Good Food/Good Prices 8/24/2010

So this is a great restaurant. Kinda like a large diner actually. They have good breakfasts and large portions for decent prices. I can see why a lot of college kids flock here. \r \r The coffee is nasty and burnt and was 2/75, so I could have gone to Starbucks for cheaper but the food was good, except for the biscuits. Don't be fooled! They look great and are nice and big but are dry and nasty. My husband pretty much eats anything, especially if you can put butter and jelly on it and he even passed it up after 1 bite!\r \r Go here though, great laid back spot, esp if you are on a budget. more

Breakfast was great! 4/8/2010

I just tried this place for brunch last weekend. I was amazed at the selection of options. Everything on the menu sounded amazing! I chose one of the scrambles and I was not let down. The prices were pretty decent and the service was too. I'd come back! Pros: selection, options Cons: n/a more

Great Breakfast! 2/25/2010

Blue Star Cafe has an awesome breakfast menu for pretty much anything you're in the mood for. The omelettes and scrambles are awesome and you can choose a yummy scone instead of toast. I also love the chilaquiles and breakfast burrito. The wait can be a little long mid-morning on the weekends so we try and get there early to beat the crowds. We always stop at Archie McPhee's next door afterwards to look at all their bizarre merchandise...everything from yodeling pickles to bacon-flavored bubble gum! Pros: Great variety of breakfast choices! Cons: Busy on the weekends more

Amazing food and the service just keeps getting better! 2/23/2010

The Blue Star is a great mix of homey and urban. We have a full bar, amazing food and we are always working to improve our staff and guest experience. I'm a server t the Blue Star and in the past two years I've seen dramatic improvement in our staff and management. We appreciate our customers and want them to come back time and time again for the best food and company in Wallingford. We are hosting an Art pARTy on Friday March 5th and hope to see you there. For details, you can go to my facebook page and RSVP at Art pARTy Seaon Opener. Pros: Best Breakfast in town! Cons: It can be insanely busy at times more

""Owner Message"" is full of BS!! 12/21/2009

I used to go to the Blue Star when it first opened. The ""Owner Message"" here says ""Blue Star Cafe and Pub has been serving American comfort food for over 30 years. Located in the former Blue Star Brewery on Stone Way."" \r What a load of crap. The Eggs Cetera's may have been around for 30 years, but the Blue Star opened Dec 1, 1992, and I was there. \r It's not in ""the former Blue Star Brewery"", but what was a tavern for many years. The Blue Star got it's name from Aurora/Highway 99's designation as a Blue Star Highway. It has decent breakfasts, but the service is spotty, as is the food, which actually has been a hallmark of Eggs Cetera.\r One thing that's memorable is that when Steve Cohn (who founded the Metropolitan Grill)opened the Blue Star, it was Seattle's first pub that was non-smoking from the very start. I had some excellent evenings, meals, and beers here. Al, Marty, Greg, Kaisa, and the rest of the original staff here should be hired to train the current staff, and whoever wrote the Owner Message should know what they're talking about before publishing misinformation Pros: Decent breakfast, nice decor Cons: Lousy parking, spotty service more

Awesome Lunch spot! 10/12/2009

We go here pretty regularly for lunch and always have a great experience. I usually get a salad or sometimes an omelette for lunch, have been here for brunch too and always get a bloody mary that is awesome...Oh yeah, and it has the best breakfast / brunch in all of wallingford. Sometimes a line though Pros: great lunch and brunch and cocktails more

great sandwiches 3/5/2009

I love this place!! I usually go here in Friday nights for dinner after work. Rarely crowded, we can always get a booth. They serve great sandwiches and have an extensive beer list. A few summers ago I had the best drink....cannot remember what it was called, but it was fantastic!!! Pros: menu, drink selection, rarely crowded Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

NOT the best waffle in town. Soggy salads. Good fries though. 12/14/2008

This place is okay as far as pubs go and they have an extensive menu. Burgers are slightly above decent and the fries are good. Oh, and salads are not their forte. Unfortunately I decided to rate this place today after just leaving for brunch. I've been spoiled by the fluffy yet crisp Belgian waffles at Julia?s (Wallingford location only. The Capital Hill Julia's serves an awful breakfast). Blue Star touts their ""best waffle in town."" It's on their website at least. This is simply not true. Their waffles are terrible. They're thin, flimsy, soggy and definitely not the best. Not even close. I think they may win on their omelets though. From what I can tell from peering at the table beside us, the omelets and the sides that come with them, are substantial and look tasty. more

Awesome sandwich and cuties working there 8/28/2008

I went into Bluestar a couple of days ago with some co-workers for lunch, nice place with a friend staff (and some cuties working there), had a beer and a pastrami sandwich. Very delicious, I would recommend this place - seems like some of the reviews are pretty nit-picky. more

