Make sure you make reservations... This place is usually crowded, so if you have kids, the wait time can go to an hour if you don't have...

Manager screamed at me 7/30/2008

This place is terrible! I complained about an iomelet I ordered - it was nothing but bean sprouts! Next thing I knnow the manager is over at my table screaming at me, calling me rude! I did nothing to deserve this treatment. I am still confused. Bottom line is this woman is sick! I will never give my business to the Tamarind Tree! Cons: Manager screamed at me! more

Our waitress picked her nose at the table 7/30/2008

I thought I had seen it all but not until last night. Our waitress was taking our order when she began digging into her nostril. We were too shocked to even say anything! Well, we discussed this after the waitress walks away with our order and decide to leave. The thought of eating at this place iss too much to consider. As we are walking out the female manager gets in our path and demands payment since we have ordered food. We explain what happened and she screams at us, ""I no care! You pay for food!"" This is really bizarre. We explain we have zero interest in eating at the Tamarind Tree but she then says she's calling the cops and that we are thieves! We left in any event and even had the manager follow us into the parking lot. This was an awful experience. We will never go back to the Tamarind Tree and you should not either. Cons: Nose picker and irate manager more

Waiter passes gas at table 7/29/2008

we went here for dinner. evrything was pretty slow - getting seated, menus, water, food order. Well we're eating our meal, finally, when the waiter is at our table pouring water refills. He suddenly turns, points his butt cheeks at us, and rips off a long, greasy fartt. He then turns back around and resumes pouring us water. We have never been subjected to such rude and crude behavior - we are speechless. I finally ask this kid what is his problem and he tells me that he ate in the kitchen before his shift and he's had bad flatulence all night. He then wanders away from our table without any word of apology. I cannot believe he did not pass gas in our face without intent as it was too contrived. Needless to say we will never eat at this place ever again! Cons: Waiter farted in our faces more

Outrageous behavior by Manager! DO NOT EAT HERE! 7/29/2008

We had dinner here last night. The food was pretty average but that is not the reason I am posting. No. During the meal I happened to get up to use the Gent's. My business was light and quick and I was in and out in less than two minutes. After about 10 minutes the female manager comes over to the table and loudly accuses me of having choked up the bowl in the men's toilet! I was speechless but I realized that every eye in the room was squarely on me - I have never been so humilated, ever! I protested that it wasn't I who commited this outrage but I am still not sure why she was accusing me as the correct course of action would have been to address the problem discreetly by unplugging the toilet. In any event, she seemed to want to accuse me of causing the problem but didn't seem to want me to do anything about it. What this public outburst did, hoiwever, was spoil the appetite of everyone in the dining room. She was loudly talking about the bowl being choked up with fecal matter. This ruined the meal and people began to get up to leave. We did too but this is when she starts screaming for payment for our meal. I told her she ruind the meal and we would not be paying for it! She now wants us to pay for the others who are leaving as I caused this whole scene! I was speechless! Utterly without words! The last I heard was her screeching about calling the police on me. This was a terrible experience. I recommend strongly that you give this place a miss. Cons: Public humiliation more

Really awful restaurant 7/28/2008

this place used to be a favorite but we haven't been here for almost a year. the service has really gone down hill, really, really down hill. we waited for at least 30 minutes to be seated but when we were taken around the corner to our table we saw at least 4 empty places. since nobody left during that time the tables had to be empty! the woman sat us right next to the bathroom. there were open tables but she told us they were reserved for other people. the three of us sat down and it took another 20 minutes to get waited on. after another long wait we got our food but the noodles were over cooked, the a fish dish was too, too salty, and the rice was garbage. we ate less than half and asked for the bill. there was no break down of items just a total and the total was at least $20 more than what we ordered. i aksed about this but the woman ignored . we left the amount they wanted, didn't tip and left. we'll never ever go back. you should not go here as they will cheat you. Cons: Cheated on Bill! more

Fecal matter on floor 7/28/2008

The food here is no bargain but the problem is that the toilet overflowed and there was fecal matter all over the floor, oozing into the restaurant proper. The manager's response? She just ignored the situation. When some people got up to leave she began screaming at them to pay their bill (the food had not yet been served!) This was a really strange series of events! Cons: Fecal matter in restaurant combined with unconcerned manager equals DO NOT EAT HERE! more

the not soo greatest place to go ever again 7/5/2008

The service is just plain horrible. It should not even be most rated. Number one, they didn't seated us properly, the onwer greated us and went around doing something afterwards and then we had to ask a waiter that was coming by if we could sit outside and so we had to wait another 5 minutes or so and then we finally got seated. Second, they add extra money just because you add some eggs to your plate or more meet. I understand that they are to add extra money if you add something other then whats in your order but we have already said to cancel it, but instead they didn't listen. And the woman who owns that place just looked at us like really rudely when we canceled it. Third we payed tip about $4.00 or $5.00 but when we payed for the food we put 0 when it asked on the receipt and the lady just threw it at us like she doesn't appreciates us. We left with anger and we even wanted to go back to the table and take our tip back. And to the people who plan to go there, please don't...it has really bad service and that the food isn't that great as Made in Kichen and oh Made in Kichen has a great service and has great food. So please take my piece of advice to not go to tamarind tree. -an0nym0us Pros: Ugh nothing Cons: Bad service, not so great food, &very angry owners more

