this place is great. I'm a huge fan of ice skating, so their Friday night special is great for me. (something like $6 with skate rentals). However, like some other posters have said, there are tons of people there, and it's really crowded. Lots of people bumping into each other, though most people there are really friendly. Due to the amount of people on the ice, the ice quality degrades really fast (lots of bumps), so it's easier to slip if you're starting out ice skating. It's the closest rink in berkeley though, so i'm ending up going there every time. And for those people who have never gone ice skating...just go already! $6 for ice skating is a steal. more

I must admit: when I heard about the Friday night special at Berkeley Iceland ($6 for 3 hours of skating plut skate rentals), I was floored. I thought it was too good to be true. And to a certain extent, I was right. Perhaps because it's such a fantastic deal, the rink was almost too crowded to skate. For beginners, this meant extra anxiety about running into people. For experts, this meant frustration over not being able to skate fast or freely. For everybody, the overcrowdedness mean poor skating conditions. The management really needs to clear the rink and re-surface more often, just to keep everybody safe. Bottom line: I would\rather pay a little more for a much better rink. more

Berkeley Iceland 1/4/2006

Berkeley Iceland is located on Milvia in Southwest Berkeley. I visited there on a trip with my mentoring program and I liked it very much. It is a nice place with rooms for big groups and lots of vending machines for food, drinks and little toys. They are also very legal in that we had to sign waivers and they made sure all the kids were safe. more

Berkeley ice land arena is a great place to go when you're looking for some good, clean fun. I've gone a couple times, and it truly is just something fun to do with friends. if you're interested in hockey, they also have league/teams available on certain nights of the week . call ahead to make sure you know the general skating hours. more

Ice Skating!! 8/17/2005

The Berkeley Ice Skating rink is just so wonderful! They have family night, on Wednesday where the rates are cheaper. It’s a great place to have fun with friends, lovers, children… basically everyone! There are lessons available for any potential skaters out there. It’s also very interesting because it’s underground! . more

Ice Skating in Berkeley 8/16/2005

Yes, it's true, there's an ice skating rink in downtown Berkeley! It's underground, located on beautiful Milvia Street. They have family nights, which is on Wednesday, with discounted skate rates. You can bring your own skates or rent the ones they have there for a nominal fee. It's the perfect escape for the hot days of Fall here in the Bay Area. They also have lessons for children and adults, and are open all weekend. Rates are $7 for adults and $5 for children. more
