Im not an avid board gamer, but I went to Games of Berkeley a lot when I was a college student coming home from school. Its a great place to pass time, because there are just so many different games, most of which are unheard of by even the most die-hard gamers. Be sure to check out this place if youre looking for a neat gift. Or if you think youre a Magic the Gathering master, test your skills amongst others during their tournaments, which are held throughout the year.

36 Year history, 300+ (combined) years of cycling knowledge, cooperatively owned, free classes, free loaner tools, VERY competitive prices (do some research), supporter of many cycling clubs & teams. Yes it can be a little crazy at times (weekends), but don't let that keep you away from the coolest little bike shop in town!

I was going to REI until I found this place and I was blown away by how much money I'd thrown away. Their prices are half what you pay at other stores and the quality is just as good. I've been going back ever since.

They have discounts now and then, and that's the best time to buy not only because the items are cheaper, but because everyone would rush in to buy the better stuff in the morning! One time they ran out of the adidas shoes that were half price in 3 hrs!

Lawrence Hall of Science is a great place to take the children and let them learn some decent things. You get to play and learn at the same time. I think it's a great place to get children interested in science because you are allowed to get hands on and test things out there!

There is climbing terrain along with extensive routes and boulder problems. Available group classes include yoga, performance cycling, core strengthening, cardio kick-boxing, etc. There is cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights.
Locker rooms/showers, saunas, towel service & wireless internet access along with a pro-shop, childrens' programs, free parking & easy freeway access make this one of the best values in a Bay area gym especially if you plan to combine a class with regular gym workout.
Additional locations are in San Francisco, Marin, Concord & San Jose.

This bookstore has a great niche in Berkeley. As mentioned in the other reviews, this bookstore concentrates on Asian literature. At no other store will you find this many Asian books outside of SF. I've purchased Chinese and Korean novels from here. The owners are very friendly and are more than willing to help you find what you're looking for. The prices aren't to bad either, considering that a lot of the books are very hard to find. Their location on University makes it easy to get to, by bus or car. I recommend everyone with an interest in Asian literature check this place out and support the owners.

They have a very friendly team of people willing to help you find the perfect bike at the perfect price. They know their bicycles, and have a lot to talk about if you are able to strike up a conversation with them. The brand names that they offer is also a plus and worth a few visits.

Mike's Bikes has a great selection of bicycles for the family. Whether you want a road bike, dirt bike, or hybrid, they will have something for you. If they don't have a bike for you, they will special order one at no extra charge.
I bought my Specialized Expedition Sport (a hybrid) at Mike's Bikes on their recommendation. It is the best bike I've ever ridden. They also included a free tune up and fitted my bike with accessories that I purchased at the time I bought it.
They let you test ride the bike outside the store as well, to make sure that you like the bike you've selected. They also make sure that the bike fits you properly, and they make adjustments to the bike if needed.
I highly recommend Mike's Bikes for your cycling needs. They have brands like Specialized, Gary Fisher, Trek, and Bianchi.

This was my first climbing gym, so I didn't realize how much I appreciated it until I checked out a different gym. The belay test here is the most detailed I've seen, so you know they're safe. There are so many rope and boulder problems, and I like that the floor is a mat, (as opposed to the the ones with rocks). There is also an exercise area with machines which I don't use very often, but it's good to know it's there.
