Best

I have been lucky enough to travel a lot with business and have eaten in many a restaurant in many cities...

Worst

The food is great, but the service is just O.K. Someone needs to remind the waitstaff to come back down to earth. It is as if the waitstaff is too snobby and not enough about ...

Best food in seattle! 5/30/2005

Was just in Seattle for the weekend and Wild Ginger was the first place we ate at and I have to say the best of all the places we ate that whole weekend. Food very reasonably priced and DELICIOUS. I live in Vegas where we have every type of restaurant you can imagine and Wild Ginger matches if not beats most of them. I agree that the 7 flavor beef was the best. Service was good also and we walked in at around 7pm on a Friday night and had no problem getting a table. more

Once again...splendid! 4/30/2005

This is probably my 6th time to Wild Ginger, and every time I find the service good, if not great...and the food....fantastic! Our reservation was for 7pm and we arrived around 6:30. We ordered a drink at the bar, and before it was delivered our table was ready. Our waitress (Shandra) was excellent and her tips made for an even better experience. A must is the 7 flavored beef. I was wondering if the recent negative reviews held any truth....and they don't. Wild Ginger continues to impress and until proven otherwise it will be one of our favorite places in Seattle. Enjoy!! more

Choose the right dishes 4/29/2005

I had lunch here for the first time with a large group and so was able to sample many dishes. From what I could tell, certain dishes were stand-out while others were pretty average. The Thai noodles, herbed chicked and Spice Traders beef were nothing special. BUT....the seven flavor beef, duck, and especially the lamb were fabulous and highly recommended. I'm will definately go back for these dishes. The service also I found to be good and the waiter very knowledgable about the menu. Pros: lamb, seating, atmosphere Cons: thai noodles more

huh? 4/19/2005

We just returned from Seattle and the one place i was told to eat came from a customer that is a chef in a fine dining restuarant formerly from Seattle and as he said ""best food in Seattle"" (I didn't try everywhere obviously, but it was great) - great food and fantastic service. Had dinner with my husband and 2 year old - Jennifer and Rich went out of their way to accomodate and make it an enjoyable meal - despite me spilling my drink (they replaced no - charge) bringing toys for my son and just excellent service. It was very busy - so I was not expecting to be out in 45 minutes, however, the service was pretty prompt - what I would expect from a busy popular restaurant. The duck and 7 flavor beef were great. more

Hate this place 3/17/2005

I just returned from having lunch there and was reminded yet again why I can't stand this place. It is completely overrated. We were seated right away, greeted by a server who took our drink orders and then ignored us for over a half-hour while we waited for the drinks to arrive. These were not difficult drinks to make - I ordered a DIET COKE. When the server finally brought my drink, she took our food order and - surprise surprise - took another half-hour to bring me a bowl of tasteless noodles. We then languished at our table for God knows how long before finally being brought the bill. When I looked at my watch I realized that we had been there for two hours! These people are slow, ineffective, and far too full of themselves. Hate this place. Hate it. more

Really great place! 2/28/2005

I love this place. Very nice atmospere, great service and outstanding choice of dishes. Asian cousine is so broad, but especially I love Thai. They have a great list of wines including my favorite locals from Chateau Ste Michelle. Dishes are not big, but they are so good with unforegetable flavour! Waiters knoledgeble and very helpful. They help you with choice of wine and would guide you through their huge menu. Someone here said good wirds about chairs - it is true - they are so comfortable you are just resting in them. The only one disadvantage - it is very crowdy place, but it signifies that people love it. Pros: Outstanding Flavour, Great Service, Downtown location Cons: Pricy more

One of the best experiences I have had in Seattle 2/24/2005

I just had the most incredible experience at Wild Ginger. When I called for a reservation, the girl at the front desk was very helpful in getting me and my date in for dinner. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front desk by three smiling young women and were seated at a nice table by the window in the most comfortable chairs! Our server was very polite and helpful, suggesting a great wine to compliment our meal and helping us pick out dishes to avoid my allergy of peanuts. Since it was my birthday, he brought out a piece of cake with a candle in it!! Upon leaving, out jackets were brought to us and one of the workers even had our car brought around from the valet so we wouldn't have to wait in the cold! Thank you Wild Ginger! Pros: Great Service, Amazing Food, CHAIRS!! Cons: Only One Restautant more

Mediocre service doesn't live up to reputation 2/19/2005

As someone who makes restaurant recommendations and reservations for a living- I have a complaint about Wild Ginger. What is the deal with the hostesses? They seem to be the only restaurant in their price bracket that has a consistenly disorganized host staff. They are not particularly polite, or helpful either on the phone or in person. One would think that the busiest restaurant in Seattle would make a good first impression by making patrons feel welcome and attended to- not in-the-way and forgotten. Outside of this, the Wild Ginger experience is typically a good one, the service staff is polite, sometimes even friendly, and proficent. Lets not forget that food is great at lots of downtown restaurants, but bad service can leave a bad taste. I have decided to gently steer my patrons toward restaurants where I feel confident about their entire experience not just parts of it. Pros: the food, luchtime, the duck! Cons: service more

not a wild time, but worth a visit 12/5/2004

We went there on our visit to Seattle as reccomended by our hotel, and really enoyed it. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive--he offered to bring me tastings of the two wines I was trying to decide between. The upstairs two tops are very intimate and romantic, and they also have rooms for large parties. The satay vegetabes and mahi mahi were a little bland, but the soups and main stir frys were great. Portions are not huge, and I would reccomend getting one main dish and numerous appetizers and little dishes to share for two people. My only disappointment was that we were looking for a trendy, young crowd, and this was not it. Pros: moderately priced, romantic more

