Best

I have been going here for about a year and all the masseurs have been great. Andrei, James, and Sebastian are amazing.

Guaranteed Strong Awesome Massage 11/6/2010

I've been going to Brooks for years and it's one of the only places in LA I've found therapists who you can rely on to give you a real deep tissue massage. I've never been disappointed by the massages there and have tried many different therapists. The spa facilities are an added bonus and the location is central. Treat yourself! more

Most amazing Massage in TOWN!! 8/9/2010

I have to say first off that Brooks has the most gifted massage therapists on the planet working here. I have been going to this establishment since I was 18 and am now 30 and I have never been dissapointed. All of the employees and therapists are extremely humble and wait on you hand and foot. The best thing about Brooks is that it's not some place you go to expecting glitz and glam but rather a great massage with a great atmosphere and best of all you get what you pay for. I would highly reccomend Brooks to anyone more

BEST MASSAGE EVER!!! 7/23/2010

A girlfriend of mine had recommended this place to me one time and since I live so close I thought I would give it a try. Parking I would say is the only con that I had, they told me I could either try and find street parking or that I could park at a meter and they would fill it while I was there(since it's only an hour). I didn't want to chance anyone forgetting to feed the meter and get me a ticket, so I decided on street parking. Now, fyi, street parking is pretty difficult to find in this area, but I managed to find quite a few spots a block north on Curson. To look at this place you wouldn't think such skilled and wonderful therapists would work here. The lobby(ish) area is really shabby, the decor is confused with itself and there are definitely no bells and whistles, BUT by the end of your session, the shabbiness becomes almost charming...like a tacky mom and pop restaurant with the best fish and chips. I arrived earlier than my appointment like the receptionist had recommended in order to use the steam and sauna rooms. Felt soooooo nice to warm up my muscles and relax. Now for the massage! I had James as my therapist and WOW!! does he know what he is doing!! The pressure was perfect, not too light, but also not trying to break me either and he knew exactly where i needed the most work and he worked my knots right out. Very professional and wonderful. I felt like it was almost possible to float home after wards. :) Seriously, no joke...BEST massage of my life!! Pros: fantastic massages, low key, friendly staff Cons: parking more

Question for Brooks patrons 2/14/2010

Does anyone know where Peter went? The man is a genius and I'm desperate to find him. Thanks! Pros: Steam, Sauna, Simon Cons: Space feels old more

HANDS DOWN BROOKS IS THE BEST!!!! 8/20/2009

Brooks is amazing, I had walked past this place and didn't think much of it from the outside but as I went inside to see what this place was all about the front desk receptionist was very friendly and gave me great information along with a tour. As I have been there now a few times each and every time the visit was very enjoyable, if I ever need anything the staff is very helpful and the massages I've had there are always AWSOME! Another thing that impressed me was the steam room, private resting rooms, and sauna with eucalyptus which was great. Also the fact that you don't have to stress out about parking, they take care of it for you whether it's at a meter or with the valet guys. All in all the place is clean, simple and the therapists are the best! Pros: affordable, consistent, unique, clean, CHOCOLATES : ) Cons: chocolates more

Brook's is a Great Place for a Deep Tissue Massage 8/15/2009

I have had several good deep tissue massages at Brook's. I cannot complain at all. However, I do not care for the shower/spa area especially since it doesn't seem private when the host/hostess gives a tour to new users. I highly recommend getting a massage here because they have some of the best massage therapists working here and they also have great rates when you compare them to Burke Williams, etc. Just shower before you arrive. Pros: Best Deep Tissue Massages Cons: Not so great shower/spa area more

