Excellent 10/29/2010

The food was delightful and creative, with complex tastes and artistic presentations. The octopus appetizer -- which they thoughtfully split for us -- was perfectly cooked and paired (with sauces and tasty nibbles and such). Both of our entrees and a cheese plate were two thumbs up. The ambience was surprisingly wonderful at the kitchen view ""bar"" -- we were initially apprehensive about sitting there, but it was very nice being able to watch the dishes be created, and the ""bar"" is removed just enough to not feel exposed, and it was still perfect for an intimate dinner for two. It appeared that the cook who made each dish was the one that brought it to the table and explained what was in it, how it was made, etc., as each dish was delivered by a different (very knowledgeable) person, though we still had our server, who was perfectly attentive. We can't wait to go back! more

Disappointing food 8/10/2010

Disappointing food, we had the hand-made pasta with lobster and bacon, and guess what? All you could taste was the bacon. The delicate lobster (which was hard to find a piece of) was totally overpowered. Then I had the halibut, which was overcooked the top was seared so much it became a crisp cake-like topping, the fish was totally dry. The portions were pretentiously small and overpriced it, reminded me of Citrus in LA in the late eighties, dishes with fewer vegetables than you would dare to serve to a five year old. Decor is subjective, but for me the Stars Wars themed oversized white plastic chairs and tables, against the beautiful historic features of this house just did not jive, lacking neither artistry nor character.\r Call me old fashioned but at these prices please give me a white tablecloth! Not your romantic or impressive dining situation. The service was excellent; the white wine we ordered hadn’t been chilled so we were brought a glass of French sparkling wine, compliments of the house, which was very good. It helped a little to get over the awful atmosphere in the dining room, no ambiance whatsoever, walls begging for some art work and some interesting lighting. We were ready to leave, and I visited the ladies room only to spot a lovely outside dining area! No one had offered us this option, not when I made the reservation or upon arriving, if I could at least have sat outside I might not be writing this. I expressed my frustration about the outdoor dining option and they were full of apologies and insisted we give them our email address, and they did of course already have my phone number from the booking. But that was weeks ago, and we have heard nothing, which would be fine if expectation had not been set. At the end of the day I felt like we had paid big bucks to sit in a sort of quasi trendy university-district-type eating establishment, but without the charm. So sad to say, we won’t go back. \r more

Don't Believe The Reviews - Crush is terrible and overpriced 8/4/2010

I ate at crush last night, and it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. For the price of the meal, it was not the level of quality it should have been. 24 dollars for mediocre beef ribs, and 24 dollars for a small portion of what should be cheap seafood. The staff was friendly, but the service was poor. The gratuity for our group was automatically 20%, which was not deserved. We also requested a bottle of wine from the menu, which they did not have, and they replaced it with a screw-top bottle that was low quality for a high price. Overall, it felt like a nothing more than a rip-off, and I left very unsatisfied after spending over $800 with a group of only 7 people. If they are going to charge as much as they do, I expect much more. I have never written a negative review for a restaurant before, but I certainly do not recommend crush to anybody. more

Tasty Tasty! 5/14/2010

The dinner last evening at Crush was sublime! From the first bite of the gougere to the last bite of dessert, everything was a flavor sensation. The cocktails were dangerously tasty, the plating was attractive, the starters and entrees were varied and interesting and the flavor combinations were absolutely delectable.\r \r The wine list is quite extensive with many good choices; I only wish they would add prosecco to it!\r \r Thursday evening business was steady without being crushingly busy, and the servers were attentive and knowledgeable. A wonderful experience all around! Pros: Great Flavors and Creative Menu Cons: PARKING!! more

Terrific Food and Service 4/7/2010

This was our fist visit to Crush. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation, but were warmly received and immediately seated. The servers patiently waited the 30 minutes it took for our fourth dinner parter to arrive, checking on us periodically but being neither overbearing or absent. Pros: Delicious and complex food, very knowledgable waitstaff more

Excellent dining experience 3/1/2010

Our server was very knowledgeable about the food ingredients and wine selections. The Douglas fir sorbet was amazing! a must! Pros: Delectable meal and outstanding service more

Amazing food, decent ambiance 9/13/2009

In terms of top notch Seattle restaurants, Crush is one of the finest. Crush has a very inspired and memorable menu, diverse cuisines, superb service, and a great wine list. At the same time, its modish seats are not perfectly comfortable and the location doesn't offer the most phenomenal view. Great place for a special date but not the best location / ambiance for a *real* special date (aka Anniversaries, Valentine's, etc.) Pros: Creative menu, great service, delicious Cons: Seating / view is slightly uncomfortable distracting more

great handmade pasta 6/20/2009

We were here for dinner last month and the food was great for the most part. My seabass was on the salty side. The best dish was the pasta (very small portion-3 bites), hand made and delightful touch with the caviar. The samples that were brought out were nice. Staff could work on being more classy (hostess had extremely low-breast out summer dress) for this high end dining experience. Pros: creative combination of courses, beautiful arrangement Cons: overpriced more

Lukewarm Overpriced Mediocrity 6/15/2009

It seems that when a restaurant has a mandatory 20% gratuity for a party of 5 or more and you have 5 or more people in your party you are asking for trouble. Pros: The place is cute and we had some good cocktails, lovely amu Cons: Very high wine markup and corkage, overpriced, not that good more