Tamarind Tree Delivers Disappointment 4/5/2008

Horrible service, horrible food, and a horrible experience. For someone who has a lot to say, I am left speechless about the disappointment this restaurant is. The food I waited nearly an hour for arrived cold, the waiter spoke to me in broken english, and to top it all off I was treated like some bum off the street. Pros: The market will decide to close it down Cons: Everything more

On & Off Days 4/4/2008

This place definitely has a good variety of tasty selections. Everytime I'm here, I'm always well satisfied with the dishes in front of me. What I do have to comment on is their service. Sometime you'll get a waiter/waitress that is pleasant, other times it seems as if the waiter/waitress doesn't want to serve you at all (lol). In overall, this place has good food and beautiful decors. My reasons for always coming back is for their delicious food and great price. Pros: Delicious food at great prices Cons: Service (sometimes), finding parkings on weekends more

Poor reviewers don't know what they're talking about 1/16/2008

I've only been here twice, and I may not know very much about vietnamese food, but this place is a fantastic find in my opinion. The parking was a problem - we had to wait 20, 30 minutes for our food the first time, and it was a Wednesday night. My mother and I ordered the grilled pork and shrimp spring rolls (a bargain at $6 each) and the two dishes were big enough to satisfy both of us (although we weren't too hungry.) The spring rolls are to die for! We also ordered the rice cake dessert, which was delicious. For the two of us the price was under $20. The ambience is really nice, with dimmed lighting and candles. We left very happy. The second time it was a Tuesday night and was extremely crowded. We didn't want to sit down, we only wanted spring rolls, and we asked the waiter if we could just order the rolls without waiting in line. The service was pleasant and fast, and ten minutes later we picked up the spring rolls and left. The waitress who gave us our food was very polite and smiled at us when we went. Pros: Ambience, friendly service, great food Cons: Parking, crowded, can't make reservations more

Cold help and soggy rice 1/8/2008

After hearing about this place three times in one week, I decided to go ahead and try it to see what all the hype was about. I called in 20 mins prior to picking up my lunch to avoid the crowded restaurant that everyone seems to complain so much about. When I got there my food was not ready and the man who was helping (one of the owners) was extremely rude. It wasn't what he said it was what he didn't say. There was something about his demeanor that was completely cold and uninviting. Then again, I can't really expect 5 star customer service at an asian restaurant anyway. I'm asian and have experienced many horrible experiences at asian restaurants. By the time I got back to the office I was excited to EAT! Like the soggy, overcooked vermicelli that I read someone describe, the rice i had tasted quite similar. I've had better Vietnamese food. This is no exaggeration, but Tamarind Tree is by far the yuckiest I've had. I'm sure a lot of the reviews rating this place a 4-5 star wouldn't even know the difference between a mexican cooking ""authentic"" Viet food from a Viet cooking Mexican food. Pros: Ambience and decor Cons: FOOD and parking more

Better than It looks 11/11/2007

Even though it's located in an area where it could've been a near miss, the inside of the restaurant is warmly decorated and the staff is amazing. Very friendly and insightful. Pros: good food, good service Cons: parking more

Best restaurant in Seattle 11/9/2007

If you look for things in restaurants as I do: Food, ambiance, service and value, Tamarind Tree has to be on your top list of restaurants in the city. The reason is simple. The food is some of the best vietnamese you can have anywhere, the ambiance is very nice and the value is second to none. The service is good, albeit patchy at times. (what do you want when the appetizers are ~$5 and the entrees ~$9?) I love this restaurant. If they ever improved the service it would be too good to be true. more

everything should keep me wanting to come back, but i dont...but i do. 10/20/2007

Upscale vietnamese is an interesting concept. It has the right background. Asian, a lot of flavor, and exotic taste. The decor is great at this place down to the place settings and cups. The service is attentive and always on the move. Seating is always prompt. Covered outdoor eating with heaters and blankets is very nice. Yet there is something about this place that completely irks me. The menu is a bit ambiguous. The staff isn't as friendly as hoped. The seating a little cramped. And the food...the same at the cheap places on the Ave (university district). So why keep coming? I can't figure it out. Parking is like rolling dice, not hard but sometimes needs patience. The food is good. I especially like the egg pie that comes with some of the entrees. However I would say that the cuisine has definitely been altered to cater to a...more...american audience, one that is familiar with cheeseburgers and chicken p0t pies. The Bun Bu Hue is drastically different from what I've experience from homecooked and other restaurants. I would recommend the Com Tah, cracked rice which is a simple dish. The ginger cooked chicken is good. But for the most part you're on your own with experimentation to get a good selection because the servers aren't all that helpful with suggestions. I would say that my experiences at places like Green Leaf and Green Papaya (if its still open) are much nicer in terms of cuisine, but for decor and ambiance Tamarind Tree is hard to beat. OH the tamarind tree rolls are some of the best spring rolls I've had just because they use very crunchy/crisp ingredients for a different texture. Pros: decor, fast service, authentic vietnamese food Cons: parking, and other stuff listed more
