It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

I went here for highlights and lo-lights. Can I just say that I haven't been back, and don't ever plan on it? For almost $180, I looked like a plain jane. Nothing that popped w...

This place sucks and has no sense of humor 2/11/2012

I took a female friend there yesterday while I was all liquored up. I looked at their prices and asked how much a facial was. When she responded I told her for that much, I better be giving her a facial of her own (and winked and pointed to my crotch). I got kicked out. Screw them. more

CLOSED? No worries, I know where Robbert is!!! 11/25/2010

Went to my appointment last week and Spa Uptown was closed- Like empty!!! I was very upset and didn't know what to do. THANK GOD FOR FACEBOOK!!! I looked up Robbert and he got me in this past Tuesday at Salon Bella Mia. It is a cute little salon- Very boutique-like. Everyone seemed quite friendly. Robbert did his magic as always! If you're looking for him ladies... You'll find him there. more

ROBBERT with 2 B's RULES!!! 11/2/2010

So I went to another salon and was completely disgusted by the language and practices there... I am not a prude, but hearing about vulgar sex shouted across the floor was not my cup o' tea. As I was reading through the other reviews about this den of iniquity, I saw a name with rave reviews attached to it. "Robbert." I had just had my haircut, but had been toying with the idea of dying some of the grays away and thought... who is this Robbert. I saw one of the commenters say he was at Spa Uptown so I came to this citysearch and saw all the raves about him. Well, IT IS ALL TRUE!!! My hair has never ever looked so beautiful! He even reshaped the so-so cut I had just had. Now, I have to be honest, I was a little skeptical because- while Robbert is a VERY attractive man- he has a green mohawk. I was nervous for a moment until we began the consultation. He listened to every single word. He sat down with me- No rush and he was completely confident and at ease- which made me feel the same. He made me laugh- a lot! We talked hair, but we also talked about life and music and passion. He is an intensely deep and intelligent man. And the one thing that stuck out in my mind, was his demand to keep my hair in perfect health and condition despite the chemical service I was having. He also explained every inch of the cut/reshape and "why" he was doing what he was doing. I have never had anyone take that kind of time with me in a salon. Was it pricey? Yes, $160. Was it worth every last cent- HECK YES! Let me also add, the staff was amazing there as well. There was a gentlemen named, Jack, who made me laugh and laugh. The cute girl at the desk checked on me a couple of times- as Robbert had a cut while my dye was on. I did not get to meet the owner as she was not there, but Robbert spoke of her in the most high regard. I am so very pleased to have met Robbert and I don't just look at him as my hair stylist, after this experience, I call him a friend. Robbert, if you are reading this, you are one of the most amazing and unique people I have ever met and you truly blessed my life!!! THANK YOU!!!! more

pedicure for vaca 8/12/2010

I really was in dire need of a pedicure, i am leaving for vacation this weekend and had not treated myself all summer. I had called the salon last minute and luckily there was an availability. My technicians name was Skylar and she did one impeccable job. Not only was she friendly, kind and sociable, she really knew how to make my experience enjoyable as well as rejuvenating. I will be coming back to the spa when i return! more

WHAT A DISASTER! 7/18/2010

I had been a client at Spa Uptown for many years until I moved from Pgh. I've since moved back and resumed going to Spa Uptown. It has drastically changed. It was once a very vibrant place. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the difference; it is no longer vibrant...it now has the feeling of desperation. All of the products for sale have now been replaced by homemade jewelry and expensive ""artwork,"" and the display cases are empty. Going back to the work area to have my hair done, I noticed that the salon is filthy. While getting shampooed, I noticed that the sink areas have caked on product. At the operator's station, I noticed that the walls apparently had something hanging, which have been removed and the nails are still in place. However, the expensive ""artwork"" has been placed randomly on the walls. which are in desperate need of painting. I then noticed the wheels of the chairs have so much hair around them that I wondered how the wheels could move at all. To top off the appt, I took in a picture of how I wanted my hair cut. I asked Jack if he could duplicate the cut, which he assured me that he could. My hair looks nothing at all like the picture. I questioned the ""stylist"", Jack, and his response was no response and was about to put scissors to hair and I stopped him, as he cut my hair so short that I wanted to cut my losses (no pun intended) and just get out of there. I had never gone to Jack before, but was convinced by the person making my appt that he was the best (she lied!). I will never go back and would highly recommend that no one go there. It's a shame, as it was once had a sterling reputation and it was quite a pleasure to go there. I wonder what happened, as it is nothing that it once was. Cons: Read on... more