Be Very Clear About What You Want 6/19/2009

I read many of the reviews before going here. It was better than I expected in regard to the amenities. Don't expect Burke Williams, but it's nice that it's more than just a massage... they do have a dry sauna, a steam room, etc. When I walked in, I got a tour. I was shown to my room. This part is quite nice, actually. You get your own little room to lie down, put your stuff, etc. Then you're called out when the therapist is ready and you move into a treatment room. This is where my disappointment began. I was expecting a big, burly Russian man, who was going to knead my knots away, per the reviews. That's not what I got. I got a small-framed, gentle man, who didn't ask me what I wanted, but assumed I wanted to focus on my neck, shoulders and back. I said, "definitely... these are the areas I want to focus on." The massage begins and I'm getting a nice, relaxing skin massage. I'm wondering when the kneading will begin. He tells me to let him know if I would like it firmer. I said, "definitely on the upper back and shoulders." He says, "yes, we'll get to that..." The entire hour goes by and my knots were not worked on. My upper back and shoulders were caressed for a bit, but that's it. In hindsight, I guess I wasn't clear about what I wanted, though I thought I was and felt a bit dismissed when I mentioned it during the treatment. I basically had a one-night stand with no O. It was nice, but I didn't get what I came for. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: No frills more

can't beat it 9/4/2008

as many other reviewers state, you just can't beat brooks on price and quality of services. i want to add that i've been going for the past several years and always leave feeling terrific. will is the absolute best: intuitive, strong and very thorough, and uses a variety of techniques. i always book an hour with will and even that seems insufficient, he is that good. for a superb deep tissue sports massage, yuri and andre can't be beat. the facilities are small but clean and quite frankly, i like brooks much better than burke williams and the fancier places because i like getting massages regularly and frequently. brooks delivers on consistency and value. i highly recommend. Pros: Location, hours, good value, and top massage therapists like Will, Yuri and Andre Cons: Small and no frills, not necessarily cons. more

Nice Personality 5/8/2008

This place is really great. They were so nice and the service was outstanding. Only thing is I had trouble with parking. Pros: Service Cons: Parking more

best massage in LA!!! 3/6/2008

i've walked by this place countless amounts of times, and finally deceided to go in to see what it was all about. man was i missing out! super friendly staff the moment you walk in, wonderful private rooms for the ladies(with chocolate!!) : ) and the massage, oh the massage!!...i was mush when i came out and every muscle in my body was at ease. overall it was a very comfortable and relaxing experience and one that i plan on having again in the VERY near future! Pros: massage therapists, atmosphere, staff, no frills Cons: none. more

Best Massage! 3/1/2008

I've gone to a few massage places around town, and to a few spas. Granted that Brooks isn't as modern and clean as places like Raya, the masseurs here are tops, (especially is you like deep tissue). Also, they don't swindle you for the last ten minutes of a massage as I've noticed many spas now give 50 minute massages for around $100 bucks. If you get to Brooks before 1:30PM M-F, you can grab a great two hour massage for about $135 bucks! The "Spa" section isn't quite up to par, but if you're not picky, you can get a sauna and steam while you're there. The point is, you'll get more for your money and leave just as relaxed, if not MORE, than other more pricey places. I'd also like to add that the staff is very friendly and welcoming. One warning: Don't dump the eucalyptus oil onto the stones in the sauna! I thought it was water, but learned quickly that it was oil! I felt like a total dork when the receptionist asked me, "did it catch on fire?!" Pros: Massuers, Price, Staff Cons: Spa area, parking more

this is NOT a spa-- it's a cold green hospital setting-I would not go here ever again. 1/14/2008

First of all, if you are looking for a relaxing spa experience--this is NOT the place to go...I would compare it to fast food of the restaurant industry with a hospital design. I say this because when I entered, I had totally different expectations. They put you in dressing rooms that look like a cold hospital room to change--the color of the walls is a morbid green. Then there is one little bathroom, a VERY small steam room and sauna. When I went upstairs for the massage, the room looked like a dirty table, old towels, and really similar to a hospital setting. The therapist was so aggressive and when I told him to please be a little more gentle he said maybe this is not the massage I was looking for--of course I didn't come to be in pain for an hour!! I am usually not one to complain, but this really was a frustrating experience. When I told the girl in the front about my experience, she said well if you don't want to leave a tip, just don't--that was not my point. If you want a fast, cheap massage, that makes you feel like you are in a cold green hospital setting, this is the place to go. If not, there are so many great spas and places to get massages in los angeles, that I would never go here again. more

