Excellent italian in downtown Seattle 2/6/2011

Excellent italian food and I think the service is pretty consistent. If you come on a busy weekend night, yes you will have to wait, and yes, your server may not get to you immediately, but are there any restaurants that are perfect? Sometimes I read these reviews and wonder what planet people live on for crying out loud. Food has always been great for us more

Delicious Food!! 7/30/2010

Always a joy to eat at Tulio. Definitely not your average hotel restaurant. Food is interesting, with fabulous pasta and entree selections. Service and ambiance were very nice as well. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance Cons: Wait time, location more

Best Italian West of Italy!! 7/30/2010

I have been to Tulio's many times and it has never been disappointing. From the moment you walk in you feel cared for and almost as if you are the only table eating. The wait staff are superb, friendly and efficient without acting as if they are your best friends. Pros: Great service, Amazing Wine Selections, Good Food Cons: Always Busy, Can be Loud, Make Reservations!! more

Wish I had great things to say... 7/7/2010

A group of us had reservations for Tulio a few weeks ago. We were looking forward to a nice dinner and had heard good things about the place. We are not overly picky- in fact we are pretty easy to please. Maybe the chefs were having an off night, but the food left a lot to be desired. My crab tortelli was very bland. My friends sampled it and agreed it just tasted like pasta- no flavor! 2 other friends had salmon ravioli and they could taste the salmon but there were no other discernible flavors. 2 other friends had shellfish and thought it was decent but nothing to write home about. When the food was delivered, we tasted it and found we desperately needed parmesan (sad!) which we had to ask for and wait some time for. The server never checked back to see how our food tasted or if we needed anything- it almost seemed he was avoiding us. Maybe, because we were forced to send back two sets of drinks that were not drinkable. A citrus something and a regular margarita that tasted purely like mix. Again, we were really looking forward to this meal and were sad to be so let down. Pros: Intimate atmosphere Cons: Food and not the best service more

Maybe the best food I've ever eaten 3/9/2010

I am moving to Seattle and was staying in the Crown Plaza. I wanted pasta and salad for dinner so we went around the corner to Tulio. Turns out, not really a pasta and salad place, but I was SO glad that I made my way there. My sister and I had a glass of prosecco to start. Then we shared the sweet potato gnocchi. I think that may be one of the best things I've ever eaten in my whole life. I was a little sad that we shared it. I moved on to the chicken with lemon risotto. The risotto was done perfectly, and the chicken had such good flavor. It wasn't dry or bland. My sister had the TAGLIATELLE winter ragu, homemade ricotta. It was also fantastic. There was plenty of food, and I wish we would have had room for dessert, because it all looks yummy! Pros: atmosphere, food, wine list more

ATMOSPHERE MUCH GREATER THAN THE FOOD 2/6/2010

We went there lasts night for the first time in a long time. Servers were very friendly and helpful, and we immediately liked the ambience. However, beginning with ridiculous little slices of bread and some kind of oil to pour on top of these shreddings, the food was disappointing and grossly overpriced. The lamb shank came, but not medium rare as ordered. Instead, it was somewhere between rare and raw. The server had not inspected it upon being rushed from the kitchen but he returned it to be further cooked; upon his next visit, the sauce was missing! My pasta dish was flavorful but there were six lonely little bows sitting into a yellowish bowl of seasoned butter. Tasted great but left me hungry. They later tried to push the dessert menu on us but we were full from the lamb dish. Pros: LOTS OF DARK WOOD AND BEVELED GLASS Cons: THE FOOD AND CORRELATED PRICING more

Gorgeous Old School Downtown Seattle Italian 12/8/2009

I had the gnocchi at this place and it was melt in your mouth delicous. A great place to take clients for lunch (although you may need a nap afterwards), makes you feel like you are in Tuscany. Great wines paired with traditional Italian, and some northwest flare. All in all, an amazing Seattle restaurant Pros: Gnocchi to die for Cons: very rich more

Good food, mixed feelings on service 4/23/2009

I first went to Tulio's because my sister knew the GM. I thought, how different can this place be from other Italian restaurants, maybe I was extremely hungry that day, but I really enjoyed the food. I've been back a couple more times and the food has been great each time. Pros: good food Cons: crowded more

Rip off! 2/23/2009

We went to Tulio for Valentines day ('09) and were disappointed. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. The food was not that great and extremely expensive. For being such a fancy restaurant it did NOT live up to the hipe. Save your money and go somewhere else. more

