My family and I have been members to this museum for some time. Parking, as with everything in the area isn't great, especially during it's renovation, so go a little early, and be prepared to drive around a little bit.
Family days are well planned for children of all ages.
Even if there isn't a "Family Day", make sure you go, and check out a Family Pack from the front desk. It contains a scavenger hunt, and pencil and paper for the children to sketch what they see.
Just delightful.

Fernbank Science Center is a great place to go and learn a few things as well as to be entertained. One of the most fun events they have is their IMAX and Martini nights where they have a beautiful bar serving drinks and appetizers followed by the screening of an IMAX movie afterwards. It's a great way to spend time with some friends or on a date.

The APEX Museum presents the African American Panoramic Experience and helps people better understand what life has been like for black people in Atlanta. It recreates the Yates and Milton Drug Store, which was one of Atlanta's first Black owned businesses. You can hear taped recordings of people talking about their personal experiences, see various memorabilia and photographs and view multimedia presentations. It's very educational, interesting and well presented. And all at the bargain rate of only $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and students and children under 4 years old and members are FREE!

My husband and I love historic architecture and we really enjoyed our tour of Joel Chandler Harris' home. Harris, author of the Uncle Remus books was also an editor of the Atlanta Constitution. Originally built in 1870, Harris bought it in 1883 and in 1884 turned it into the cute Victorian Queen Anne cottage it is today. Virtually unchanged since Harris' death in 1908, this landmark home even contains the furnishings from Harris time there.

A great place to take the kids on a rainy day. Also a great attraction for your nieces and nephews. Be sure to sit as close to the front as possible so you can really see the puppets.

We saw a taping of "Blue Collar TV" here. The staff is excellent, parking abundant, and the decor is beautiful.
Snack bars are plentiful, bathrooms are easy to access, and there is even an ATM in the lobby.
Make sure you get there early enough to park, and that you arrive with enough time to spare, regardless of whatever performance you are attending.

This is not a standard museum but a place built for little kids. The kids run from area to area building, touching, playing............and just generally having a great time. It is a fun time for parents and kids because there are so many things to do together. A kid's imagination can just go wild. Every child I saw there was having a good time.
Pros: Family Friendly, Helpful Staff

More
My wife and I took a rainy day tour of the Carter Center. It was a day well spent. We really liked the travelling exhibit of gowns of the First Ladies in history. The museum layout is designed to make your self-guided tour of the facility simple to plan and follow. We ate in their cafeteria that has a pleasant atmosphere with a pleasing view of the grounds. The food was tasty and service was very friendly; we felt as if we were guests in the home of a hostess.
President Carter's papers are organized by the day of the year. Plan to read a day of President Carter's papers from the library. It is a very interesting collection of memos and correspondence. The facination is the mix of people who contact a President of the Untied States and the reasons they write to him. We plan on returning this spring...and will read papers from his library at the mid-point of our day there.
Pros: Go at your own pace, price is fair, staff is approachable and friendly
Cons: none

We love going to Great Gatsby's to browse or to buy. The variety of antiques is great and you are always able to find something unique and different. A fun place to just browse and discover too. I have not purchased something from them before but I love their wide selection and unique items. They even have a website where you can preview auction items before the auction date.