Terrible, thoughtless service 6/22/2008

Lousy, slow, uncaring service by smug servers. I've had a few bad incidents there, but the last time took the cake. My parents were in town for the birth of my baby. At 9 months pregnant, the hostess showed us a booth when there were clearly open tables nearby. When I said I couldn't get in due to my stomach, she acted like it was my problem to deal with. We finally just moved to another table ourselves. The cream for coffee was curdled, and when we told the server, she brought us new creamer, but couldn't be bothered to remove the old stuff from the table. Guess what ended up in my father's coffee. Isn't it a health violation to knowingly leave bad food on a table? The place was about 2/3 full, but we waited over half an hour for our food. My parents were stunned that this place was supposed to be one of Seattle's best brunch places, and my husband and I were embarrassed. Cons: Service more

Home Cooking! 5/21/2008

Almost everything is homemade - love that! From their whole roasted turkey breasts to homemade dressings! yum! Buffalo burgers are awesome... ! We eat there every week and think everyone should give it a try for some truly good stuff. Pros: Price, freshness, taste Cons: weekend wait more

No pancakes??!! 3/30/2008

The service is usually mediocre at best since they never have enough waitstaff and the food although good isn't anything that special. What's most upsetting is in the blurb about this restaurant it says it has pancakes. On the weekends it does not. Why the heck would you serve breakfast without include a staple like pancakes??!!! Very disappointing. Pros: relatively easy parking Cons: long waits and no pancakes on the weekend more

I agree with ""Hate to say it..."" 8/23/2007

Everything that review says is pretty much true. I have been dissapointed for the last time. I first began going to the Blue Star for breakfast, and it was fine. Lunch: Terrible service.\r I have worked in the Restaurant and Bar industry for over 10 years. I am very forgiving and understanding when it comes to service standards. I know the job is difficult at times. This being said, I am not pointing the fingers any particular member of the wait staff. The problem starts at the top.-Owners and Managers.\r 1- Owners have become complacent, because there is no direct competition. The best thing that could happen would be to have someone open another eatery located where Beso Del Sol once existed.\r 2- Managers are not properly ""Running the ""show."" Why were the other 2 servers allowed to leave around 1:15 when people were continuing to walk through the door for lunch. Our server took waaaaaay too long because he was having to deal with every table in the restaurant(about 10-12, which is a lot for one server to handle). I am guessing management earns a bonus for keeping labor costs down. Keeping labor costs down??? At the expense of me, my time, and the other patrons dining at the Blue Star???- NEVER AGAIN!!! Pros: Location Cons: SERVICE more

best breakfast restaurant 5/20/2007

After trying lots of places, this place has the BEST biscuits and gravy in ALL of Seattle. And Barbara is the best waitress ever. The service is always fast and friendly, (except when you're being seated). But the dinner menu is nothing to get excited about. Pros: great breakfast Cons: blah dinner more

Good Solid Meal 2/19/2007

I had the Brazilian Omelette - it was very good. The hashbrowns are good with hot sauce, I like them a bit more crunchy. Call ahead for parties larger than 2 - we waited only about 10 minutes. Busy! But good solid meal for only 10 bucks! more

Great place!! 1/2/2007

Reading some of the reviews, I'm surprised. So Blue Star doesn't have Seattle's most excellent service, but I really feel like you get your money's worth. They have a huge menu and I've always really enjoyed the food. The beer selections are also fantastic. Throw in comfortable seating and a quieter atmosphere and you're set! My kickball team has been several times before and after our games and they're always very accomodating to our big group and get us taken care of right away. I think it's a great place and worth a visit!! Pros: Great for groups, huge menu, good beer selection Cons: Parking more

Hate To Say It........... 10/22/2006

I have long been a customer of the Blue Star, and it has slowly deteriorated in it's service. The food quality is still there, but the service staff is just terrible and I am sad that I finally have thrown in the towel and will not return. The last several times I have gone there I have been hoping for a better experience, unfortunatley each time has proved to be worse than the time before. I think the managers should seriously consider customer service training for their staff...they have no clue how to treat the people that come in and support this restaurant. Cons: terrible, uncaring wait staff more

atrocious 6/23/2006

Words cannot describe how bad the service was when my family dined at Blue Star on a slow early evening. The waiter seemed sedated. He knew nothing about beers either- after learning they were out of the beer I had ordered, I asked him what other ales they served. He informed me that ""All of the beers are ales"", which was not true. The restaurant was out of most of their ""specials"", although it was 5pm, and we were not informed of this until well after we placed our order. Whole orders were forgotten, and by the time some of the party got their dinners, the other half had finished. The worst part was that the waiter was clearly not fit to be serving the public. If I hadn't been with extended family, I would have insisted that we not stay past the first drink order. Truly- McDonald's would have been a more enjoyable experience, and would have been a heck of a lot faster. more

Had a great brunch at Blue Star, our order was delivered surprisingly quick, the food was fresh and tasty, it was a great find, we stubbled across it on an early Sunday afternoon and hope to stumble from the bar one night from sampling their long list of microbrew. Check out the Blue Star if you're looking for really good American food and a and lovely late breakfast! Pros: fresh great food, great service, fun atmosphere more
