My family and I have been members to this museum for some time. Parking, as with everything in the area isn't great, especially during it's renovation, so go a little early, and be prepared to drive around a little bit.
Family days are well planned for children of all ages.
Even if there isn't a "Family Day", make sure you go, and check out a Family Pack from the front desk. It contains a scavenger hunt, and pencil and paper for the children to sketch what they see.
Just delightful.

More
The Michael C. Carlos Museum is my favorite museum in Georgia. Located at Emory University, the museum contains treasures from thousands of years gone by and from many areas of the world. My personal favorite sections are the Greek and Roman exhibits and the Egyptian exhibits. But the Asian and Early North American areas are equally well-done. Right now (August 2006) there is a spectacular exhibit going on called "In Stabiana," with wonderful frescoes, mosaics, and more from a recently discovered luxury resort from Ancient Rome on display. Other special exhibits have included the mummy believed to be that of Ramses, which was returned to Italy by the museum.
Do not miss the gift shop! Here you can find extremely reasonably priced gift items, for yourself or someone else, such as scarabs from Egypt and handcrafted small bags from Mexico, art cards, jewelry, and many wonderful books.
The museum is free, but a $7 donation is requested, and the visit is worth much more than that.

We went to the museum for a birthday party and had a great time. The party was well done and then allowed the guests to experience the museum. My 3 year old enjoyed all of the museum and my 1 year old really enjoyed the water feature where you can 'fish', splash or just try to grab toys out of the water. The climbing structures and painting station were a big hit with both children. We'll be back even though the admission price does seem a bit high. Memberships are avaiable and we may consider that in the future.

The Atlanta History Center contains much more than just the history of Atlanta. It also includes history of Georgia, the South and the nation and contains items from the early 19th century to the present. There are permanent and temporary exhibits, military items, folk art, textiles, the exquisitely restored Swan House and the Tullie Smith Farm living history center. The Atlanta History Center is much more than just history, however. It also includes a tour of the surrounding gardens and nature trails. We've enjoyed every visit here. Our only complaint is that we never have enough time to fully enjoy all the History Center has to offer.

Atlanta is home to lots of television headquarters like the Weather Channel, TBS, TNT, and most importantly CNN. When my family and I visited when I headed to college, we did the CNN tour which is very interesting and educational. It's really amazing how much technology and staff goes into airing the news which is a relatively quiet programming choice compared to some action shows. It was interesting to see how the network functioned.

Even though this Governor's mansion was not built until 1967, it is full of historic items. These can be enjoyed when you take a self-guided tour of the mansion. The exterior of the mansion is Greek Revival-style, while many of the interior pieces are from the Federalist Period. The floating staircase in the foyer is an amazing feature, as are many of the lighting fixtures, the woodwork and furnishings. On our visit, there were hostesses in many of the 10 rooms we toured who were very helpful and interesting.

I ready the review about being expensive and overcharging.
I walked into Trio today for the 1st time with 3 brand new pairs of shoes (Bruno,Prada, and Armani)
All needed custom fitting. I was out the door in 15 minutes with a perfect fit, trees for each pair, and it cost me a total of $30.

Thanks to Atlanta hosting the Olympics a few years back, Atlantans received a beautiful park in the middle of downtown. Adjacent to the CNN Center and Phillips Arena, this park is the site for many events throughout the year, including many great concerts. People working in surrounding buildings flock there for lunch to enjoy nice weather, and during the hot summers, kids play in the fountains that squirt water in the pattern of the Olympic logo of the five rings. It's a blast!

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta is a great way to spend an afternoon in Atlanta. They have many interesting permanent exhibits, as well as limited engament exhibits. It does cost to get in, but you can become a friend of the museum to save money. I love the open, airy feeling of the building, and it is in a prime location for sight seers and people ready to spend a day in Atlanta.
