Awesome curries, just great. The menu is full but not overbusy, and they are SO DAMN FRIENDLY! I love this...

Indian Style food 9/7/2007

I recently sought out this place for a late lunch - it's in the lower level, so it's a bit dark. The owners were expanding the café to the south, as well as adding some decorative painting to the ceiling, which should help improve the ambiance. The lunch menu was quite diverse, with dishes in the $6-$10 range. Most were similar to Indian dishes I have tried. We ended up with a Thali vegetarian sampler and a meat (chicken and lamb) sampler. The Naan is a bit crisper than the Indian variety, and the chicken on the sampler was good but a bit dry. The Strawberry Lassi drink was good, and a nice portion for the $2.75 price. Mango and banana flavors were also available. Service was great, I'm looking forward to exploring their lunch menu again. more

Nepalese Cuisine 8/9/2005

Annapurna Cafe is one of my favorite lunch places. Located on the corner of John St and Broadway, Annapurna Cafe is a hidden treasure. When you first approach Annapurna you enter a short hallway that quickly descends into a basement restaurant. The ambiance has a little to be desired, but upon entering you feel like you have just discovered someplace exotic and mysterious (also dark and musty). The menu is a variety of Indian, Tibetan, and Nepalese cuisine all which are all moderately priced. I recommend the Keema Matter (minced lamb) lunch special which includes rice, soup, and salad. If you do not see it on the menu, ask for it by name and the cook will be sure to accomodate you. I would also recommend pairing any lunch special you order with some delicious Naan. Annapurna has 9 types of naan to select from. I recommend the Garlic Naan. Wash it down with a refreshing lasee. This is definitely a lunch spot that I have quickly added to my lunch rotation. more