Fabulous Massage 7/15/2010

Looking Forward to my appointment! 7/6/2010

Well I went and my hair looks great! It looks natural, fun and flirty. Robbert did extensive correcting with the color and cut and now I love my hair again. The atmosphere is cool and relaxing and it was great seeing some old faces! Thanks Geri, for providing a place that proves to live up to the ideal and standard of what a spa/salon should be (most others are lacking.) I'm going back in two weeks for a scalp massage... I can't wait! I have been a client at Dean of Shadyside for 10 years. throughout that time, I have been with 4 different stylists, my favorite being Robbert. One day, unexeptedly, a friend i referred to him, called me and said he was no longer employed there. I called the salon and asked them to verify the claim. It was true. The stylist that I grew to care for was gone from my salon, unbeknownst to me. The salon claimed it was because I had not formed a relationship with him; clearly management was not present during my appointments. I found myself opening up to Robbert about my life and in turn, about his life, which is extremely interesting. I went to him 5 times in eight or so months, the most i've ever gone to a hair stylist in that amount of time. The receptionist then told me that I would be seen by another stylist who I would love. I get to my appointment, and that stylist called off sick. So now, there I was, on a third string stylist. I lost my original one, the second one bailed and I'm just motioned through like cattle. That was straw that broke the camels back. My hair was colored by one stylist and cut by Dean himself. I went to Dean for years and stopped because he gave me what I liked to call "soccer mom haircuts." I'm 25 and my hair looked plain old. The icing was I had to pay the inflated amount for the services because both stylists were level II and III. So for double to price, I was moderately content with my hair. I was told Robbert was gone and was not doing hair any longer. He wasn't happy there, neither was I. I made an appointment with him for next week and I'm excited to see how this salon is amd if this is the place that I am going to commit to for great hair. If Robbert is there, so am I. When I made the appointment, I was greeted with understanding about my predicament. My schedule was taken into consideration for the appointment time and the staff isn't nearly as snobbish as what Dean's sometimes came across to be. I am nervous about the appointment, but I trust Robbert and the salon definitely made the right choice by hiring him. Hopefully I'll be able to give this a 5 star review after Thursday! Pros: Friendly staff, Robbert, great products Cons: Not finding it sooner! more

