Great Tapas 9/7/2010

After coming back from Spain, I wanted to indulge in some of the same food. Lucky for me I found De Tapas. The food is great, and made just like they make in Spain. However, it is a bit expensive. more

Is Gone!! 6/25/2010

Just found out our beloved De Tapas has closed after 12 years. Wednesday it ended. Apparently a Bar B Q place will be the new tenant. Like those aren't a dime a dozen. Where to go now for great Spanish Tapas? Cafe Madrid? Jaleo in Richardson? It is a sad, sad day. Pros: Was fabulous for 12 years Cons: It's Gone more

Great experience 5/23/2010

I took my husband there for his birthday since we couldnt find a place to eat after 10 pm on saturday, it was our first time there and we really enjoyed, the food, the wine, the music and the way they made feel my husband that night was very unique, I will come again, in fact tonite we are going to see the Flamenco show, I cant wait. more

Poor Service 5/10/2010

Went to celebrate Mother''s Day and we were excited about the Flamenco Dancers and the fact that it is a family oriented place. However, the service was poor to say the least. Our reserved table was not held and we have to wait for other people to finish. The food, well the run down is the following: Pros: Family oriented Cons: poor service more

The Most Authentic Spanish/Tapas Restaurant in all of Dallas 4/8/2010

My husband is from Spain and I was looking for an authentic Spanish restaurant to celebrate his birthday. I have tried almost all of the tapas restaurants in Dallas and have been very dissapointed with the food. Someone told me about this restaurant in Addison that also has flamenco shows and I thought it would be fun. We went on a Sunday with some friends and had a marvelous time! The waiter was very attentive and did not make me feel rushed (like other restaurants I have been to), the flamenco show was fun, and I can honestly say that the food was just like the tapas in Spain...Best tortilla espanola (potato omelette) in Dallas, great calamares (crispy), and the paella was yummy (with lots of seafood and chicken)...authentic and delicious!!!!!!!! I don't understand all the other reviews that say the food and service is bad (maybe they went on a bad day). I really thought it was great! We felt like we were back in Spain. The owners are actually from Spain and my husband enjoyed talking to one of them about futbol (soccer). And why do people complain about the parking? Have they tried parking uptown? It's imposible! At least De Tapas offers valet parking. We have been back on other days and the service and food has been just as great. We love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: excellent food, entertaining show, and great service Cons: The bar next door plays very loud music! more

Poor Service 3/6/2010

Went on a Saturday night with a party of eight. Had been there two times in the past and was impressed by the atmosphere but all good things must come to an end. Besides being stingy with the water and bread our waiter was for the most part unresponsive. Here's a tally of what went wrong: Initial party of two arrived at 7:40 for an 8 pm reservation. They were seated but never aknowledged by the waitstaff. We arrive at 7:55. By 8:20 pm not a single waiter came to our table. I finally had to stand up and grab one literally. He quickly took our drink orders and came back with them in about five minutes. Twenty minutes later, we had to flag him down again to take our tapas orders. A meager basket of mediocre bread was then brought by the busboy with no accompaniments. Amazingly 10 minutes after that the tapas were brought out all at once. Must've been on a good streak to get food out that quick or so you would think. Perhaps they were just reheated. Alas credit must be given for the food. The calamari was average and the spanish omelette was good as usual. The garlic shrimp was salty and was overcooked with a sodium tripolyphosphate taste -- must've been straight out of the bag. The marinated artichokes were excellent as was the pan tomate. Overall the other food was good but uninspired. Here's where the service ended. Empty plates were never cleared and drink refills were as rare as foie gras is in prison. The check had to be begged for and the payment was untouchable by the waitstaff like Ebola. Perhaps they were embarrassed to take money which they did not earn. Another waiter finally took pity on our young lady with the credit card. I'm sure her arm must've been numb by then. One comes to the realization that there is a stink in this restaurant. Not of the usual bathroom smells mind you but in their service. Complimentary antacid pills should've taken place of the cheap mints beside the door walking out. Pros: Decent Food, Lively Atmosphere Cons: Poor Service more

Great Tapas Experience 8/3/2009

We did the entire tapas experience. The Sangria was strong. Every thing we ordered was tasty. While the individual items are very reasonable, they add up very quickly. Pros: Great Music and nice server Cons: Adds up quickly more

Great sangria & classical guitar 7/17/2009

The gutarist was unbelievably talented and seemed to know every obscure request we could throw out at him. Went with 4 people and he provided the ideal background music while we talked and got ""snockered"" on the Sangria pitchers. Hope to get back soon as I know my wife would love it !! Pros: great atmosphere, nice staff and delicious Sangria Cons: parking is ""challenging"" more

