Your Pet's Health, Your Own Health... 11/11/2010

We have been seeing Dr. Jordan and Dr. Caldwell for the past six years. When we found Dr. Jordan, we had a German Shepherd and two Domestic Shorthaired cats in our family. We had just moved to N.C. a year before, and month after moving our German Shepherd became extremely ill. After spending over $6,000 in less than a year at another well respected vet in the area, on tests, medications which were extremely expensive, and getting what I feel was a less than thorough diagnosis we found Dr. Jordan. I became extremely ill a month after my dog, and finally was diagnosed with tick borne illness. We had lived in New England before we moved and despite this, our previous vet could not wrap her mind around the thought that maybe our GShep was suffering from tick borne illness too. I was sent to the vet school where I spent over $700 in testing and it was still negative. Not only that I had her on a medication that is extremely expensive and extremely effective at suppressing the immune system which was the worst thing our dog could have been prescribed we would soon find out. Flash forward found Dr. Jordan went through much less expensive testing and it turned out it was tick borne illness, as well, our girl also was suffering from severe food allergies. Dr. Jordan addressed the allergies, treated the tick borne illness and with in two weeks of treatment and new food she was like a new dog and survived to a ripe old age of 14 years old, which is a ripe old age for a German Shepherd these days. On the wall of Dr. Jordan's office she has framed the oath one must take to become a veterinarian. One of the agreements as a veterinarian is that you agree to protect public health in addition to animal's health. There are many zoonotic diseases and parasites which can affect animals and people. Dr. Jordan is very aware of public health and how it can be impacted by animal health. Dr. Jordan has volunteered a huge amount of time to public health issues. While many have commented that her rates are high, I don't believe they are any higher than many other vets in this area and others. I have lived Maryland, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Her fees are comparable to most metropolitan veterinarians. She has never pushed treatments, tests, or surgeries on us. She has always taken her time with us at appointments, explained our different options, and has always been supportive when we have faced the day when our babies have reached the end of their lives. She has always been respectful of us and our babies. She does not sugar coat anything, and I find this comforting. I cannot stand being led down a garden path. She is clear, has sound boundaries, and is dedicated. She does have a strong nature and I think this serves her well in the realm of veterinarian medicine. If you have boundary issues, need to have your a(* kissed, or are extremely wishy washy you may not like her communication style. Dr. Caldwell is wonderful too and extremely compassionate. We trust her knowledge and care as well. The staff has always been responsive, caring, and efficient in our experience. We have boarded our pets as well, and they always come home happy and healthy. A relationship with a healthcare provider to yourself or your pets is a very personal one. If you are looking for a highly skilled, compassionate, concise, and intuitive veterinarian practice, look no further than Duraleigh-Oak Park Veterinarian Practice. more

Long Time Customer 4/2/2009

I have been going to Duraleigh-Oak Park Vet Hospital before it was even Duraleigh-Oak Park Vet Hospital. I met Dr. Jordan in 1992 when I took my first cat to her. She now takes care of my 6 cats (all rescues) and 1 doggie – Bugsy.\r \r I have had many vet appointments over the years for many different things. Routine visits and the visit you never want to make – having to have your 15 year old cat in kidney failure put to sleep. No matter what I’m going in for, I always know that I will get the absolute, top notch care possible. Dr. Jordan and her staff are always happy to assist you with questions, products and anything else you may need.\r \r I have read some of the reviews regarding the price. And, yes, I do agree that it can be expensive. But, I tell myself, “You get what you pay for”. Then to me, that makes each trip a bargain!!\r \r My dog was recently diagnosed with Kidney failure. I was heartbroken, but Dr. Jordan put together a regime of medicines and fluid treatments for my dog and within a month, he is a different dog. I can tell that he feels 100% better, has gained weight, is eating better and actually will run around the yard now like a puppy! It brings tears to my eyes to see my dog, who is now 12, feeling so young!\r \r Dr. Jordan, along with her staff, truly cares about you and your animals. She never sugar coats anything….which I don’t mind at all. If you can’t handle the truth, then find another vet! But, if you want to give your animal the best care possible, then make an appointment!\r \r Highly recommended.\r Pros: Experienced, professional, straight shooter, cares Cons: price may be an issue with some people more