Love it, This is the Place for Great Hair in the Burgh! 6/15/2010

I've been with Robbert since last November--the 24th to be exact--I know because it was exactly one day before the third anniversary before my husband's tragic death. Robbert is the greatest. You got a true gem, who is not only passionate, but just really good at what he does, which is make people feel great about the way they look and have fun while they sit in that chair. Since Dean does not tell people when there is a change in hairdresser, I was stuck with yet another hairdresser before mentioned in other reviews, Jamie, only like 20ish, fresh out of beauty school, but supposedly she's done hair for 15 years. She thought it fit to make me a Marine out of boot camp with a high and tight (that's like a buzz cut a la G.I. Jane), although it was not buzzed and she cut holes into my hair. That was 6 weeks ago. When I got my hair done today, Robbert got me right back on track where I like to be, the color looks gorgeous like a Twix bar with a glossy chocolate and caramel in the front :), and the cut is getting back to normal. OK, so Robbert can't make hair appear in a second and grow an inch, but he will get hair back on track. I have to say: Robbert looked happier than I've ever seen him before working at Uptown Spa. I honestly believe that if you give employees some form of ownership by letting their voices be heard in your business decisions, you create an abundance of joy and great passion for the business you're running. You are doing so at Uptown Spa, and I could see that. Even the receptionist, whom I know from Dean, but I don't know her name, looked a million times happier!!! You're lucky to have these guys; take great care of them, because I know I will be a return customer and tell everyone (did I mention that I have about 100 students every semester and work with lots of instructors and professors who comment on my hair all the time--great advertisement!!!!), where I get my gorgeous hair from. I might even treat myself to a spa treatment out of the ordinary, which is something I have not done in decades, because your spa looks very inviting, and the girl that showed me around was absolutely great! I even had customers commenting on how great my hair looked today; that has never happened to me at Dean or anywhere else. People do that only when they feel they get the same or they know they will get the same. Obviously, you're on the right track. I wish my hair was an inch longer, but it wasn't today to start with; at least I can now do things with my hair that I couldn't do before and it is really cute. The cut and color 6 weeks ago (which, did I mention it enough? I got at Dean of Shadyside!!!) WAS awful. Today my color is absolutely radiant and flawless. I'm easy on the length; it'll grow to where it needs to be in a month, and it was nobody's fault at Uptown Spa :). This is the place to go for a great haircut and color in the Burgh. It's worth every penny and you get a serene and fun experience--actually you get the experience you're looking for no matter what. Let go of pretentious salons and have some fun with your hair, ladies!!! You only live once and you deserve the best! Pros: Robbert and all the staff, just EVERYTHING Cons: NONE more

Thanks for the heads up. 5/9/2010

UPDATE: Thank you to classylady for letting us know where our Robbert is!!! Having showed up at Spa Uptown only to find the doors closed was frustrating and sad, but what is more sad was trying to find my Robbert! as classsylady posted, he is at the Bella Mia Salon!!! Robbert did an amazing job as always. My highlights look amazing and the cut... FLAWLESS! Robbert, I love you, but you must stay put! ORIGINAL POST: I was with hair stylist, Robert, at another salon for about eight months. When I went to the other place for my last appointment, I was told that Robert was no longer in the hair business. Wrong! He just went to another salon- And what a salon he found! This place is gorgeous. Light and airy and with the most amazing staff ever! I was used to walking in to the previous salon and dealing with an overworked front desk personnel, snotty staff and feeling tension . I walked in to Spa Uptown and the feeling of peace and tranquility washed over me. The darling little red head at the desk was bubbly and all smiles. She buzzed Robert and he came around the corner to meet me. I was ELATED!!! Robert gave me a hug and a short tour of the salon and I was just blown away! GORGEOUS! Robert did his magic as always, but this visit, he was so much more relaxed and calm. He told me how the salon supports him and his many talents and that they give him encouragement. I am so happy Robert has found this gem! He seems to be in his element . The only downside, which isn't a real big deal, parking was little difficult... A few extra bucks in the Marriot's parking garage. But it was worth it to be in a wonderful atmosphere and to see Robert again! Recently, I was told that clients do not have relationships with their stylists, but with the salon they frequent. What a bunch of hogwash! I have a very strong relationship with my stylist. Congratulations on the move, Robert! And congratulations to Spa Uptown!!! You got a winner with Robert. Pros: Robert, The Staff And The Spa Cons: Parking more

Excellent Service 4/9/2010

Went with my daughter to have her trial updo for her wedding. The stylist did not normally work on that day, but as my daughter lives in Arizona and was only in for a few days, she came in anyway. Took a lot of time with her and we loved the way her hair turned out. We are all having our hair and make-up done there the day of the wedding. The salon is very clean and bright. Employee's were all so nice. Would highy recommend Spa Uptown. Pros: Location Cons: pricey more
