There's a reason Berkeley was the only school I applied to: it was the only place I wanted to go. Luckily for me I got in, because I don't think anything else could have matched it. Besides all of the stuff you could say about any college, (like new area, out on your own, etc), there is tangible quality of everything there. The professors there are the ones that wrote the books, the research there is what everyone else goes off of. I'm finishing up my undergraduate years at the time of this review, and my feelings for the school have only increased over the years.

UC Berkeley Art Museum is a great or what my friends tell me a WONDERLAND. Like UC Berkeley Art Museum is a great place to go to if you are curious about art or just a lover of the arts. Their art are very ancient and also modern. The price to go in there is worth it but if you are a free loader like me then there is ONE day in one month that it is free. This is why i love UC Berkeley Art Museum so much since they are not so greedy.

I was SO fortunate to find Sherry Burkart and have her capture our special moments of our 10/15/05 wedding in Mendocino, where she kindly traveled and took the most spectacular photgraphs which will last us a lifetime.
I had heard such horror stories from other brides about their photographer taking too long with the photos, not delivering what they asked for, charging an arm & a leg and I fell so truly lucky to have found Sherry. On top of traveling to our wedding site, only 3 hours away mind you - she took amazing shots and even had all 380+ photos and CD's ready for us within 14 days of our wedding! Sherry was also flexible with our limited budget and worked with us were other photographers would charge an inordinate price and not budge.
Overall, it was a real treat working with a professional who really listens to your needs. I honestly recommend Sherry to anyone getting married or wanting to have professional pictures taken, she is more than worth it!

The international house at UC Berkeley has a decent sized coffee shop attached that is open to the public. The outside area has splendid views over Berkeley (and over the bay when it is not foggy) and inside there is plenty of space for studying and wireless access (given you have airbears). Besides coffee they also serve decent tab beer (sierra nevada) for $3.75/pint and $11/pitcher and a variety of wines.
This is a popular hang-out for many international students of UC Berkeley. Another cool thing ... they are at least open until midnight.
PROS: they also serve beer and wine
CONS: expensive refills (original coffee price minus 50 cents)

The classes are awesome- class sizes are small for many of them, and you really get to know your professor and vice versa. The classes are a bit expensive, at least for me, but you definitely learn a lot more than if the classes at a local community college. Awesome! Fun!

This little shop has been around for many, many years now and, not only sells products for your specialty baking needs, but gives classes on cake decorating and candy making. It is truly a unique store and the people running it love what they do. They carry professional materials as well as materials for the beginner. If you have baking aspirations, this is a great place to get support and learn.

It's very strange: you go down into the basement of what looks like an office building and there is a children's play center. However it has its advantages in that if it is raining it becomes a great place to go (just get there early as it gets crowded). Habitot is small but full of fun for little ones: a full sized space ship for them to explore, a water play area, a crawlers' play zone, face painting and more!
One visit can get veru pricey, but if you buy a membership it pays itself off in 2 visits. It is also very convenient to BART so you do not have to live close by to take advantage of this great resource.

More
everyone knows berkeley as the top public university in the country. it's true. it is. what more do i need to say? i'm not sure, but i'd like to contribute _something_ helpful.
well, people sometimes have said that the classes are crowded at berkeley; and as a lower division student; yes, you may encounter some basic education classes that are rather packed. (to fix that, we'll need better politicians throughout the state, not just in the bay area.) however, by the time you graduate, you'll have gotten a top quality education and experienced so much by immersing yourself in an environment that knows the wide diversity of culture on this big planet.
when you come here, you learn about different cultures, yes; and no matter what your major is (mine was mechanical engineering), that will help you in life. one slogan a particular dormitory had back in my days was "we get mean in the ghettos." i didn't live in that dorm, but i liked their slogan because it describes berkeley well. well, first off, yes, in _some_ departments and majors such as ones with many "pre-med" students, you'll find cut throat competition, but that's not the point. the point is that you'll get a less in reality, in what somewhat urban life is like, what the lives of so many different people are like... how does that make you "mean"? well, it makes you a "lean, mean machine" to take on the challenges of life in general. that's all.
all i can say is, kids, don't aim to go to stanfurd. aim to go to berkeley!

Excellent facility, marred by a lack of funding by the university. But during these times of budget crisis and underfunding, the facility pulled through and still maintained a level of satisfaction and integrity. If you love water sports, such as sailing, be sure to check this out. You don't regret it.