The Best Vet You'll Ever Find 2/10/2009

I've been going to Dr. Jordan and the staff of Duraleigh Oak Park Vet for almost 12 years, and here's why: When one of my dogs was 11 months old, he was run over by a car and suffered severe injuries to one of his front legs. I believe that Dr. Jordan, through her incredible care and veterinary ""smarts"" saved his leg and helped him to fully recover. It was a traumatic experience for me and my puppy, but luckily we were in the hands of a wonderful team of people who knew, without hesitation, what needed to be done. Over the years, I've relied on that same team of people for advice, knowledge, and compassion for both of ""my boys,"" and I've never been disappointed. Now my two terriers are seniors receiving the same excellent care they have their entire lives. Looking for a vet? In my opinion, there's no doubt that Duraleigh is the best you will ever find. Pros: kind, knowledgeable, open Saturdays, clean, e-mail reminders, online pharmacy more

The Best Care for You and Your Pet! 2/1/2009

We've been with Dr. Jordan for 15 years and love the care we recieved for our ""girls"". Dr. Jordan, Dr. Caldwell, and all the staff make extra efforts to make sure your animal family members get the highest level of care. I always felt very comfortable with the medical recommendations or when leaving my small shih tzu pups with them. They took the time to explain what was needed and how it would beneifit their patient. \r \r We had one pup that had many needs and one that was the picture of health. Our oldest had allergies to everything, a heart murmur that was off the charts, weak kidneys, and had the 1 in a million reaction to medicines. She was able to live well into her 15th year due in large part to the care she received at Duraleigh Oak Park Hospital. Our youngest was healthy and happy all round. She received her general check ups gracefully and enjoyed being the center of attendtion when at the office. It was great to take them both in and know both would get the care they needed! \r \r All of the staff are animal lovers and on some Saturdays bring in their own four legged friends. It is always a pleasure to be in the office. If you are looking for people that love what they do and top-notch professional care for your family pets you can pick no better than Duraleigh Oak Park Veterinary Hospital. Pros: Great staff, take the time to talk with you, work with animal specialists and NC State Veternary Hospital, Saturday and evening hours Cons: They do recommend the highest level of care which can be expensive and they help you weigh the pros and cons of different treatments more

They saved my cats life 1/9/2009

A couple of years ago I found out my cat, Amber, is a diabetic. I came home after work to take her for our appointment about treatment and found that she had been sick all day. When I got to their office I thought she was just scared, but she was actually almost in a diabetic coma. They rushed her to the back to get her stabilized. She spent the whole week there. They called me every morning to let me know how she did during the night and didn't seem to mind when I visited with her every day on my lunch. Five days later when I brought her home it was very emotional. Everyone there was absolutely great! They saved her life and I'll never forget it. I have other cats, too and they've always been wonderful with my 'kids.'\r Thank you Dr Jordan, Dr Caldwell, and everyone else there\r Tracy Meadows, Amber, Max, Martin, Sam and Tasha more

Dr Jordan saved my dog's life 11/14/2008

Some of these other reviews make Dr. Jordan sound like a b*tch. Well she is, but my dog would not be here today if it wasn't for her. No other vet was competent enough to diagnose and treat my dog correctly. Dr Jordan has a strong personality, but that's what makes her a successful doctor. She will do everything in her power to treat your pet., including making personal sacrifices in order to do that. She is without a doubt a maverick, and it's not surprising to me that many oppose her and even despise her. But, hey, no one liked Martin Luther King either. ""Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence."" --Einstein, Albert. \r \r Hey Vetmed, quick question: Why did you take your cat to a vet if you're a doctor yourself? I mean it's not like you can't access and administer medication and vaccines yourself. In fact, as a doctor, I'm pretty sure you don't even have to pay for lab work. I'm sorry if you didn't have a good experience at Duraleigh Oak Park, but it's your own d*mn fault. If you're not smart enough to figure that one out, then you need to go back to vet school. more

