Superior Moving & Storage

It's hard to know where to start with these guys...\r \r I have moved over 15 times in my life (5 in the last 9 years) and I'm not talking studio apartments, I'm talking houses. So I have a little experience with a variety of movers.\r \r They quoted me $1800 for my last move from a townhouse and I ended up paying almost $6000 (and THAT after an argument with Mark, the owner). Tons of extra charges...like quoting me $9 to cardboard-box my pictures and then finding out that it was $9 PER PIECE of cardboard!!! So a typical picture cost about $40 to pack!! Shrink wrap....extra, too. Didn't fit on the truck they sent....extra for another truck, etc., etc. etc.!!!\r \r I had to have my belongings stored for about a week, so that incurred another unload/load charge ( maybe reasonable, maybe not). Then they told me I would have to pay the $3600 charge for the first loading/ unloading/relaoding before they would unload at my new home. OK, I said. So I had a bank check ready for them when they arrived. They wouldn't take it. They wanted CASH. I told them they could either call their boss or leave. Mark finally agreed to take the bank check...nice guy!\r \r They chipped the corners of my glass dining room table top, ripped the leather on my sectional sofa and then ...the best...a year later, my $3600 motorized Tempur-pedic bed stopped operating. When I looked under the frame, I saw that they had SEVERED the control cords, then spliced the broken wires by hand with NO INSULATION. When I tried to reconnect the wires which had come loose, the control box CAUGHT FIRE!! Good luck trying to get them to pay this..\r \r Avoid these clowns at all costs!!! \r \r They DO have a nice Yellow Pages ad, though! Cons: Worst Company I have ever used!! more

Finally moved after 42 years. This was the big one. Had a great experience with Superior Moving and Storage. The 2 guys moving me went above and beyond . They were on time, took the furniture to the new house, arrived on time and were extremely careful with my belongings. The were constantly in motion and finished the job within hours. the removal of an upright piano and a large bedroom set with desk and an additional bureau from our home in PA to our daughter's in lynchburg was accomplished as scheduled by 3 young men my daughter described as professional, courteous, punctual and obliging.Dad, she said,they arrived at the designated time ,sized everything up ,and in 20 minutes unloaded and set it up exactly where i wanted it----- and Dad, they didn't touch a wall. Please be very careful before doing business with this company. This is my fourth move with ""professional movers"" so I am well versed in what to ask and look for. When I tried to get an actual quote/bid/""not to exceed"" estimate from them, all i got was attitude. They provided me with hourly rates and when I asked them to give me an actual BID/QUOTE/NOT TO EXCEED ESTIMATE they had nothing but attitude and tried to explain that they had no idea how long the move would take nor would any of their competitors provide me with that type of information. Which is false. I would not do business with this company and would caution any one else to be forewarned. Cons: Not professional-Don't do business with this company more

I have had to move a few times in the last 5 years. I have tried very well known national movers in the past. So I was not expecting a lot, with this being a smaller company and local, But I am thrilled to say these guys out did anyone I have used in the past even the very well know movers that I have paid top dollar for. \r Not only where they professional, personable, on time, they worked harder than I have seen someone work in a long time, only breaks they took in the 4 hours of moving was to take a water break. I work hard for my money, these guys don't. I have to work 4 hours to get a 15 minute break, these guys take a break after each piece of furniture they moved, and they had the audacity to tell me to tip them well when they were done. It took me 3 hours to move into my apartment and 7 to move out. I was quoted a price of $400, but ended up paying over $600. Never have I seen such a bad work ethic. The movers were nice enough, but I was paying them to smoke cigarettes and talk to their kids on the phone all day. Marc, the manager kept promising me he'd call me back, but instead he kept blowing me off. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. A coworker already asked me and I said no way. more

