updated my old analog system 2/24/2009

Brett came out and updated my old analog wireless montioring device. He even showed me where the old unit (installed circa 1980) really wasnt even working since about four months ago when the companies shut down their analog stuff and made everyone switch to gsm. Nobody from my old company even bothered to tell me but they sure had no problem cashing my check each month! I'm very satisifed with these guys and would highly recommend them as they seem to really know what they are doing. The gsm thing is much faster too when you trip your alarm. Everyone on my airline's employee blog said they were the way to go. I like the wireless option so I can get rid of my phone line that I never use. Pretty neat. They took great care of a very complex problem 2/13/2009

I have had ADT for years now and I got their name off of Frisco OnLine where they got glowing reviews. I have had a chronic problem with my siren making a faint noise for months now and couldnt get the other company to acknowlege it! Turns out, Matt my tech from Smith Thompson fixed it in about twenty minutes simply by replacing a small resistor in then panel, that was it! Unbelievable. I'm a techie myself and I couldnt even figure it out. I happily would recommend these guys since I love the cellular link to their monitoring station and I think that is important these days since burglars are much smarter. I'm amazed my last company couldnt remedy such a simple problem plus the wanted to charge me a fortune just to come out. The wife is a member of Angie's List so thats where I got there name. So far I'm pleased. I read a few of the reviews and one or two of the negative ones and being a little suspicous of these anonymous review sites, I probably put a little more 'stock' in real sites like Angie's. Seems like the negative ones where just an attack on the owner personally but the tech who came to my house was real nice and it only took him about an hour to hook me up to the wireless cellular monitoring service plus their monitoring is in Plano, not Bombay. Like that too. Prices are excellent too. Can't complain, I'm sold. Pros: Angie's List gives them a straight A Cons: None so far more

Unusually nice sales guy 1/28/2009

Watch out for 'auto renewal' contracts! Ryan, my rep at Smith Thompson warned me about them and sure enough, when I called to cancel my old company that I signed up with when we bought a new house, they told me I still had three months to go on a contract that I signed over six years ago... unbelievable! Ryan was nice enough to give me two free months (unsolicited and I appreciate that) to help take the sting out of it. Unusually nice gesture and I won't forget it. Cell unit solved my Vonage phone problem 1/18/2009

I recently set off my system (Brinks) and found out I wasnt even monitored!! Nobody told me that the internet phone things WILL NOT WORK with alarm systems. My coworker recommended Smith THompson and their slick cell Uplink thing. Really a good thing. Total cost was about $ 89 to totall swap out my old Brinks panel (took about an hour) Brian, my technician was very friendly and got me checked out on the system no problem. I would totally recommend this thing for anybody whether you have a 'real' phone line or not. Plus Brian showed my the box on the side of my house where the intruder can just cut the line anyway? What good is that?? Beware, if you have switched phone deals, your alarm may not work! Don't say I didnt warn you. Call em. Very 'kind' company 1/8/2009

Ordinarily I wouldnt recommend my own mother on these things but this time I felt compelled! I signed up for Smith Thompson service and at no fault of them, I called to cancel my service with Brinks and they informed me that they had rolled my contract over for another year or 'auto renewed' me without my consent!! HOT is an understatement. I talked to Lynda at Smith Thompson and very kindly told me I could get my entire money back. SHE DIDNT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME, IT WAS MY FAULT! I felt like a heel for doing this to them but dang, they were nice and very understanding. I will definitely call them back in 8 months when I can get out of my other 'contract'. Buyers beware, watch out for those obnoxious auto renewing contract, Live and learn. Highly recommend this company. more

cool deal 1/6/2009

The officers in the Crime Prevention dept at Richardson PD kind of discreetly gave us their name. They really arent supposed to do that he said but Smith Thompson is who most of them use in their own homes and seem to really like them. I did some research and found out they really are a pretty good deal with the no contract deal and no fun and games with the prices. I don't like surprises! Conversion from ADT was easy and I like this company. Pros: Easy switchover from my other alarm company Cons: not any more

