepe, Hash and huckleberry Pancakes...what a riot! Everyone at my table was so pleased not only with the food but the overall atmosphere here, really good vibes! Some of the hotels other restaurants are stodgy and the food doesnt compare. I'm not sure if it's the same chef or not but he does a great job here . If you are looking for a place to dine for breakfast or lunch while in Denver you won't want to miss Ellyington's. Oh yeah and order the special, whatever that may be, you are guaranteed to come away satisfied and wanting more! I can't wait to see what's on the lunch menu today or who may be in the room (rumor's about Oprah are circulating!) Pros: The food ( I had the Hunter S Thompson special for breakfast, what a treat) Cons: They aren't open for dinner more

Wow...Nicely done chef! 11/5/2007

Nice... a week eating all over Denver (yeah, it's my job) and this Lunch spot was the best food I have had in Denver in Years! Real nice combinations, delicate preperations and seasonal ingredients. Obviously this chef has some experience under his or her belt. I can't say that for all of the Brown Palace restaurants but it certainly applies here. Kudos. The food here couldnt be improved upon. more

Ellyngton's Chef knows how to treat a guest 5/2/2007

I have been staying at the Brown for business for the last year or so and and usually eat here as well. It is close to our corporate office but until this week I have found it to have mediocre service...Until this week. I have some food allergies and was having a hard time getting anyone to listen to me. Then the chef of Ellyngton's stepped in, Curtis Lincoln. This guy left the building to seek out the items I could enbibe, cooked it up and served it to me in a way that Jean Louis would be proud. The rest of the staff at the Brown Palace could take a lesson from this guy. Thank you Chef.... you are the man! Pros: The chef Cons: support staff more

Best lunch on the planet! 3/25/2007

ELLYNGTON'S WOW!!! 3/20/2007

Ellyngton's keeps getting better and better. I went in for a breakfast meeting last week and I was blown away. First they start you out with a ""breakfast amuse"", a taste from the chef, we had a tropical smoothie and it was very refreshing. Next I ordered the Greek Frittata and I have to say the flavors were nothing short of amazing. They use local feta cheese, caramelized onions and potatoes. It was so good I made reservation for the Sunday Brunch that weekend. Bar none the best brunch in town, so many options to choose from and the room looked great. It was a St. Patrick's Day theme so there was plenty of corned beef & cabbage to go around, not to mention fresh sushi, which I found out they made in house that morning and finally the very impressive dessert display with everything from Chocolate Shots to Bannanas Fosters and individual Creme Brulees. The service was excellent both times, I highly recommend Ellyngton's...give it I try, I guarantee you'll be back for more. Pros: The food & the service. more

Me too! 6/27/2006

I just read a review for my favorite lunch spot, Ellyngtons. I did not realize they had a new chef but I assumed something was up because the food has gotten real good. I've spent the last 17 years eating lunch in downtown Denver and find Ellyngtons to be very convienent and as of late very, very good and the food is interesting. I have also tried the tuna melt and it is awesome but my partner had the halibut with corn pudding yesterday and I swear I almost ordered a second lunch. If you havent tried this place for lunch, you are seriously missing out. Kudos to the chef, you have a real good thing going on there. My only criticism would be the decor, it defintaly needs an update, but the food is so good it doesnt steer me or anyone in our law firm away. Keep up the good work. more

You boys might be ruining a good thing. 6/27/2006

My company's corporate home base is in Denver but I reside in Texas and I literally spend weeks living at the Brown. I was blown away by breakfast initially because every time I dined the chef would send me a little something each morning, a sort of appetizer, if there is such a thing in the morning. I was thinking I was pretty special but later realized he did it for everybody. I like that place because they are prompt with the service and I can ride straight down from my room and have a quick breakfast and relax. I never wait and the staff is pretty good about keeping on top of things. The food is nicely prepared and they tend to be real relaxed about making things the way I prefer. I also find myself here at lunch time, same crowd working but even better food. I was reading through places to eat downtown and saw that Ellyngtons was rated and reviewed and read JayG's comments so for lunch I tried a fish. It was a white bass of some kind and man it was good. I dont know if we should be giving away such a well kept secret but I do like to give credit where credit is due. This fella is doin a real good thing for the Brown, we need some of that kind of lovin' down here in Texas. Pros: Great food and service more

They got a new chef and it appears he knows what is going on in the Culinary World..Highly reccomend for both lunch and breakfast 6/25/2006

So I have been going to the BP for years as I work downtown, I usually take clients for a quick lunch at Ellyngtons or The Tavern and it was always good. The food at Ellyngtons has progressively gotten better over the last few months and I have began to pay attention. I had an incredible fish dish last week and then last Friday I came to the conclusion that I had never tasted anything so wonderful and had to know what was going on in that kitchen. Turns out they hired this new chef of world class reputation, he has worked at top restaurants all over the country. He has just made my # 1 list for places to dine downtown, or anywhere in Denver...I had a tuna melt that was seriously the best thing I have ever eaten. The very educated and amazingly proficient waiter explained that the chef poaches fresh tuna in olive oil... Have you ever heard of that?? I reccomend it highly and think if you havent tried Ellyngtons for lunch, you are absolutely missing out. I hope the BP can hold on to this guy, they have a seriously good thing in him. Pros: food, service, food Cons: it is downtown more

Probably the finest place in Denver 3/28/2006

The best dining experience I've ever had was at Ellyngton's. We were seated promptly by the nicest little man, and then greeted by our server with enthusiasum. Not ""I'm going to make money"" enthusiasum, but genuine. He gracefully explained the specials (which sold me!) and had our orders out to us in a timely manner. Never did we have to ask for more beverages or anything at all. He offered beautiful tray of desserts at the end. They were on top of it. I loved it and will be back many, many times. Pros: Waitstaff, food, ambiance more

I was disappointed 8/14/2005

We had a party of ten for lunch. Bothe of the Kobe burgers that were ordered were overcooked, one person sent it back. The burgers sort or resembled hockey pucks when they first arrived. the burger that was sent back took about 20-25 minutes to come back. The other person had to go to a meeting and ate hers very well done, muh to her disappointment. Maybe we came on a bad day? more

Valentine's fiasco 2/17/2004

Party of 8 of us went to Ellyngton's for Valentine's dinner. The the waiter took almost 40 minutes to take our drink order. He forgot my husbands drink and tended to leave us hanging for most of our simple requests. For the ""Best Hotel in Denver"" the Brown Palace and it's eating establishments should be held to a higher standard. It is sad to say they no longer deserve the praise heaped upon them. When we turned in our evaluation cards the people at the front desk seemed bored/uninterested in reading them. The manager did apologize so that helped somewhat...Too bad we won't get our money back. I truely cannot believe how bad it was. I will NEVER waste my time or money at Ellyngton's again. Pros: Ambience more
