The Upper Hand Salon: Royal Oaks

I've been going to Jillian for several years now and she is awesome! She gives great customer service, and listens to my concerns. If I'm having a problem styling my hair then she will go slow and show me exactly what to do. She is great at color and if my highlights don't need to be retouched she lets me know, so I appreciate the fact that she is conscious of the cost of things and doesn't do or recommend unnecessary items which helps me save money. I've watched her train several other girls and I know they are going to be really good stylists too because she is a very patient teacher and she always explains what she is doing so they understand the whys! My manicurist/pedicurist Brenda is great too! She does an awesome job and it's always an enjoyable experience! Everyone here is very friendly and knowledgeable at what they do! I'm in their VIP club and I like it lots, I thinks it's a pretty fair deal! Pros: Thumbs up all the way! more

I have been going to The Upperhand since 2004. Lacy was my stylist from the beginning and I was with her as she trained Jillian, Bryan and Danielle. After Lacy left last year, she referred me to Jillian. Jillian is great! I love the way she listens to my needs and always makes me feel like I am her only client! I have referred so many of my friends and people that just want to know who does my hair! The Upperhand is top knotch! Keep up the good work! Pros: always make me feel special when I come in and always prompt Cons: The drive from Katy is a little much, but I would drive further if I had to!! more

Bryan was trained under the incomparable Lacy and inherited me (and my extremely thick, problematic hair) upon her departure. I can honestly say he has excelled under her tutelage. He not only gives a superbly skilled cut/color, he is personable, friendly, listens to his clientele, and gives them exactly what they want - even if it?s not in their best interest =) And will happily take the time to fix what they should have listened to him about in the first place! I can?t say enough about Bryan, he is the ONLY one who touches my hair. The rest of the staff/salon experience is top notch as well. You can?t go wrong at the Upper Hand, and I wouldn?t trade Bryan for a box of diamonds! more

I saw a friend that just got her hair done and styled and I loved it! She reccommended Sherry from the Upper Hand, so i tried it! BEST SERVICE! She massaged my hair, she was VERY patient, her customer service was awesome, and she was SO helpful at deciding what cut and style was best for my hair. The atmosphere at the Upper Hand is great and spa-like. Very comfortable, great helpful staff. The results were AWESOME! all of my friends were speechless! They all loved my new hair! I had a great relaxing time too! I actually took some of sherry's business cards and gave them to a bunch of friends! I tell everyone everywhere i go! I just moved here and searched online and found Jillian. I went in a little scared but she helped me so much. Not only did she make me feel very comfortable and told me we could go in stages but she also did a fabulous job! I now feel confident and stylish! I highly recommend Jillian to anyone she is talented and I have only been in twice so far but will be a client forever. I had to commend Danielle for the great job she does on my VERY thick difficult hair! All my life hair stylist's have cringed when they see me coming. I was so impressed with the ability that Danielle had to not only cut and style my hair, but the amazing job she does blowing my hair out. She tweaked my color and now it is just perfect! I am a picky person and have had only a few people cut my hair. Serena came highly recommended. She is bubbly, kind, responsive, and actually listens to what the client has to say. She works with you and gives you what you are looking for. She has great advice and is up to date with the latest trends. I recently got brave and tried a new haircut Serena recommended, oh my gosh, I love it. I have had so many compliments. She is fabulous!!! I've only gotten my haircut four times in my life by people other than my mom. I am very picky and have difficult to cut hair because it is fine, frizzy and thin. Serena was one of the stylist I trusted to cut my hair. May I say, I have never been dissappointed. She is outstanding and NORMAL. She is never pushy, gossipy, annoying, loud or vulgar - oh, did I mention she is a talented stylist too? She makes excellent recommendations and ALWAYS LISTENS to the client. I have recommended many ladies to Serena and ALL have been satisfied and are repeat clients. I wish there was an Upper Hand Royal Oaks in every city of the United States. I wish I could clone Serena and take her with me when I move. Royal Oaks is an outstanding salon filled with talented people, but Serena is hands down the most compitent and wonderful individual employed there. She also does an excellent eyebrow wax. Every time I got my hair cut and styled by Serena, strangers would compliment me on my hair. Love Royal Oaks and love Serena!!!!!!! I have been to several salons now; not only in Houston but California as well and Serena really knew exactly what my hair needed. She gave me the best Japanese thermal straightner I have ever recieved. It looked so natural and felt even better than when I went in. This is the forth one I have had and by far the best. I am so lucky that I found her. If you are thinking about this procedure know you are in good hands with her. i had just gotten my hair cut a few days before by my usual stylist and, despite me effort to try and explain what i wanted, she gave me a cut that was not it. I called the Upper Hand and they set me up with Danielle. She listened to me and I explained to her that i like to wear extensions when i go out and my current haircut made my extensions look silly and obvious. She worked with my hair and gave me exactly what i wanted. she even told me to put the extensions in when i got home and if they didn't work she would fix it for free. Danielle is awesome! What can i say about this place, IT'S HEAVEN ON EARTH!!! I was told by a friend that Annie was the Anastasia of Houston she has worked miracles on my eyebrows, and my face looks great due to her wonderful facials. For my Hair, Shiva is the master. She has turned my hair from brittle, ogre hair, to silky, managable hair. These two ladies are the POWERHOUSE OF THE UPPER HAND. They are Friendly, Outgoing, and their service is extremely wonderful. I will not be going anywhere else but The Upper Hand. more

The Upper Hand is by far the best Salon i have found in Houston. My biggest pet-peave of salon's is when you are passed around by several different stylist during your appointment. THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AT THE UPPER HAND. I never have to wait for my appointment, they are always on time even throughout your appointment; you are never there for hours. All of the technicians are a pleasure to be around and the products are excellent. My only suggestion would be to get more comfotable chairs, both wash bowl and styling chair, but that's minor. Went in for a consutation with Jillian (after seeing a lady in the grocery store), and she was amazing,not only did she fix my poofy hair with an amazing cut and styling lesson, she gave me the best color I've had in years! It looks so natural and with highlights that I only have to get done every third or fourth time! I love her and the salon. You should def check out Jillian at the Upper Hand! I was looking for a new stylist one day on the internet and found out about Jillian from here..so I decided why not?! lets go and try her out!!! Im so glad that I did! She was willing to listen to all of my hair questions and actually had an answer for my problems! She was not only educated in her craft but also very sweet! I am now a client of Jillians and people ask me where I get my hair done all the time! I love the compliments! Plus she has an amazing referral program and I have even recieved two free haircuts from refering other people in, which is not hard since people always love my hair! Jillian is awesome! Go see her! I live out of State, but when I go to Houston, at least twice a year, I make sure I go to The Upper Hand on Westheimer. I am VERY fussy about my hair and who does it. I always go to JENI. She is so sweet, caring and what a 'master'. You can tell JENI loves what she does because she does it so well. I never leave there that JENI hasn't done exactly what I expected. I even let her take the reigns sometimes and let her design my hair the way she thinks my 'facial bone structure' will allow. I always have my hair weaved and JENI does such a thorough job. JENI is so pleasant and fun. I promise you that your experience with JENI will have you coming back for more!! Pros: Great service, great technique, great atmosphere more