Hold on to your wallet and run for the door 11/13/2008

I took our Golden Retriever to the former owner of this establishment and was very satisfied with the treatment and got what I considered a fair price. In my opinion, the goal of the new management is to fleece you from the moment you set place on the property. Office visit prices were close to double and there's always something you need to buy from them. My advice - stay away. more

Best Vets and staff 10/10/2008

This veterinary practice exceeds all of my expectations. The staff is always friendly, caring and courteous. The facility is always clean and the highest quality of care is given to my dog. It is a pleasure working with such professionals and to know my pet is getting the very best care! more

Through Service, Great Staff, bit Expensive 8/26/2008

I have been going to Oak Park for two years. I've got a dog and two cats. The staff has been very attentive to my pets and to me. Dr. Jordon can be a bit rough around the edges, but she just tells you how it is. For some people, that might be a difficult personality to take and would be more comfortable with Dr. Caldwell. Every visit is a shock due to how expensive pet services are, but I know the pets receive the most professional care. Services are suggested that met the best needs of the pet (with cost not being an issue), if I can not afford the service I just let them know and ask for options. The costs for quality vet care is almost as expensive as human health care. more

Exceptional Vet Service--We Highly Recommend! 5/21/2008

This is the first time I have done a review but want to say how happy we are with the care we have found for our cats at Duraleigh - Oak Park Veterinary Hospital. We brought our two cats to Dr. Jordan over six years ago when we moved to Raleigh, and we have received exceptional medical service for them at all times. Our one cat, Peppy, had to be put down in 2003. Dr. Jordan made it possible for this to be done in our home. We appreciated that so much! The doctors, Dr. Jordan and Dr. Caldwell, have been super in every way. They really know their business and have been able to lay out for us all the medical options available for our cats. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. They are so responsive to our needs whether we need vet care, kenneling, medication, food or advice. We think this Vet Hospital offers the best services of any we have experienced, and we have known many vets--having traveled world-wide (taking our cats!) for many years with the military. We deeply appreciate the care given to our cats and give these doctors and this hospital the highest possible recommendation. Pros: Highest quality veterinary care; friendly; responsive; widest range of services Cons: none to my knowledge more

The Very Best! 5/9/2008

With a succession of cats in my household, I have had a long association with this hospital over the years and truly can give high marks in every category. Doctors Jordan and Caldwell have shown compassion, expert knowledge and great follow-up services whether a cat of mine is there for routine exams; or, in the case of my Mokie, needs extended care due to blockage with struvite crystals over a year ago requiring several catheterizations and finally a surgery called a perineal urethrostomy. I was allowed to check on him often, spending time while he was recuperating from surgery under warm blankets and in a quiet setting. He now requires a special UR diet, canned and dry, which I can conveniently pick up at this same hospital which is closeby with great parking. I recommend this veterinary hospital to anyone who loves their pet and expects loving, expertise from their Vet.\r VDixon, Raleigh, NC more

Five Stars and More! 5/9/2008

I am writing to recommend Duraleigh Animal Hospital and Dr. Beth Jordan, Medical Director, a\r hospital and Veterinarian I've taken my cats to for several years. Dr. Jordan, Dr. Caldwell, the technicians and the front desk personnel are compassionate, knowledgeable and polite. Whether my cat is taken in a for a routine exam or a serious illness, I feel confident that he/she will receive excellent care. When a diagnosis is made, someone (either the Vet or a technician) will go over every detail, regarding the nature of the illness and the dispensing of the medication, this being done in a private area. The hospital is in a good location north of Crabtree Valley Mall with good parking. They don't come any better than\r Dr. Jordan and her Staff. VDixon, Raleigh, NC\r Pros: The medical care; compassionate staff; convenient location more

