Cock of the Walk - Nashville 10/19/2011

I've eaten at this restaurant three times. It was absolutely marvelous each time. The service was excellent as was the atmosphere. Serving the cornbread from the cast iron skillet by flipping it is unique and fun. The catfish is excellent are the hushpuppies and other sides. I really wish there was a Cock of the Walk near us. The other reviewers who gave the food negative comments must not be familiar with southern style fried catfish. I can't imagine how it could have been that bad. more

Best of Catfish, Chicken and fixings 1/8/2011

On New Year's Eve, 2010, a group from Immanuel Baptist Church in Murfreesboro had reservations at 5:45 p.m. for dinner. Our party had 38 folks, all hungry and ready for some of the great catfish and chicken. We arrived at 5:40, exited the bus, entered the restaurant and was escorted immediately to our room where all of us ate together. The service was excellent, the food nice and fresh and hot and the atmosphere was great. This is the 4th or 5th time that our Church has had a large group meal and we have never been the least bit dissapointed. Hats off to the management and staff for their excellent service.\r Try them, you will love it without a doubt. more

Great Food! 5/6/2010

Food and service very Southern. Catfish and sides are very good. We had no problems with the service and it's a fun atmosphere. Pros: Great food Cons: Only problem we have ever had...it was too cold once. more

Great food and excellent service 3/10/2010

We at here March 10th. The hostess was very friendly and efficient. The waitress was really good - she was efficient and friendly (came several times to check on us.) One of the other waiters even came by our table and stopped to see if everything was ok. My husband got the catfish and I got the sampler (shrimp, catfish and chicken.) More food than we could eat and it was excellent. If you like fried foods (even if they aren't ""good"" for you) this is a great place to eat. The catfish is absolutely WONDERFUL! Really southern country atmosphere and the sweet tea is sooooo good. Pros: Great catfish more

Fun restaurant but lacking in flavor 1/2/2010

A restaurant that specializes in fried food sounds great but we did not enjoy our dinner at Cock of the Walk. The restaurant is fun and unique and the staff is friendly but the food was not very good. My husband somewhat enjoyed the catfish but everything else from the slaw, hush puppies, even the bread are gross. I do not recommend. Pros: Fun, unique, friendly staff Cons: Food more

Worst restaurant in Nashville 1/8/2009

We actually had to wait for almost 30 minutes in a not crowded place, we get to our table, it took them forever to bring us our drinks, took them even longer to take our order and I can see why, they were probably trying to prevent us from the gastronomic nightmare that was soon to be! The only way this place is still in business is because tourists come in on a regular basis because they don't know any better. You could not pay me to go here, let alone eat here again. Also, the employees gave off the air that they were in a sort of indentured servitude. Just plain awful! Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

If Southern homestyle is what you're looking for - look no further. 3/29/2008

Seated in five minutes. Battered fried catfish was excellent as was the fried chicken, cornbread and greens. Plenty of river atmosphere with cast iron serving pots and tin plates and cups. Server was friendly, attentive and put on a show of flipping our cornbread in a cast iron skillet 5 feet in the air. If you've been looking for good catfish since Uncle Buds closed - this is the place to go. more

EXECELLENT FOOD, SUPER FAST SERVICE, GREAT LOCATION,GOOD PRICES 8/16/2007

TOOK A GROUP OF 14 TO DINNER AT THIS RESTAURANT ON ADVICE FROM A FRIEND. WE COULDN'T HAVE PICKED A BETTER PLACE. IT IS 3 OR 4 MINUTES DOWN FROM THE GRAND OLE OPRY AND SUPER EASY TO FIND. PLENTY OF FREE & HANDICAP PARKING. WELL LIGHTED PARKING LOT - FELT SAFE!! THEY HAD OUR GROUP SEATED WITHIN 10 MINUTES AND WE WERE EATING WITHIN ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. THIS WAS ""GREAT"" CONSIDERING THERE WERE 14 OF US. THE CATFISH WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER EAT, EVEN BETTER THAN MAMA'S. I TRIED A PIECE OF MY WIFE'S FRIED CHICKEN AND IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. ALL THE SIDES WERE VERY GOOD, FRESH & TASTY. THEY ACTUALLY GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN EAT. AND THE CORNBREAD, FLIPPED IN THE CAST IRON SKILLET AT YOUR TABLE IS ""KILLER"". IT WAS SO GOOD THAT I MADE THEM GIVE ME THEIR RECIPE. EVERYONE IN OUR GROUP WAS IMPRESSED WITH THIS PLACE. WHEN WE COME BACK AGAIN TO THE OPRY, WE WILL WITHOUT DOUBT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. I CAN'T WAIT. Pros: PLEANTY OF FREE PARKING, WELL LIT PARKING LOT, CLEAN Cons: A LITTLE NOISEY-BUT THAT'S KIDS FOR YOU more

I've been going to this place for the last 15 years... 1/11/2007

I've been eatting here for as long as I can remember. The menu is very small but to the point, they have delicious catfish and chicken. I love the tin cups and plates, the cornbread is to die for. I plan on going back again very soon. Pros: quick service, very affordable, generous portions more

Worst food in Nashville 8/5/2006

I'm not sure how this place stays in business. I took several out-of-town guests for a traditional catfish dinner and it was the worst food I have ever experienced at a restaurant. No one could cut the catfish let alone eat it. The french fries were a greasy pile and the shrimp was horrible. We left and went to another restaurant. more

Great Catfish 2/20/2006

They have the best catfish in Nashville, hands down. The sides are very tasty as well. But if you are new to the city like me and looking for catfish, this is the best here. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Parking Cons: Atmosphere, Selection more

This one doesn't belong in the hen house 11/4/2002

This is one bad rooster! The restaurant was not even remotely crowded, and it took our waitor forever to even come to take our drink orders. After waiting so long for our drinks and food, the cornbread flipping was hardly amusing. The service was slower than Christmas and the food was bland. If you're hungry and in Nashville, avoid this place! Pros: Good parking Cons: Slow Service, Small menu more
