We have been seeing Dr. Jordan and Dr. Caldwell for the past six years. When we found Dr. Jordan, we had a German Shepherd and two Domestic Shorthaired cats in our family. We had just moved to N.C. a year before, and month after moving our German Shepherd became extremely ill. After spending over $6,000 in less than a year at another well respected vet in the area, on tests, medications which were extremely expensive, and getting what I feel was a less than thorough diagnosis we found Dr. Jordan. I became extremely ill a month after my dog, and finally was diagnosed with tick borne illness. We had lived in New England before we moved and despite this, our previous vet could not wrap her mind around the thought that maybe our GShep was suffering from tick borne illness too. I was sent to the vet school where I spent over $700 in testing and it was still negative. Not only that I had her on a medication that is extremely expensive and extremely effective at suppressing the immune system which was the worst thing our dog could have been prescribed we would soon find out. Flash forward found Dr. Jordan went through much less expensive testing and it turned out it was tick borne illness, as well, our girl also was suffering from severe food allergies. Dr. Jordan addressed the allergies, treated the tick borne illness and with in two weeks of treatment and new food she was like a new dog and survived to a ripe old age of 14 years old, which is a ripe old age for a German Shepherd these days. On the wall of Dr. Jordan's office she has framed the oath one must take to become a veterinarian. One of the agreements as a veterinarian is that you agree to protect public health in addition to animal's health. There are many zoonotic diseases and parasites which can affect animals and people. Dr. Jordan is very aware of public health and how it can be impacted by animal health. Dr. Jordan has volunteered a huge amount of time to public health issues. While many have commented that her rates are high, I don't believe they are any higher than many other vets in this area and others. I have lived Maryland, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Her fees are comparable to most metropolitan veterinarians. She has never pushed treatments, tests, or surgeries on us. She has always taken her time with us at appointments, explained our different options, and has always been supportive when we have faced the day when our babies have reached the end of their lives. She has always been respectful of us and our babies. She does not sugar coat anything, and I find this comforting. I cannot stand being led down a garden path. She is clear, has sound boundaries, and is dedicated. She does have a strong nature and I think this serves her well in the realm of veterinarian medicine. If you have boundary issues, need to have your a(* kissed, or are extremely wishy washy you may not like her communication style. Dr. Caldwell is wonderful too and extremely compassionate. We trust her knowledge and care as well. The staff has always been responsive, caring, and efficient in our experience. We have boarded our pets as well, and they always come home happy and healthy. A relationship with a healthcare provider to yourself or your pets is a very personal one. If you are looking for a highly skilled, compassionate, concise, and intuitive veterinarian practice, look no further than Duraleigh-Oak Park Veterinarian Practice.