Bad Bedside manner 3/31/2008

I was a first timer to this vet and took my dog here for a treatment because it was referred by a few neighbors. When I got there as most new pet owners with puppies would be I was timid a bit. Wanted to soak it in. When I used to get my other dog checked out I went to a place in cary. They took care of him well. Let me be next to him for everything. This little guy can't talk so it is important for the vet to be open with the owners and do many things in front of them. When Oak Park did their care for him, they took him in the back. The vet came in Talked with me about what he had. Prescribed him something. When I mentioned other vets I had heard about, instead of the oak park vet saying those vets would be good as well but here is a plan I think we should get your lil guy on; she bashed the practices of others and came on very aggressive, which I do find highly unprofessional. She did give me a discount to keep me coming back. The medication she gave my pet I was not to more

Very Impressed 2/19/2008

I brought my new puppy into this vet (which is now Duraleigh-Oak Park I guess) early this year and was highly impressed with the service I received. The office was very clean and everyone greeted me with a smiling face. All of the staff seemed very knowledgable and very willing to answer all of my questions. I was seen by a Doctor who seemed to enjoy not only taking a look at my little guy, but also talking with me about his health, his future, and any of the many other topics we discussed. I admit the whole process of a puppy can be very overwhelming, but each topic was discussed very thoroughly by both the assitants and the vet herself. While I was there they also gave me a tour of the facility, which I found to be very comforting. All in all I felt very satisfied with the level of care I received and most of all with the very personal touch they offered. Through my years I have been to my fare share of clinics, but I felt the most comfortable with this one and would recommend more

Avoid this vet! 9/1/2007

My husband and I have been bringing our dog, Eddie, to this vet for almost seven years now. Recently (is it a coincidence that they are under new ownership?) we have been very put off by the service we have received. Yesterday was the final straw.\r My husband brought Eddie in for his six month blood work to test his Phenobarbital levels. While Eddie was in their office it was also time for his bi-annual exam, which is apparently another term for ?special time where the vet gets to be rude, condescending and try to sell you all sorts of special things that only she can provide?. In addition to the exam, Eddie was taken into the back where his toenails were clipped. We did not request this to be done. (Eddie used to let anyone touch his feet and/or clip his nails, until one time we had them done at their office. Now he is petrified.) He was taken to the back where three people held him down and clipped his nails. All the while my husband could hear all the laughing and carryi more

Animal Nightmare 4/1/2007

Adopted a 10-year-old cat, scheduled a routine checkup. The result? Three traumatic visits in which various personnel conducted two plasma tests and an 8-hour stay for a urinalysis. All within a week. Spent less than 90 seconds talking to an actual vet. Instead, the fourth trip was to be a ""consultation."" By this time, within 24 hours after the eight-hour ""urinalysis"" visit, the traumatized cat was hiding, refusing to eat or drink and sneezing uncontrollably. This place also sat on bloodwork results for five days, saying they hadn't come in even though the date showed they had come in the day after they were taken. The self-described ""owner"" threatened to have me arrested when I demanded all medical records. Bottom line? Nearly $600 in costs, no veterinarian consultation, multiple visits and contradictory information from various non-vet underlings, and a very sick cat that had been perfectly happy and highly extroverted before this nightmare. The whole ""Duraleigh-Oak Park Veterinary Hospital"" is to be avoided, in my opinion. Pros: Cat made it out alive..so far Cons: Too many ignorant underlings, high costs, little contact with actual vet. more

Good Pet Care 11/3/2005

Oak Park Veternary Hospital is convinentially located on Creedmoor Road in Raleigh - near Crabtree Valley Mall. They have a no appointment necessary policy which has both its positive and negative points. The facility does accept 'pet insurance' which is a relatively new concept for area clinics. They are open until 8:00 on Wednesday and Thursday evenings which makes it VERY nice for those who work during the day. more
