This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that mostly the locals know about. The food and beer are not expensive but they are really good. As the name suggests they serve pizza but also a lot of other great things. I personally love the red lasagna and the city chicken sandwich. They also offer a wonderful Italian marscapone and bread dessert. Get there early because it fills up quickly in the evenings and is quite the spot to be on weekend nights.

More
I eat at Apres Diem about once every couple of months, and I always want to like it. The food is usually fresh and slightly Mediterranean (which I like), and the atmosphere is always abuzz with young people of various flavors and persuasions eating in the courtyard. (You can also watch people in line for the nearby Midtown Art Cinema, which is usually interesting, too.)
It's one of the few menus in town that's decent for grazing, with very good sandwiches and decent salads and cold appetizers along with the (slightly expensive) dinner specials.
Last night I had the baba ganoush plate and my dining partner had the Greek salad, and we were both very happy with our food. However, when we were ready, it took thirty minutes to get the attention of our server and pay our check. This was on a Tuesday night, when it wasn't particularly busy, and it's not unusual. I'm afraid that this is relatively common there -- it's a great place for a light meal, to hang out with friends, or to enjoy a bottle of wine or a coffee drink, but be prepared to linger over it.
By the way, the restaurant shares ownership with Carpe Diem in downtown Decatur (larger and slightly more formal) and with the Carroll Street Cafe in Cabbagetown (smaller and much more informal), and many of the menu items are the same. I eat at Carroll Street much more often, because it's simpler and quicker and the food is just as good.

Yama Sushi is one of Atlanta's newest, freshest Japanese restaurants. (Considering I am usually there grubbing 3-5 times per week, I should know).
Try the Extra Spicy Super Crunchy or the Shrimp Brothers roll. Live scallops, Aji or Toro. Not to mention the Octopus salad, Special Spicy New Style Sashimi, or the myriad signature dishes Yama-san has created from scratch or the traditional Japanese dishes to which he's added a creative twist.
Great place to meet for lunch, dinner or for an icy cold bottle of top-shelf sake on a weekend. Located just north of Northridge road exit 6 (GA 400).
Try Yama sushi. You won't be disappointed. Great value, even better sushi

So the restaurant looks a little shady from the name and the outside, but inside this is a great place to go! Besides... some of the shadiest looking restaurants have the best tasting food! The food is fairly decent priced. It is not just a seafood restaurant, but that is the main focus. Highly recommend having their crab cakes or their crab cake po' boy. They are not dry and just taste awesome. They have a large selection of alcoholic beverages to choose from. They even have oyster shooters. However, I'm not an oyster fan so I do not know how they are. I have been told they are very unique in flavor. This is a great place to just hang out with some friends and have some good food and good drinks!

Buckhead Diner is one of those places that a lot of people w/ not so good taste buds say is amazing when it is actually just good. Their food is normal American cuizine which is nothign special, but they do have some "special" items. This restaurant is okay, but a pretty penny for what you get. There's better stuff out there, but I guess it's Buckhead so it's gonna cost more automatically w/ no increase in quality. The atmosphere was just... meh. If you got money to waste and don't care that the food doesn't compare to the price, in a negative way, by all means go.

This place has an amazingly large selection of martinis to choose from. If you want to just hang out with friends with a couple of drinks and good food this is the place to go. They have an amazing selection of food... not in the terms of large, but a variety. They have a great Goat Cheese Salad, Fried Brie, and so many other things to eat. Just reading their menu makes you hungry. There were so many things there that I wanted to try, but I would never have been able to eat it all. Their martini selection is just huge. They have a Cotton Candy Martini, Chocolate Covered Strawberry Martini, Tiramisu Martini and so many more. Once again, another aspect of things I wanted to try there, but never got around to it. I would definitely recommend eating here whenever I have a chance! Also, they are right on a lake or river (I cannot remember) which makes for an awesome ambiance.

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! The atmosphere is just cozy, romantic, and fun. It is just something that you would never experience at another restaurant. The food is so good that I have never had anything that I did not really like. They have something for meat-eaters, seafood lovers, and vegetarians. They do not have any particular Latin flavor to them, but they represent tapas from a variety of latino countries. The food is presented beautifully! They give you plenty of time to eat your food in peace without feeling rushed. You leave there full, but not stuffed which is a wonderful feeling! On certain days of the week, it would be best to make a reservation, but it is not necessary. They also offer entertainment on certain nights which I have heard are tons of fun. This is a great place to go if you are looking for something out of the ordinary and fun.

More
Maggiano's is a great restaurant for family style eating. My family and I eat there often and we always get great service every time we go. You have to keep in mind that because they're so busy you must make your reservations about a week in advance or you'll have to wait an hour or two. They don't take call aheads, but they do take walk ins. They also have private party rooms that can accomedate very large parties, so if you have a function and need banquet space Maggiano's is your place. Try the calamari appetizer and the beef medaliaon are amazing. Great place for a first date, if you make reservations.