Very Pleasing in every way 2/18/2009

My wife of 20+ years and I had a wonderful time here. From the friendly service and good wine list to the superb food and pleasing presentation. We could have been in Paris. Pros: Intimate dining Cons: Not a place to bring young ones more

Simply the best 2/15/2009

The minute we walked in the door, we were treated like honored guests. We even created our own tasting menu and the waiter checked with us before pairing an ""expensive"" wine with one of our courses. The food is simply the best in Seattle. And when we got the bill, we were surprised at how reasonable it all was. There is simply not a better restaurant in Seattle. Pros: perfect food, warm and friendly service, incredible ambiance more

Heavenly, but don't come hungry 1/29/2009

January 29, 2009 - The atmosphere and food are absolutely outstanding, however, the portions are (insultingly) small. Order the Lamb and you'll find three pieces the size of your pinky, along with sausage the size of the tip of our pinky?all for a mere $36.00. Unless something changes I don't think we will be back. Pros: excellent food and atmosphere Cons: very small portions more

Best restaurant in Seattle 1/4/2009

I had always heard that getting into Crush could be quite a difficult task, but much to my surprise I called on a Friday afternoon and was able to get a party of 6 in that same evening with no problems whatsoever. The host said he could definitely fit us in and we had a beautiful table overlooking the open kitchen. We opted for the chef's tasting menu and boy am I glad we did. We were continuously amazed with 9 courses of the most beautiful and exquisite food I have ever seen. We started with what our server called ""Bacon & Eggs(!)"" which was a parsnip flan with salmon caviar, bacon & black pepper creme fraiche, and a maple syrup that had been aged in bourbon barrels! Oh my goodness! It was to die for. We also had a beautiful Japanese hamachi crudo with pickled carrot & ginger and spiced Asian pear. Soooo good. Even the bread was amazing, made in house and topped with black Alaskan sea salt. Other highlights included the sturgeon which was sourced fresh directly from the Quinault Indian tribe right here in Washington, amazing foie gras with quince, endive, and cinnamon brioche, and of course those legendary short ribs that Chef Jason Wilson has become known for, which are cooked sous vide for 24 hours. No detail was left out during the course of our dinner. Our server was really seemed to enjoy talking about all the amazing food. Cocktails were delicious as well, I really liked the Northwest Sidecar which was had a Douglas Fir syrup that we were told was made with fir needles from the back yard of the house. Our server also brought us out an extra dessert and a plate of hand made chocolates. All in all a very memorable night, best dinner I have had in ages and well worth the money. Highly recommended. Pros: Food, Service, Decor Cons: none that I can think of more

Close your eyes and savor the flavor! 10/9/2008

This was a special romantic evening that was perfect in every way! We were greeted warmly at the door and seated quickly. The service was impeccable! The decor is modern as is the food (it's New American). The dark wood floor and off white furniture and white orchids serve as the backdrop and canvas so that all you see (focus on) is the food. Pleasing music plays in the background, but softly enough that when we cut into the sweetbreads, all we heard was ""crunch"" . We started with the Foie steak (absolutely amazing) and the sweetbreads, moved on to the lamb (lovely) and braised short rib (a MUST). Even if you don't save room for dessert, it is worth forcing yourself to experience it. We had the peach ""pie"" which was more like a cake but had the best damn peaches and crust I've ever had. Not your traditional dessert, but oh so much better! I would skip the chocolates as they sound better than they actually tasted, and we just did not like the bacon chocolate at all. Open your mind and mouth to experience all CRUSH has to offer and you will enjoy a meal you will never forget! Pros: service, experience, incredible food, impressive wine list Cons: extremely hard to find parking more

Great food, so-so service 6/30/2008

We went to Crush on a Sunday night with friends. It was a group of four adults and one child. I must say that the juxtaposition between the traditional vibe of the house and the very very modern vibe of the furnishings still has me wondering. Not sure about the white, plastic chairs and white formica tables. A bit cold. That being said the food is very good. We started off with the sweetbread app. They are wrapped in chicken skin and fried. Not for the calorie adverse but they were delish. The two sauces complemented the sweetbreads very well. We also tried the fresh asperagus soup topped with a poached egg. The soup was vibrant and extremely fresh. A definite A+ at our table. For entrees two of us had the black cod with minted peas. The cod was cooked perfectly with a nice salty crust and the peas tasted like they were picked and shelled just before cooking. Yummy! My husband had the lamb dish and I have to say, it was very tender and not to lamb-y. Our other friend had the famous short ribs that she said were very tender and flavorful. We all thought that the portion size was just right, nobody left hungry for sure. For desert we tried the panacotta crumble and the bacon ice cream/cake/cookie. The panacotta was heavenly, it literally floated in you mouth and it was not too sweet, but just enough to take the edge off the rhubarb crumble. None of us got excited about the bacon dessert though. It's just strange and I would defintely not order it again. In terms of service our main waiter must have had an off night because every time he poured a glass of wine he would splash some on the table. Luckily it didn't get on anyone. Either he was going to fast or was inexperienced at pouring. The assistant server was pretty good, but would sneak up behind people to pour water and I saw many people ""jump"", not just our table. Overall we all thought it was very good and will come back for more. Pros: food, accomodating to kids Cons: tough parking, a little cold more
