Cameli's Pizza

Maybe it's the fact that its right next to kroger where you can buy your own ingredients and make your own pizza quicker and cheaper. I heard so many great things about this place and I was not impressed. My pie was okay and the monster slice was decent only because it had a FEW tasty toppings. I don't know why but the server was super slow and I've been a server for years. I don't care if the food takes a long time but just don't let my girlfriend and I's water go empty for so long. I got so sick of waiting for water so I drank hers....twice. The server was friendly but the place only had four tables sat at around 2pm and all were close to each other. The price was not worth it! I feel that if it were really good I would've finished all my food and then wanted more. However i didn't have time to wait for more let alone did i want any. Oh Fellinis how I'm sorry for doubting you and going to another slice for satisfaction. I feel guilty for wasting my time and money here. Plus, im normally very patience and understanding since I do serve as well, but something must have slowed her down for her to not at least bring us more water. Well...obviously it's no five star so what can I expect. Also, it appeared as though one of the employees had their child working...who knows. The other menu items seemed delicious but i just don't care to go back. Hated this pace just hated it. Never going back. more

There was a time when i didn't know what real pizza was, and then i found Cameli's. Pizza is a pretty broad category, anything with crust, sauce, and cheese qualifies, but its easy to tell when pizza is better than good. Cameli's is committed to a high quality of customer service. Please don't let that review from 1/14 deter you from coming to the best pizza joint in town. The reviewer from 1/14 was absolutely not present for the incident in question. His super-drunk friend began yelling and screaming that his slice was taking too long. When the manager told him that his food was still in the oven and that he should calm down, the drunk guy started swinging at the manager. Our manager did defend himself and the drunk was forced out of the restaurant with the help of a very good customer of ours. Moral of the story: if you are naturally violent, obnoxious, and drunk as a skunk, please stay at home. more

Everything about the drunk incident is true. But what amazes me, an employee of Cameli's writes a review, about my review, and the manager responds poitively. First of all, It's against CitySearch policy for an employee to write a review. The manager didn't respond to my review. After he threw the guy out, why didn't he credit the guys credit card back, since he never received any food. The guy did not attack the manager, he was behind the counter. If the manager wants to dispute this, respond to this posting. I 'masking CitySearch to remove this employees review, plus other one time reviewers, who sound like employees also. On to the food. You want a slice of pizza. Order it, and watch them take it from a pan atop the pizza overn. And yes it's uncovered, and no telling how long it's been sitting there. This place is great! My boyfriend and I live nearby and really enjoy coming here, especially since they expanded and acquired a liquor license. When I first started coming here, I wasn't super impressed with their pizza, but then I realized that they're happy to ""tailor"" your pizza to you. I'm a 'light cheese-heavy sauce' pizza lover, and they're always happy to serve it up just like I like it. It takes quite a while to get the food, but I don't mind - I like sitting at the bar with a beer and friends, chatting with each other or even the always-friendly bartenders, to pass the time. They've got a juke box and even a little lounge room. Their service isn't stellar, but I almost kinda like that about them - When I'm only paying a few bucks for a slice of pizza, I don't need someone in my face every second. It's very casual and easy going, which brings in a similar crowd. They've made a long-time customer out of me! more

Servings are big, food is great - the cheese is particularly tasty, price is fantastic. In the spring, the outdoor seating is nice (if smokers are not smoking that is). Staff is friendly and service is quick. One of my favorite casual eating spots in town. Pros: food, selection of toppings, art on walls, price Cons: waiting in line to order more

I've been enjoying Camelis pizza for the last 2 years now and I'd recommend this little joint to anyone. It's in a hole in the wall close to Kroger's on Ponce, it's really the hidden gem of a nondescript stripmall. The crust of the pizza is pretty distrinctive, it's light and thin, and slightly crispy on the outside. Great ingredients, extremely fresh. more

upon entering, the smells were good and it looked like your typical pizza joint. Music was nice and they were hand tossing the pizza. I ordered a Greek salad and it came with a vinegar based banana pepper instead of pepperchinis like authentic Greek salads have. Made a big difference on the taste. Which was unacceptable. I ordered a pizza with pinnapple,sundried tomato's and pepperchini's. They served the pizza with the same vinegar based banana peppers. NOT what i ordered and the taste was way off. The pizza sauce had no garlic and was very minimally applied on the not quite done pizza crust which was bland and well, ya know,it just wasn't good. I told the cook that they put the wrong ingredients on my pizza and he just shrugged and said he would let the owner know that banana peppers were not the same as pepperchinis. That was my first and last visit to this place. No customer service. they expect you to clean your own table. I'll tell you what.....if I'm going out to eat and you want me to clean up after myself, I'm keeping the tip cause i deserve it. Difficult to park. The staff looked dirty, and the dining area was dismal. There was absolutely no customer service. The pizza was pricy, greasy, and crust was tough. Don't waste your time! Pros: in town location Cons: no parking. bad pizza more

We have stopped into Cameli's Pizza many times over the years, after having a few drinks at our favorite Poncey-Highland haunts. Well we went back early, before going out for drinks, and we had a very sobering experience. Yes everyone orders slices, but the pies are made way in advance, and the slices are thrown into the oven, when ordered, with your toppings of choice. Somehow, this was just not up to our standards, and yes we are pizza snobs. Maybe this is well for slackers, but not for us. The staff has a too casual, what the heck attitude. As a former Yank stranded in Atlanta for the past few years, I have been somewhat disappointed with the pizza here in town. However, if places like Cameli's and Savage keep churning out consistently excellent everyday pizza, I think I will survive. Pros: Best crust in town Cons: Dining room needs help more

The previous reviewer that prefers fellinis to this place is a classic example of atlanta groupthink. A few people rave about a place like mellow mushroom 'oh, the crust is so great' and people start to believe it. Yes, fellinis loads their pizzas up with toppings and yes, mellow mushroom has a unique crust...but I prefer Camelis to either of them. In my opinion, pizza is about taste...and taste means sauce. Cameli's sauce is excellent...and the garlic taste that should accompany pizza taste is there. If you want bready, cheesy pizza...you have other options. To me, the crispy thin crust of Camelis is the perfect canvas for the traditional taste that they do so well. My favorite in town. Pros: So tasty. Cons: Dining room a little depressing. more

Originally I only had teh monster slice here. I used to be a bigger fan of Savage Pizza for a whole pie, but after deciding to give Camelli's a try, its definitely the best pie in town, except for Rosa's, which clearly is the only thing that competes with NYC here. more

I first tried Cameli's a few months back. The pizza is so fresh ingredients and tasty that I crave it! It's my only choice for pizza - when I indulge in pizza! The crust is perfect thin and crusty with just the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese. Then they add an abundance of my favorite toppings - vegetarian for a perfect pizza! more

I paid over 9 bucks for two slices of grease and paper thin crust. What a joke! Who are the people that do these editorial reviews??? I could get 3 slices of pizza from Fellini's STACKED with toppings and cheese. It makes me wonder if the people doing these reviews have even had their pizza. We always forget about Camelli's because it's just not convenient to our house (there's a Fellini's just around the corner), but EVERY time we go we promise ourselves to drive the extra ten minutes for the best pizza we've found in Atlanta. The monster slice borders on obnoxious. Remember the trays that your elementary school lunches came on? The monster slice would hang over the edges. I prefer to get the smallest pizza they make (it's about the same size as one monster slice). The tomato blush sauce is terrific! Really hard to go wrong with anything.