Overpriced asian food 11/28/2004

The service was fine, however, the food there was very close to asian food but more expensive. There are better asian places in the international district where I could have gotten better, cheaper food for half the price that I spent at this restaurant. Overall, I thought that the food was ok, but the food is overpriced and the place is overhyped. Pros: service, crowded more

AMAZING 10/26/2004

BEST FOOD IN SEATTLE! The duck, mandarin chicken and mango sticky rice are by far the mnost amazing things I have ver had the pleasure of placing in my mouth. Top of the line service, ambience and prefectly reasonable prices for what you get. I can't wait to go back. Pros: Amazing Food, Great service, Great location Cons: , Need reservation more

Nice place, that's about it. 10/19/2004

The setting is real nice, I would go back for drinks, but dining is another story. We went in a party of 12, so we had a chance to sample a wide variety of dishes. None of the dishes stood out, the portions were extremely dissappointing considering we had our waiter recommend how much we should order. We also found it humorous that some of the dishes were the EXACT same as what you could get at a casual Chinese restuarant, but it was given a different name along with a heftier price tag here. What stood out from the night was not the food, but the service. We had an unexpected arrival to our party and asked the waiter for an extra chair, his reply. ""Get one from the table behind you,"" those were his exact words. Go there for the drinks, but don't stay for the dining. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: , Price, Food more

Waiting waiting waiting.... 8/16/2004

On my birthday, I had reservations to eat here. Even with reservations, they made my friends and I wait 45 minutes to be seated! To make matters worse...they had no explanation to why I had to wait so long. They were completely disorganized, unprofessional and uncompromising in a situation like this. They also waited 10 minutes before they stored my icecream cake in the freezer. They did not offer anything in return for my inconvenience and simply said ""We lost your reservation."" Very rude. Pros: Environment Cons: , Management, Staff Knowledge more

Fantastic 6/5/2004

Visiting Seattle for a weekend for a wedding, I only had one night in which to try out a great restaurant. I was hesitant to go to Wild Ginger after reading some of these reviews here but upon hearing a friend's recommendation, I took the plunge. The hostess and waitress was not rude AT ALL. In fact, the hostess seated us early. Everyone in our party was extremely satisfied and the food was delicious. Two of my friends who moved to Seattle 2 months ago said it was their best night in Seattle yet. more

VERY Tame Side of Ginger 5/17/2004

I loved this place in its old location, when the kitchen was daring and the staff was friendly. After its move, I still ate there once a month. But I'm giving up on the place. Its food is the same old stuff and the staff is insufferable. They can't answer even simple questions about the food. Even worse, they constantly treat customers rudely by asking if you know how to use chopsticks, know how to eat whatever you ordered, etc. I suspect they will eventually ask if I know how to use a water glass! Pros: Decor Cons: , Unimaginative food, over-priced more

Service sucks!! 4/21/2004

I have been to the Wild Ginger several times and the food is always excellent, however, the service has constantly been an enormous disappointment! We were seated in the bar area and our waiter approached us asking for what we'd like to order, I said ""I was thinking about the chicken""...he promptly said to me"" You ""were"" thinking about the chicken? That's like saying you were (so and so) but now your not, that's past tense"". I wasn't aware that food service included grammar lessons! The whole experience went downhill from there. Hence, bad review! more

Wholly unimpressed 3/11/2004

The menu looked amazing... but! Mango dacquiri was delicious, but had no rum. Mango curry pork was fatty, short on sauce, and flavorless. Duck was tasty, but no better than what you can get at any Chinese joint for half the cost. Lousy food for lousy price. Pros: Large room, dim lighting, big windows Cons: , bland more

Still Great After All These Years 2/15/2004

I have been going to the Wild Ginger for years since it first opened up. The reason it has not only survived this long but has stayed on top as well is because of it's 3 cornerstones: food, service and ambience. Dishes like salt and pepper scallops and fragrant duck taste as good today as they ever have. Service is friendly and attentive, but not too much so. The new digs by Benaroya Hall is spacious and has many options for dining depending on your mood including the more loud downstairs lounge, the more quiet and sedate upstairs area, the downstairs main floor or the always interesting satay bar. Pros: seafood, fragrant duck, service Cons: , parking is a problem, can be pricey more

Fantastic place! 12/17/2003

Overall Wild Ginger is one of my very favorite resteraunts in the city and makes for either a romantic evening out or a great group place after a show. Service is amazing on all ends and the food is nothing short of spectacular. I know people complain about the price but I say you get what you pay for and they are worth every cent! Also you MUST try the duck! more

Go if your desperate 11/5/2003

I was pretty excited when I first walked in because the setting was pretty nice, but that and the wine was about all that impressed me. The food was OK, but nothing to rave about and the service was below most comparable restaurants. The server suggested some greens on the side with my meal order and I took him up on the sauteed mushrooms. What he neglected to tell me was that the side dish was more expensive than my order of squid (10.95 v. 13.95). Finally when I asked him to pack up the left overs he didnt even bother to pack up the side dish. My advice go somewhere else if you can. Its over priced with poor service. Pros: Setting Cons: Service, Price more
