Editorial review from Citysearch 8/22/2012

Went the night of August 20th, kind of a cool place but the service really stinks. The waiter would disappear and they were not busy at all. I don't know what he was doing. He brought half of the food for us and then the rest of it about 15 minutes later, and one was just a salad. of course we waited for everyone to get their food which left it kinda cold when we did eat. Had the Ribeye steak-don't waist your money on that, no flavor. took forever to get out of there because our waiter kept disappearing. IF I do go back, it won't be to eat. more

Some of the best beer in the country 2/1/2012

This place is absolutely awesome! I go in here all the time with friends and family and they want to go back frequently. First off, the beer is unbelievably good. Take some time and talk to one of the brewers or owners and you'll find out that Blackstone is one of the most award winning Breweries in the entire country. They have 7 Great American Beer Festival Awards for 1 of their beers alone!!!! Beer snobs will know how big of a deal this is. This place is winning awards for several of their beers at the largest beer competitions in the world and it's right here in Nashville. Get a beer sampler and try all that they have to offer. Everything they make is true to style and delicious. Their food is also great, its kind of like upscale English style pub food. Fish and chips are the best in Nashville, and their shepherd's pie is better than what you get in Scotland. Pizzas are great, Pretzels are hot, soft and delicious. They have really good salads and their artichoke dip and wings are crazy good. There really isn't anything I don't like at this place except the vegetarian lasagna and I don't like that anywhere. This Place is local and they have been serving great food for years. They have the absolute best beer in Nashville and some of the best beer in the country. All around amazing place!! more

AWESOME all around! 9/26/2011

This place is simply great. I live nearby and go there ALL the time. The beer is great, and the food is too. Try the BBQ Chipotle pork with the gouda grits! SO GOOD! Also the yellowfin tuna sandwich is also great. (I would recommend skipping the pizza though.) The servers are all laid back and friendly, and I have yet to have a bad experience there. Good beer, good food, good atmosphere, and you just can't beat a stand-alone restaurant in days of mediocre chains. Bring your friends! more

GREAT BEER... Skip the food. 7/4/2011

We love microbrewed beer. This place brews some really good beer. The food.... Not so much. We were on our way to a concert and wanted a quick bite and a brew. I had a boring and bland pizza and my wife had shephards pie that tasted like a frozen dinner. Go for the beer, not the food. more

Good Beer !!! 10/4/2010

The beer was good, the service was good, the food was so-so. What I found amusing is that as I was leaving I saw a sign which had a a picture of a handgun with a circle and a slash. There I was having lunch with a loaded .45 caliber ParaOrdnance on me not knowing that the Blackstone Brewery hated the 2nd Amendment. Good thing I wasn't drinking. I will never go in there again. more

Great food, great beer, great service! 6/21/2010

The food was excellent, and very well presented. The micro-brewed beers were just incredible! Our server was awesome. Everything was also very reasonably priced. Great experience! Pros: Excellent choice of beers and wine more

What a Brewpub should be!! 10/24/2008

I would like to segment out this review in 2 separate categories. This is a brew pub and they brew their own beer so the first category is beer. The second is food. I am a seasoned traveler and homebrewer. \r \r The beer is all a brewpub should be. Each beer I had was delivered with the perfect head with no smell or hint of stale beer lines. Being a homebrewer myself I know it's a challenge to keep all beer lines and parts perfectly clean. From experience I can tell this beer was delivered in clean lines with the right amount of carbonation.\r \r The seasonal SAISON was just a treat. I could spend 3 paragraphs on this but I won't. It was truly a treat to drink. The RED ale was my personal favorite for everyday drinking. I tasted a harvest brew which was also great to drink. My least favorite was the lighter pale ale. I'm not a fan of lighter ales but this was a far better tasting light ale than what I'm used to. You can't go wrong with any beer, they are all good.\r \r I am very particular about my bar food. Good beer deserves the best company of good eats. I ordered three items on 2 separate days. Consistency was perfect as each day I tried the tasty appetizers they were exactly the same. The wings are some of the best wings I've ever had. The heat is enough to cause a sniffle and the flavor is extremely balanced. There is a hint of butter balanced with the spice. The wings were served hot without burning them. The sauce was drizzeled over each wing coating each wing with just the right amount of sauce. \r \r The artichoke spinach dip is flat out one of the best I've ever had. Just order it.\r \r The pizza has a thin crust that appears to be burned or charred on the bottom, or so I thought. The crust is phenomenal. It is crispy with small grains of flavor cooked on the bottom. The cheese and toppings were the perfect balance with either pesto or red sauce, both which are great.\r \r Service was great both with Amy and another fine gent bartender. Pros: Beer, Food, Service Cons: I didn't find any more

Best Brew in Nashville-You must go! 7/20/2008

My husband and i go here quite often and are NEVER dissapointed. The service is great and the food is awesome! If you are a BEER lover this place is for you.The brick oven pizzas' are ""highly recommended"" and so are the ale rings.Their variety of Ale and Lager complement the food quite well.Very nice place for a date night or hanging out with a group of friends! Pros: Great atmosphere, food, and brew! Cons: NONE! more

I love this place! 6/15/2008

I have to own up that even though I'm a regular, I've never moved past the bar area -- there's just been no need! There's always plenty of seating, whether I want to eat at a table, have drinks with friends, or sidle up to the bar. The beer is consistently good -- the nut brown is the best -- and they have an assortment of good salads and sandwiches. My one complaint is that they limit their vegetarian options at dinner time. No major loss, however, as the signature salad is more than enough on its own! Pros: great beer, plenty of seating, polite staff, good lunch Cons: limited dinner options for vegetarians, no happy hour more

