Always up for a hunt to discover a great spa, I took advice on visiting Claremont. The architecture has seen better days, but the pros send the cons far out of sight. I've enjoyed their "Journey" massages enough to give them as gifts, and the Tibetan Sound massage...Mmm. I don't usually nap during treatments (and the room was ridiculously bright) and I was skeptical, but I went into a deep trance and came out to a relaxed clarity; smooth w/a chill happiness. I recommend booking an afternoon journey. Marinate in the offerings of a chill getaway thats 10 minutes away from the city. Spend the day building for the reward; explore the workout facilities(gym, tennis, and a couple of pools), use a shower in the spa, take a bath overlooking the city, taste the restaurants on sight, and of course the treatment. Take many deep breaths and indulge all of the senses b/c they will all be catered to. Whatever you want, tell them, like all great spas, they will oblidge.

Bancroft Hotel is very close to the UC Berkeley campus and is a good place for student's parents to stay when they come to visit their sons and daughters. The rooms are pretty big and the services are good. Since it is so close to campus, it is easy walking distance to the dorms and apartments where most of the student population resides.

great place! make a reservation first. not too expensive, and great for large groups. there are even extra showers! very clean. high-speed Internet. HD tv. microwave. fridge. closet. above a big laundry facility.
we only stayed for one night, but would go back.

I've been to the Bancroft Hotel a couple of times for information sessions and social events. The hotel has a great location across the street from campus and next door to Cafe Strada. The hotel itself is very clean and the employees are very nice and willing to help you with whatever you need. The food at the sessions is ok, it could be better, but it's definitely not bad. The event room is pretty large so you never have to deal with bumping in to people.
In general this place is well received, that's why it seems like all off campus recruiting events are held here. Everyone should check it out.

You wouldn’t know that this Victorian mansion, right on the busy street of Telegraph in Berkeley, would house a Bed & Breakfast with a beautiful garden inside. The rooms are a little small and the beds and sheets aren’t the most comfortable, but the inner courtyard is a great place for a stroll. It’s quiet and gives the feeling of seclusion, away from the busy city. They also serve a buffet breakfast.

Yes, I'm actually going to use the words romantic getaway.
That's what this turned out to be for me and my girlfriend, and we really enjoyed the place. The rooms, while small, are very comfortable, and you get the amount the right amount of solitude for a night or two away. The decorators overrelied on the floral prints, but what do you expect from a place with this name?
Explore the rambling grounds or walk to one of many nearby Berkeley restaurants.
While not terrifyingly pricey, this place is not a good option for budget travelers. They did give us a birthday discount though, and parking is included.

The French Hotel is a terrific place because it’s relatively relaxing and intimate. The staff here is extremely friendly and makes an effort to remember your name. The coffee is the best in the city and pastries aren’t too bad either. Rooms are small but comfortable and well-decorated. A bunch of college kids were at the French Hotel here during my stay.