Prices and service are fantastic 1/6/2009

Their month to month contract is a nice break from the usual BS you have to deal with not to mention those blasted 'auto renewals' where they automatically renew your contract without you even knowing it!! SmithThompson switched me to their wireless cellular thing for monitoring and i'm dumping the land line. I will definitely use them again when (if ) I ever sell my house. I guess some people have had problems, but I have not. This is my second house that has been done by Smith Thompson, and have always liked them. Whether it's been response time or service issues, it's always been resolved quickly. If I do ever have an issue similar to these other people, I can just cancel because there is no contract. Their service may be a few $'s cheaper, but remember it?s your safety and life. When they came to set up my system, they broke it, and then claimed it was broken even before they came. Like I, the home owner, would not know. So they replaced a part. As it turned out, my previous alarm contract had an auto-renewal clause, so I called ST to cancel my service. The sales person was extremely rude, and although the contract did not say so, he quoted a trip charge to disconnect the service. I was OK with that, since this takes time and gas. Nothing in the contract mind you, I thought I was being a good citizen. Pros: Learn a good life lesson - If it's too good to be true, it's probably not true Cons: Need any more? I had a very bad experience with this outfit - the trouble started with the installation. One of the owners showed up (Smith or Thompson?) - he was pretty surly and made no attempt to show any appreciation for my business. After he left, some zones in my alarm system stopped communicating withe the central unit; repeated calls did not produce any results. Cool wireless alarm monitoring with no land line! 5/30/2008

This is way cool alarm monitoring! I dropped my land line after the guys at Smith Thompson switched me to Cellular monitoring. Plus the bad guys can't cut my telephone line on the side of my house. By the way, I used to work with jkt517 who posted the ugly comments about Smith Thompson and this is soooooo not what happened!!!!! Turns out they had a lightning strike which destroyed the system and some other stuff in the house too and they didnt want to pay to repair the alarm, PLUS they never paid their bill either which probably accounts for why there was not response. I actually found out about Smith Thompson from her mouthing at the office and I love them! The price is great and there is no long term contract and their response is literally seconds after my alarm is tripped. Couldnt be happier. Non-Monitored Security Systems 3/26/2008

Beware if you have the wireless monitoring system. It appears ST's wireless monitoring equipment is not all that great. Just found out my system has not been monitored for the last six months, at the very least. This was when the alarm first tripped and I rec'd no call. Last week, when it tripped, I still did not receive a service call. Today, when still no call came after it tripped again, I called them. To make a long story short, the supervisor on duty tells me ""you need to let us know when it's not working so we can fix it"". How am I to know when the system is broke, so that I may call the people who are paid to monitor the system, to come and fix it?? In the end, I asked for the refund of the last six months of service since obviously no service was provided. She tells me I must speak to Mark, the owner. Within minutes, I receive a call from him. I was shocked at his abrupt attitude. I must say, for someone who's the owner of a company, he sure is lacking in customer service skills. Never asked my side of the story, no attempt at placating the customer; just appallingly rude and arrogant. His end response to me was ""If you want to cancel that's fine. I understand. Just know that if we determine that the equipment is non-functional due to weather, you will not be refunded your deposit"". When I informed him that I would be reporting this to a consumer advocacy group, he raised his voice! That was it. I thanked him for this time and his attempt at customer service, and that he shall be hearing from them soon., As a side note, he tells me that the only time this equipment fails is when there's bad weather. And if it does fail and must be changed out, you lose your deposit, which was not told to me when I signed on the dotted line....shady service, shady company. Terrible Service 3/14/2008

My alarm went off and never received a call from them. When I called back the staff from the monitoring department put me on hold immediately without asking me and after long wait he was extremely rude when he was checking my credentials. Next day I called the Customer service and asked for the owner, I guess his name is Mark. I explained him the situation about his staff being rude/putting me on hold and most importantly not calling me when Alarm went off. Cons: Poor Service more

Best price and fast response time!!! 11/14/2007

Great company! I have had them for 2 years now and they are fast to respond to my alarm when it goes off and the price is great. Plus I didn't have to sign a contract.
