I used this vet practice when I live in the Bay area 5 years ago. I just returned here and went to a cheaper vet nearby and had a bad experience with one of my small/older dogs so I decided to remain with them for my pets' care. This incident which could have been detrimental to my pet made me realize that you can't skimp on your pets' care as it could cost their life. They are more expensive than other vets in the area however I feel I can entrust my pets' well being with them especially after the aforementioned incident with another vet. Hours are conveient and they have several specialists on staff.

University Veterinary Hospital is located on University Ave close to the freeway. Most people choose their vets based on proximity, because when your cat snarfs some string, you want to get that taken care of ASAP. If you're in the West Berkeley area, this is a very good facility for your pets. The vets and vet techs do seem to genuinely care about the animals, and the costs are not astronomical. University Vet also participates in the Berkeley low-cost spay/neuter program. I recently had a feral fixed there and he broke loose and nearly tore up their waiting room. I feel like I owe them some props for being great sports about that.

What a life saver this place is. I had the occasion to need to bring my dog here once after he got bit by our neighbor's dog on a Saturday when all other places were closed. The vets were wonderful. They took care of my dog and immediately reassured me that he was going to be fine. The only negative is that they are expensive.
