For birthday's at my company, we always order cakes from the Kroger that's by Rosa Parks, and I can not recall one time that we have picked up a cake that we ordered that was correct. So frustrated, looking for somewhere to order a cake for my manager, I got on Google and found Darlene's Kakes. She has been totally great with us!! We have called last minute to order a cake, and being we put her in a last minute situation, we requested the flavors(which she has a large variety of unlike most cake bakeries I have come across), and told her to work her magic, and that is just what she did. Her cakes are so moist....I don't know how to describe her and her cakes except for excellent!! I saw a review on here that kind of bothered me. You can tell that this woman takes pride in her work and is very courteous. You could come to my office and ask anyone, she makes ""THE BEST CAKES"", and they deliver!!! You can not beat that! Thank you for your excellent work Mrs. Darlene, and you will be hearing from us next month for our birthday cake!! more

This bakery has it all! There are so many flavors and combinations to choose from and the cakes are unbelievably delicious! I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter attending school in Nashville, and it was PERFECT! It was delivered on time, was so beautiful she sent me a picture, and she told me how absolutely delicious it tasted! This is my go-to bakery every time! more

Our office manager insists on ordering birthday cakes for the staff from Darlene's even though no one likes them. The cake itself is mediocre, being dry, not flavorful at all and very bland. The only choices seem to be yellow or chocolate, but they taste exactly the same. The chocolate doesn't even have any chocolate flavor. The worst part though is the icing which, in a word, is disgusting. It's that nasty kind of thick, cloying, pasty icing that is made from Crisco and sugar and it tastes dreadful. They pile ten tons of it on the cake and it's just gross. The cakes aren't professionally decorated either, just some crappy icing balloons and very average lettering. It is pretty ridiculous to charge their sky high prices for a cake that is pretty much a step down from a Wal-mart cake, and Wal-mart cakes are pretty gross too. You'd be far, far better off making a cake from scratch, or even a mix. If you don't have the time, the HG Hill grocery store downtown makes DELICIOUS cakes that are far more reasonably priced. I can't recommend Darlene's at all. I don't know how they stay in business. Anyone could make a better cake and decorate it better too. more

We ordered a cake a week or so in advance. We were told we could pick it up anytime after 9am. When we got there the cake was not ready so they gave us some money off the cake. Pros: Cake tasted good Cons: It was finished late, broke down the middle, and was sloppy. more

I LOVE Darlenes cakes !! I am out of state and had NO idea where to order a cake for an event I was hosting in Nashville..was recommended to Darlenes , ordered everything by phone. They were awesome, got everything right, delivered cake to location on time for FREE, and I got MANY compliments on the cake !! more

This bakery is a family tradition. For many years I have given Darlene's a picture of my child's favorite character to replicate on a birthday cake. Our family can't wait to drive to Darlene's before the party to see the end result and it is always above and beyond what we expected. Not only are the cakes beautiful, they are delicious. I order cakes large enough to serve the children and their parents and can count on compliments. This is evidenced by the fact that I just ordered a birthday cake for my father's 70th birthday and am transporting it from Tennessee to Alabama rather than ordering from a local bakery in their hometown. more

Jeff designed/decorated the most beautiful cake I could have hoped for. It was not only beautiful, but tasted amazing as well. The groom's cake was also perfect! I would very highly recommend this cake shop to anyone interested in a great tasting, attractive wedding cake. We have also had cakes from here for birthdays and have never been disappointed. I recently got married on August 30, 2008. During the wedding planning I searched and searched for the perfect Bakery to get my wedding cake from. Darlene's Kakes was it and I mean they were perfect. The price was reasonable $2.50 per person VS. the average $4.00 for a not so tasty cake. The wedding cake was chocolate raspberry with buttercream icing, VERY YUMMY. I had so many people asking about where we got the cake saying it was the best they had ever had. The decoration was next to perfect. I brought in a picture and they were so easy to work with. The cake looked just like the picture. The grooms cake was a Georgia Bulldog shape that looked awesome. It was strawberry with cream cheese icing. We LOVED it! One of the best cakes we've ever tasted. I would definitely recommend Darlene's Kakes to anyone. The price, taste, appearance, and customer service was a 10! Pros: Price, Taste, Customer Service 10 Cons: Parking is a bit tricky but they will come out to your car to deliver. Not very attractive inside more