Great little massage place 1/1/2008

My friend and I used to take advantage of their discount: 30 minutes for $30. What a bargain! The masseuse really knew what she was doing. You can stay in their steam room and sauna for as long as you want. The place isn't very large or fancy but it really hits the spot! more

Yury is the best massage therapist in the land. 8/31/2007

I like really deep tissue massages and Yury is definitely the man for the job. The first time I ever went, I could barely turn my neck because I was in such pain. As Yury was kneading my upper back, I asked, "Are those knots you're going over?" And in the thickest Russian accent, he answered, "Yes! But I will destroy them!" From that moment on, I was sold. He has never failed me. Pros: YURY! Cons: Not the fanciest decor, but I'm more concerned about the service instead of smoke and mirrors more

AMAZING and REJUVENATING!! THE place to go for a massage, no question. 7/30/2007

Here's where to find that little piece of bliss to tuck away in your day- from the moment the receptionist ushers you in towards your private suite, you're feeling absolutely taken care of. There's an amazing vibe throughout the place- mellow and relaxed and calm. THEN you have the massage, and if you like someone taking ALL of the stress out of EVERYTHING, this is the place for you. As a dancer, I suffered a pulled groin last summer, and it took all of an hour for Peter to shiatsu me on my way to recovery, and I have to say that no one else had been able to help me with the pain. But he certainly was, and it was incredible. A couple more things to consider- how lovely and warm and welcoming the staff is, the sauna and steam room and shower made available to you, and the personal suite you have to just relax if you want. Another plus? You have the most amazing and lovely and fantastic experience- and it's still affordable!! I would highly recommend Brooks as THE number one spot in LA for a massage, no question about it. When you walk away, not only is your body nourished and rejuvenated, but so is your spirit. Pros: Warm and welcoming, great energy and environment- and a kick-butt massage! more

what a relief! 5/24/2007

i just moved here and i was totally overwhelmed. my back was killing me from moving furniture and unpacking. i got a deep tissue massage and at first i thought "oh no! more pain." but a couple days later i felt better than i had in my whole life. yuri rocks! Pros: friendly desk people, greatest massage ever Cons: um, none! more

the most authentic massage anywhere 5/23/2007

this spa has the best feeling about it the minute you walk in. it is unpretentious, clean, and friendly. and the therapists are the best anywhere. i have been to the big fancy spas in beverly hills and los angeles and i prefer this one over all the rest. i wish i could go every week!! i love getting my own private little room that makes me feel like i am worlds away from the big city. i always look forward to spending an afternoon there! Pros: ambience, great therapists, price Cons: nothing is bad more

so prepared! 5/19/2007

This place not only offers really effective massages at reasonable prices-- they also are prepared for everyone. I forgot my shampoo-- no problem because they provide that...and soap and deodorant and on and on! I don't know how they supply all this without tacking on extra charges, but I dare not ask. It's so rare in this city to get something you don't expect. By the way, my massage was with Margarita and she is amazing. Pros: value, results Cons: my schedule keeping me from going there every day! more

they made me a zombie and i loved it! 5/14/2007

I have never been so relaxed in my life. I am a frequent flier and I like to hike in the cities I visit. The therapist (wish I could remember her name) found a way to ease every muscle in my body. I will go here every time i am in LA! Pros: therapists Cons: none worth mentioning more

  • The Scene
Many primped and preened Angelenos happily spend weeks on a waiting list to pay top dollar for a massage at the city's most exclusive spas--and then there's the rest of us. With its mom-and-pop exterior and mural-painted interior, Brooks is definitely not the most luxurious place in town; however, in-the-know locals have embraced its non-pretentious atmosphere and no-nonsense massages since the early '50s.

    The Services

Available by the half or full hour, these slow, relaxing massages prove that babbling fountains and New-Age Muzak are not crucial elements for massage nirvana. Sure, the layout is not exactly Zen-like (talking can be heard through the walls), but the skill of the masseurs, the serenity of a natural-rock eucalyptus steam room and the reasonable prices are enough to put even the most stressed-out client at ease.