Paella? 11/8/2008

The sangria was nice and refreshing, the garlic shrimp is tasty but ... small, the fried calamares was ok, and finally the $23.99 Paella, I don't know how to put it nicely, but any $7.99 Chinese fried rice tastes better it. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Paella more

Good food overall...most of the time 3/8/2008

I've been to De Tapas many times mostly because I like the sangria so much. I've ordered the Paella Valencia several times, and I've had good and not-so-good experiences, depending on who's in the kitchen. Sometimes the rice is very nice and crisp at the bottom and the meat is seasoned just right, and other times the rice is too wet and does not even taste like paella was cooked in the pan that it was served in. The paella seems to be better during lunch, probably because it's not as crowded and they have more time to properly prepare it. Pros: Out of all the different sangrias from different restaurants, they have the best sangria!!! Cons: Paella is not consistently good. more

Average cuisine, nice atmosphere. 2/4/2007

I have been to quite a few tapas restaurants and I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the tapas were just average. As far as the flan, it was one of the worst I have tasted. On the other hand, their sangria was excellent as well as the overall atmosphere. It's a casual place and they did have live music when we went. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Below average food more

Great Food with Great friends 1/1/2007

What an experience! First ever for Tapas and this place was NOT a disappointment. more

I bought a dress and went back! 11/27/2006

This place was soo much fun on a Friday night with the dancing and atmosphere that I bought a 'Spanish' like dress and went back the next night to dance again and dine! You could be in Spain once the doors close. If you are in a hurry to grab a bite and eat then go elsewhere and grab a bite to eat ( I was shocked by the other reviews on ?slow? service, My attraction to the place has always been because of excellent service that is NOT rushed! Too many places grab and go these days) ! This is SPAIN in Dallas at it's best, food, fun and the pleasure of enjoying life and a evening out. Put life in perspective and live a little... go to De Tapas :) Pros: Valet parking Cons: people that complain about the parking but are too cheap to valet more

Good service, good food 11/18/2006

Went there a week ago for uncle's birthday. It was a wonderful experience. The food was great, the waiter was knowledgeable, and the live music was definitely a plus for the special occasion. more

Come for the music. Enjoy the tapas and great atmosphere. 11/13/2006

Food comes in small portions that we americans are not used to. If you want to save on your bill, eat some heavy snacks ahead of time. The bill can really add up if you come to de Tapas hungry. True to spanish tradition, there is lots of fish on the menu. The Spanish tortilla is really good and cheap if you are looking for something to fill up on. Pros: Lots of great music. Each night is different. Call and ask about it. Cons: Small plates are small - and expensive - if you are going to order enough for a meal. more

Take your tapas elsewhere... 11/12/2006

My visit to De Tapas was extremely disappointing. The food was bland and the service was pretty awful as well, especially considering that on the Thursday night my girlfriends and I went there were only two other parties in the entire place. They did have a nice little stage area that I am sure would have been neat had a band been playing, so that might be cool to check out, but don't save your appetite...there are much better tapas places in Dallas that don't require thirty minutes of searching for a parking place (in the busy shopping center). Pros: Sangria, intimate setting Cons: Parking, food, service more

Go NOW!!!!!!!!!! Dancing! GREAT Tapas! Awesome patio!!!!! 10/10/2006

Ok, ok, so I LOVE Tapas! So. I went to De Tapas! Wow! My first impression while being greeted at the door was great! A nice man from Spain sat us with a warm welcome ( nice!) The waiter was efficient and friendly, made a few suggestions and allowed us to have our free glass of sangria just by mentioning Citysearch. The lamb tapa was YUMMYYYYYY! The Paella was NOT icky like the guy below described, as a matter of fact, I liked it! Annnndddd I had the roasted garlic spread and the plate of cheese, Pincho Moruno(Marinated beef skewer), Anchovies stuffed olives, and bread with tomato spread. Yummmmyyyyy! (I am a light eater tho, you really have a lot to choose from) Then the live music stared, upbeat with percussion you can shake your booty to! I attempted salsa dancing while my friends laughed and ate. LOTS of fun! GREAT patio!!!!! An overall a 10! Dont miss out on this place! Its the liveliest, family oriented, date night, romantic all in one tapa restaurant !!!!! What are you waiting for? Pros: music! Patio!! Food! GREAT for a large party!!!! Cons: addison parking, but you can valet :) more

stick to the tapas 5/21/2005

hurried service, reheated stale entree [ "" the Paella""]. the tapas dishes were average. loud music/ lively atmosphere cannot compensate for food.......... more