this place is wonderful. i ordered a cake, on the day before i needed it, which i thought might be a problem, but not for these guys.. they were wonderful. they were extremely considerate, they helped me figure out exactly what i wanted. the cake was delivered to my school, on the day of my birthday. it had all my friends names on it, and balloons, and conffetti. it came with a huge bunch of balloons that complimented the cake colors perfectly. the cake was light and moist, yet the the icing was thick and rich. it was just a wonderful expirience. i would most definately continue to use them for all my cake needs. i just glad they they are so accomidating, and friendly people.!!!!!! My manager specifically requested a light and fluffy Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese Icing for her birthday. I contacted Darlene's Bakery and a gentleman answered, I specifically requested Red Velvet cake and before I could say ""with Cream Cheese Icing"" he said it for me. At that point I was confident that the cake would be prepared pearfectly to our specifications. We booked a conference room at work to hold the birthday celebration but after tasting the cake we realized that the cake was not fluffy and light and the frosting was super sweet and bright white unlike cream cheese icing that should have had an off white color with. We were all disappointed and in a workplace where cakes usually disappear this one just lingered. I contacted Darlene requesting some satisfaction and all she would say was that she specifically remembers making the cake correctly with Cream Cheese icing, and that I should have called her back immediately so that she could have made a new cake right away. Then she said that she could not give a refund and that she was very sorry. So is she saying that we should stop the celebration and pack up the cake to return it to her and postpone my managers celebration so that she can prepare a new cake. I think not!!! In the future we will travel a few extra miles and get a good cake from a local grocer or a shopping club. We will never go back to Darlene's Kakes! She is rude and not customer friendly. Service is poor at best and the decorations are inferior to my 7 year olds art work. The owner was not as sorry as I was. I was recommended Darlenes by a friend of mine who orders the petit fours at every occasion that she can. I called and had them make about 20 for a lingerie party I was hosting and asked them to put some cute panties/bras on the cakes. Well, they did exactly what I asked, but the ""art"" was a little sloppy along with the icing of the cakes. I think I could have done a better job, but they are HUGE, taste awesome, and not expensive at all. I would recommend them just because you can't beat the way they taste. Darlene's makes the best tasting cakes and frosting around, and a fresh, traditional bakery is a rare find in downtown Nashville. The decoration on the cake is not great, a little amateurish. Don't count on on-time delivery. If, like me, you were ordering for a crowd at the office, tell them the meeting is at least an hour and a half before it actually takes place. Don't be scared off by the appearance of the shop; it's untidy but clean. When HG Hill opens their new urban grocery in the Viridian later this year, competition may improve things here. All in all, it's a little rough around the edges, but the taste makes it worth the hassles. I'm from Wisconsin planning a trip to Nashville, sisters birthday, I want to surprise her with a cake. The hotel recommended Darlene's Kakes. Called, spoke with a man who said they could deliver, a $5.00 charge, no problem. call back no answered, left a message no one ever called me back, so I call again. I spoke to a sweet woman who seemed clueless. She told they could deliver my cake then got confused when I was asking about cake decorations, but we managed. I told her on the Web it says something about a box party with balloons, she was confused went to go get someone else. Comes back, they can no longer deliver for me! What?! I'm from out of state want to do business and you treat me this way. I would never call this place again or recommend it. more

I had the good fortune of dealing directly with Darlene this past week and was very, very impressed. She went above and beyond the usual level of customer service and was incredibly helpful in getting a special delivery cake done on very short notice. The recipient said the cake was one of the best she'd tasted in a long time and I was blown away with the willingness of this business to put customer service at the top of its priorities. I would highly recommend giving Darlene's Kakes a try. more

I had a cake from Darlene's at an office function. The icing was cream cheese with chocolate cake...it was SOOOO GOOOD!!!! I CRAVE THESE CAKES NOW! I can't wait to get one for my daughter's birthday! Pros: Delicious Cons: A little hard to find more

We picked up our son's 1st birthday cake, and after paying 50+ dollars we were very disappointed in the outcome of the cake.....splotchy icing, cracks all over cake. When my husband returned to have it ""repaired"" Darlene was NASTY to him. She refused to fix or give a refund. She even told my husband that SHE was the customer, he was not?? She told her manager he would have to pay us out of his own pocket if we were to get a refund. She had 2 other customers in line who cancelled their orders after watching how this business owner dealt with customers. Also, we had the ""smash"" cake in the car, so we got to taste it, NOT GOOD.