During my first call the person took alot of information. Mark (owner) called back and gave me a price with 4 movers and with 5 and TWO trucks. We had moved several times and this was the first time we used Superior. We WILL use them again if we need to move. The teams were professional, hustled and did not milk the clock at all. We had no problems getting all of our stuff from a 2900 sq foot house in under 6.5 hours (15 min travel fromhouse to house). Mark sent two trucks and we opted for the five men deal. THERE WERE NO HIDDEN FEES. Just if they needed to actually pack something and if you wanted the optional insurance, which we did not take. -Don't go by their quote because they under estimate and not by a little. What should have been around $1000 came to $1750. They add a lot of hidden fees that are not included in the quote. They sent 1 truck and it was too small to fit everything. So where does that leave me, I have to add another one. The house was loaded in under 4 hours despite this. The second truck was only there for 20 minutes and loaded. They quote me an additional 5 hours to unload into storage and tell me coming out of storage will not be as much since they load it in a way it will pack onto the truck quicker. They fail to tell me I am paying for the 2nd truck for this entire 5 hours, even though it only took 20 minutes to load it. I have been trying to get a written break down of the moving costs since November 7th. I am told to talk to Tom and this has gotten me nowhere. I finally talk to Tom in person and he pulls my file and tells me he will get back to me that day- this was over a month ago. I also expressed my concern to him over the initial move cost and he tells me moving in will be much less. I talked to Joe yesterday and he tells me the accounting dept has to get this for me. I have been to this place and believe me there is no accounting dept. Is this the area that hides all the cash only payments fromt he IRS or charges a 3% credit card fee?\r ------\r Move in day comes and I am told to check in at 8:30 by Mark(the owner/president). When I call I am told by Joe to call back at 11:30 but again not to worry because it will cost less coming out of storage than going in. I call at 12pm and he tells me they are still loading it and I have a lot of stuff. They finally show up at 3pm and I am told I owe for 7.5 hours and to finish the job it will be $2200!! I ask why and they tell me that it will take until 8pm to unload the trucks. It was unloaded in 2 hours vs their wuoted 5 hours. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. They rip you off. If it took 2 hours to unload why did it take over 6 hours to load (45 minute drive to house taken out)?\r -Also keep in mind they charge extra to stretch wrap your belongings(which I had done anyway myself without knowing this). They don't give you all the info when they quote because they purposely set you up to have no choice but to pay them to do it. \r -They scratched up and dented my new washer and dryer and then tell me they are only responsible for it unless it is broken. My grandmother hired this company to move her from Philadelphia to New Jersey shore January 14, 2010. The movers were waiting for us when we pulled up to the house. They were wonderful to work with, very kind to my grandmother, and moved all her treasures without a scratch! I would definitely recommend this company. more

Philadelphia was hit with a huge snow storm on Saturday Dec 19, 2009...my move was scheduled for Dec 21, 2009. If they did not think they could efficiently make our move happen they should have said so INSTEAD they send 2 movers without ANY moving equipment in their SMALL truck and it took them over 8 hrs to move a 1 bedroom apt. First of all they were 2 hrs late but that I was ok with that because as mentioned before there was snow everywhere....there was probably lot of slow moving traffic because of it.. I wish I could give it less than 1 star.....Superior moving is anything but superior. They claim to have the lowest rate but that is because they take FOREVER to move your stuff and the quality of service is just what you get with cheap rates. Some things they will not tell you: 1. If it has snowed the 2 days before your move, and they don't think they can make it happen they cannot cancel it. You as a customer has to...BUT HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED to know that they are not capable of moving you? 2. If it has snowed or rained ...and you don't want them to dirty your home it is your (customer's) responsibility to throw something on the floor to protect your floors. 3. They came to move our stuff with no dollies....no boxes with rods to hang clothes...INSPITE OF SPECIFIALLY calling them 2 days before and asking for it. 4. The movers spent 45-50 mins just putting clothes with hanger in boxes....not to forget they were some nice dry cleaned/ironed work clothes that needed ironing all over again. Thats the last thing you want to worry about after you are done moving. 5. To move a 1 bedroom, it took them a little over 8 hrs ..REALLY?? the commute time was 20 mins (within philadelphia - 15 blocks) Once they were done moving they didnt even wait to do inspection of the furniture...like they had originally said. Our moving experience with them was HORRIBLE...i would rather go with uninsured movers...than pay ridiculous amounts of money to get such a poor service. Joseph the store manager told me that it is the customer's responsibility to lay down blankets /cardboard if they want to protect their floors...not THEIRS!! I called mark to move me out of my house into storage area ..I was not sure how much stuff i had but .. it was alot also heavy in weight. My two guys were the best ( i should have done the three like mark said ) but this was a great move for me. Will use them again and again. The three movers did a terrific job getting a 400 pound commercial elliptical exercise machine down my basement, which was an extreme challenge because the basement steps are not straight down.
