Best

We eat here at least twice a month. This is one of the coolest restaurants in Boston! They have really turned the place around from years past---great food and an amazing microb...

Worst

Overpriced food....way overpriced and not very good. Ordered king crab legs and they looked as if they came from an anexoric crab. Fine for a few beers but not worth the $$ for ...

Nope, I will never go there again... 10/2/2009

Good: Food was decent and fresh.. Bad: So many things... horrible service, bad management, and misleading price. Our meal was $55 per person. Many of the menu is "market price", which technically should put this restaurant at $$$$, not $$. At first, the "special" menu on their table sign says this: "Sampler, ($32 pp) 2 LB Lobster, 1 LB King Crab" Only when we dispute the bill the manager showed us another sign that says this "Sampler: For 2 ppl ($32pp): 2 LB lobster, 1 LB KING CRAB". Also, music was too loud.. Improvements: better price, more clear on the "special" items. More prompt service. The waiter was very distracted and we had a harding time getting service. We waited 15 mins before he asked what we like to drink. Another 10 mins when we got our drinks, and another 10 mins when he takes our order. He did not clarify how the special works (see above) which he should have because the sign was misleading and pricing was complicated.. Other: I don't know why anyone would recommend this restaurant. I had a party of 8 and they automatically took 18% for gratuity, that was not stated in the menu. So I pretty much tipped 18% for a bill of $400 for food served with paper plates, brown paper towel, and plastic forks in picnic benches. All of us cleaned our wallets and we STILL couldn't pay the bill. There's something wrong with this. Yea, this is called getting RIPPED OFF!. more

Barking Crab 7/22/2005

The Barking Crab is a crab shack of sorts right on the Boston waterfront - an easy walk from South Station. It's got a great big outdoor tent that overlooks the city and the ocean. Great fried clams and such as well as a good selection of draft beers to go along with it. The menu goes far beyond fried seafood, but the atmosphere is very casual. I like it a lot, but maybe not your ideal spot for a date. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Spend an afternoon on the deck overlooking Boston Harbor with peel-and-eat shrimp, crab claws and a pitcher of beer. It's loud, raucous and everyone has to shout to be heard; yet there's a satisfied background murmur of cracking shells and loose-lipped chowder slurps that you might not indulge inside. The indoor dining room is only slightly quieter and just as casual. Live bands entertain crowds almost daily.

    The Food
Choices are classic and competent: Fried clams, shrimp, scallops, oysters, calamari and fish of the day (cod, haddock or flounder). The batter tends to be a little heavy, but it's cooked so hot and quick that the fish inside stays moist and keeps its characteristic flavor. Real plain, real fresh. Live lobster and crab (not barking, fortunately) are other house specialties.