Great consistent Italian Restaurat 2/9/2009

I have been coming to Tulio's for about ten years now, and have never been disappointed. Very nice atmosphere with pleasant personal, especially in the Bar area. Excellent bartenders with great knowledge in wine and mixology. My favorites are the Calamari and the Ahi Tuna, to be finished with the addictive Pistachio Semifreddo. Highly recommended 4.5 stars Pros: Great Consistent service and food Cons: Parking is not easy to find more

Love this place - delicious Italian cuisine, elegant atmosphere 9/22/2008

We went here before a 5th Avenue Theater performance one night, and it was such a pleasant surprise. I really didn't know what to expect. The atmosphere was very elegant. Our server was very professional and friendly. The food -- fresh, classic, flavorful, well-cooked and inventive Italian food -- was truly delicious! I loved everything we tried. I also loved the wine recommended by our server. more

Disappointed - there are better places to celebrate your special occassion. 7/7/2008

We were celebrating my mom's 55th birthday and a belated Father's day since my parents live overseas and were finally here for a visit. This was the last day of their trip and was meant to be a very special occassion. The staff knew of the celebration (thru Open Table reservation + the waiter actually confirmed what we were celebrating!) yet, did nothing special for us. Why indicate you want to know about a special event if you do nothing about it? The gnocchi and my mom's main course (the salmon Ravioli) were wonderful. But my husband's Tagliatelle was almost tasteless and my veal chop was overcooked. The veal was supposedly stuffed with mozarella, but we didn't see much cheese. For the most expensive item on the menu and a Chef's speciality, we were very disappointed. The waiter didn't seem to notice (or care?) that more than half of my dish remained uneaten after him making such a big deal about what a great dish it was. Being that half the food we received was sub-par, I doubt we will be returning. It's a shame too because the rest of the restaurant was quite nice - cute place, not too noisy, fairly gracious staff. But none of that matters if you don't enjoy the food you are spending your hard-earned money on. Much less the embarrasment that this was the ""nice"" restaurant I took my parents to. It's not like we could do a ""do-over"" and go somewhere different later in the week since it was their last night in town. I shouldn't have to apologize to my guests for the restaurant's shortcomings. more

Love it! My favorite place to dine! 2/10/2008

The food is phenominal. Every bite I take is like magic in my mouth. When I want to try something new I do it here. I know it will cooked the best. The prices are very reasonable for dinner. Have a drink in the bar, it is memorable. Pros: Food, prices Cons: I live too far away! more

You can never go wrong with Tulio, Seattle is lucky to have this Gem! 11/28/2007

I have been a loving patron of Tulio since the days of when Seattle was a beginning culinary powerhouse as well as the grunge capital. In the many years I have dined there I have never had a less than perfect experience , and that is saying a lot. In my opinion, Tulio is the Italian version of Canlis. Creative menu options, and many homemade pastas show the chefs commitment to quality, A lamb filet and pork shank that both border on perfection, and management and wait staff that show genuine pride in the job they do. My only gripe would be that the last time my wife and I dined there she fell in love with my George Clooney stunt double waiter. Oh well, at least I ate well that night. Pros: Yes Cons: No more

Like a fine wine, just keeps getting better 11/9/2007

I've never had a less-than-perfect experience at Tulio. The service is always impeccable, the food is perfect, the wine list excellent, the desserts top-notch. This sounds a little over-enthusiastic, but Tulio is really one of those rare places that I always know exactly what to expect and it always delivers. Birthdays, important dinners and quiet nights at the bar have all been happily spent here. And great stop for downtown lunch! Pros: Great service, tasty pizza Cons: Can be hard to park more

Absolutely Classic 6/7/2007

This place is exactly what you think of when you think of great Italian fine dining. The dishes and flavors are familiar, but exceptional, and there is the occasional unique twist. My favorite part (other than the sweet potato gnocchi -- to DIE for) is that it FEELS like an Italian restaurant. They didn't spend a million dollars on custom pendant lighting and glowing wall features like everywhere else in this city. It's perfect. Pros: Feels like a great Italian restaurant, and delivers Cons: Not perfectly consistent (but always good) more

Tulio is always on target. 3/25/2007

I agree with exhusky, I've been going to Tulio ever since Tulio himself used to be there, and food and service are always solid. And agreed, 14 years is a long time to keep consistant in the ever changing Seattle restaurant scene. A final thought, if you list free bread as a pro for a restaurant, you probably don't belong at Tulio. more