Bartenders need to brush up on the social graces... Meant for Boscos...NOT Blackstone.......Sorry.... 4/12/2008

Wow, the beer! Red Ale, right on! 4/10/2008

OK, so I admit I made three trips here in the two weeks I spent in Nashville. The first time was for some beer sampling before a dinner elsewhere. Well, sold! The red ale was about the most addiciting thing since Caribbean rainforest zip lines. Beyond tasty. The next trip we ordered pizza which was really tasty and went perfect with the beer. Third trip was just a hamburger and a beer, but it could have been a cheese sandwich for all I care. The beer here is excellent and can compete with anything I've had foreign or domestic. Pros: beer, food, service Cons: the beer isn't distributed in TX more

Blackstone...you cant beat it. Period. 7/15/2007

I LOVE this place. It is by far the best brewpub in Nashville. Whenever I'm in town i have to stop in and get some Great food and Great beer. Fish and Chips, Ribs, Filet, Pork Tenderloin, just to name a few are all fantastic...especially the Fish and Chips. The apps are also amazing especially the artichoke dip, nachos (which just seem to taste better than most other places and i cant put my finger on exactly why..maybe the black beans?), and glorious wings. Great thin crust pizzas too. Wonderful beer that in my opinion totally beats Boscos and knocks Yazoo out of the water. Its really not hard to see why they've won so many awards for the beer. Porter-Probably the best I've have ever had. Nut Brown-Great. Chaser-Taste like a kolch should but I dont like kolchs. Red Springs-Great amber and one of my favorites. The only downfall in my opinion is they usually don't have very many hoppy beers on...other than the Amber. And i am a hop guy. I wish they would put their AMAZING IPA on all the time, but what can you do. If you like beer and know anything about it you will see that this place does everything right. Food is also Great. You just cant beat it. Period! Pros: Everything Cons: Wish they had more hoppy beers on all the time more

The food is good and ""up and coming"" . You cannot beat the beer anywhere in town! 7/10/2007

Blackstone is above and beyond the best brewery in Nashville. They recently aquired a new Chef, so they are providing daily lunch and dinner specials that have been wonderful and new ""soup of the day"" options that use seasonal ingredients and are equally great. The previously reviewed ""spill in the brewery"" smell is called BREWING BEER! If you don't want to experience hand-crafted perfection, then I do advise against going during lunch hours, as that's when the brewers work. Brewing beer involves a process in which hot lauder, or mash, is madeand this does produce and odor.. I personally, find this smell nice. It can be floral, or, ir you're lucky, they are brewing Nut Brown, which is wonderfully sweet and malty, and just down right makes you hungry! So, any time you're there and smell the BEER BREWING IN THE BREWERY, poke you're head around the corner and watch the guys work. You might learn a thing or two like I did;and maybe not seem so ignorant on your next ""review"".\r more

For the reviews it gets, I don't understand why it's not as good as they say 7/5/2007

I went during the lunch hour. We got seated promptly and our waiter was very good. But the food was just ok and something had been spilled in the brewery and made everything smell REALLY BAD. I've been to brewery restaurants and had much better food than this. It just kind of seemed to be an over priced novelty restaurant type of food. I'd have rather gone to Rainforest Cafe or Hard Rock Cafe and gotten the better smell and ambience and pay for their over priced food than eating at Blackstone. It just didn't give me a good first impression. Pros: Nice parking, Good waitstaff and prompt seating Cons: Over priced food and bad smelling restaurant the day I went more

Great in every way! 5/1/2007

Wonderful!!! The place was fabulous in every way - good beer, good food, good service and good atmosphere. \r \r Give some serious thought to ordering off the Pub Specialities portion of the menu - the food is unique and yummy. The shepherd's pie was piping hot and full of flavor, the steak & biscuits were tender and the perfect amount, the ribeye juicy and full of flavor. I'm told the garlic potatoes were good, and the lemon caper chicken came with a full plate of fresh (not canned) vegetables.\r \r Dessert - you have to try the Raspberry Bash. I would drive to Nashville just to have that again.\r \r Check it out - it's worth it! Pros: lots of parking, fast service, tasty food more

Gouda Grits make the world go round. 11/20/2006

About every month or so I pay a visit to Blackstone Brewery. The chipotle pork loin, served with gouda grits, and asparagus, rocks my world. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Prompt seating, delicious food! Cons: The atmosphere is a bit bland. more

Our Favorite Restaurant before a Predators Game! 11/20/2006

We always head to Blackstone's before a Predators Game! The service is fabulous and they help us get out in time to get to the GEC. Our favorite menu items include Shepherd's Pie, Fish 'n' Chips, and of course, the pizzas! There is something for everyone. Of course, our favorite Blackstone beer would be the Chaser Pale! Also, we like that we can buy it in the grocery now!! It's a party favorite! more

great food, not so great service 9/29/2006

i have been dining here for the four years i have lived in nashville. i have yet to have a bad meal, food wise. the service has NEVER been good, but i accept that when i go.\r \r the pizzas are amazing, especially the santa fe pizza. the vegetarian lasagna is good, as is the black bean burger (not on the dinner menu, but is available). the pretzels are also very good. the mustands are great with them!\r \r it can get crowded, so we just go to the bar and get a drink.\r \r i take everyone from out of town here, and they always rave about the food as well and ask to go back. Pros: great food, great bar. Cons: service. more
