Although there are no complaints with the food, and the atmosphere is so-so, management could brush up on a lot of little things. Non smoking areas should be completely away from...

NOT handicapped friendly! Not Handicapped child Friendly!!!! My Deaf/Blind child who really loves the outside light decided to look out the blinds three times was told by a random waitress not to because they could fall down and hurt him. What a joke they were screwed into the wall like all blinds are, this was just someone on a power trip that enjoys embarrassing there patrons. This is the reason our family eats at home most of he time because there are to many uneducated misguided people regarding handicapped people who make it difficult for us to sit down and enjoy a meal without being bothered with nonsense like this. The food was mediocre at best and I can guarantee non of the 10 people that were in our party will ever be back !!!! On our way out someone who I believe was the manager gave us a free desert for our next trip that will go to waste, what's the point.\r more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/29/2013

My family came here on Saturday to celebrate a birthday in the family. What a joke! RUDE RUDE RUDE. \r \r My mother called and made a reservation about 2 weeks ago and told them we have a Special Needs child in our group, they said okay. When my mom arrived she told them again, as they were seating them, that we have a special needs child with us, again they said okay.\r \r Our reservation was at 5:30 pm, in order not to come during there dinner rush. They sat us next to a wall of windows. My nephew is Deaf/Blind so he loves natural sun light shining in for stimulation. Since we were seated next to all the windows he lifted up the blinds 3 times in the hour and a half we were there so the light would shine in. Not hurting anything and we took him away from the blinds each time he did it, not to bother anyone. \r \r Another waitress, NOT ours, on a power trip comes over very rude, loud and condescending telling us NOT to let him mess with the blind because they can fall on him. REALLY? First off, If a child lifting the blinds up makes them fall down then you have serious issues. Second off, If the blinds aren't sturdy then why place ANY family with ANY kids next to them better yet why not just install them correctly to where they DON'T fall on someone, blinds are made to be picked up. Lastly, you can see that he is Special Needs and you have ZERO compassion for him or this family. We had other patrons all around us that turned and looked at us on top of the already. HOW EMBARRASSING!! When we stated to the waitress on a power trip that he was deaf/blind and can't hear you scold him, which isn't her place anyways, she just scolfed and walked away. Not an I am sorry or I didn't notice I am sorry.... NOTHING just walked away and never saw her again. \r \r She, of course, ruined the dinner so we stopped eating and just wanted out of there. We got the bills and paid when my mom went to talk to the manager who was JUST as uneducated and un-compassionate as his waitress. On the way out he handed my bother a card that stated One free dessert on there next visit.... REALLY??!! First off NONE of us will be back and we will make sure we tell people we know about how rude and uneducated this restaurant is about Special needs people in general and actually I already have.\r \r Austin has a large Deaf community as well as autistic community. PLEASE do not object your family to this type of embarrassment and pure uneducated hate. \r \r The ONLY thing I can say that was positive about this experience was the fact that my other nephew, who is 9, saw and heard all of this happen, since he was sitting right next to his brother. He learned and saw how rude adults can be towards his Special Needs brother. I am ashamed and embarrassed for this restaurant. \r \r PS the food was just OK. That could be from the bad taste I had in my mouth from the restaurant as well. who knows. more

Horrible Service -- Not for a party of 8 12/15/2008

We had a small party of 8 at the SaltGrass......NEVER AGAIN...... When you have an 8 person party the waiters know the gratuity is an 18% given no matter how bad the service is!!!! And believe me the service was atrocious. First the young people there couldn't understand the party was for 8.... they tried to seat us with 5, next try was for 6 then finally a half hour later we finally found someone who could count to 8. Once seated and the menus handed out....another interminable long wait for a person to serve us drinks. There were about 3 empty tables around us at the time we sat down....while we were waiting for service people were seated at those tables, received their drinks AND their food before the waiter even took our order!!!! Then it took another life time to get the food.....evidentially my shrimp and chicken had gotten cold waiting for the rest of the meals to be made because they saw fit to nuke the meal back to warm....nuking shrimp and chicken turns the meat into rubber!!!!! I had asked for some ketchup to try to disquise the foul chicken but the waiter took so long bringing it to me... I didn't receive it until we were ready to pay for the food. Disgusting horrible place to pop over $200 and 3 hours. If you have a holiday crowd....do yourself a favor and find someplace else to eat.....these people in Round Rock, Texas are pathetic!!!!! Pros: There are NO pros Cons: Bad service, terrible cold rubbery food that had been nuked to warm up more

Best steakhouse around, period 11/24/2008

I'm surprised at the number of negative - or less than stellar - reviews on this restaurant. I've been here numerous times, with my wife, with and without our adult daughter, with friends, even solo, and I've never once had a bad experience. The food - steaks, specifically - are routinely spectacular, the salads, while simple, are absolutely fresh with wonderful dressings. The Shiner Bock beer bread is fresh, hot, and delicious, and the dessert choices are great (if you have room - if not, get one to go!) The choices of sides are plentiful and good. I have found the waitstaff to be consistently very, very good to excellent. I had one minor issue about something - I don't even remember what - on one visit, and it was immediately made right by the manager. Even though I've come to expect great service, it has been over and above often enough that I've sought out the manager to commend a particular waiter or waitress. Our favorite steakhouse in Central Texas, hands-down. Pros: Outstanding steaks, great salads, great waitstaff Cons: Can be quite busy at dinnertime, call-ahead barely better than just showing up more

Excellent! 10/3/2008

My husband and I have eaten here numerous times and have always been pleased. The food is great and so is the service. The Ranger Rattlers is our favorite appetizer. The house salad and chicken tortilla are very good. Of course, they have excellent steaks. If you have room for dessert, I highly recommend the Margarita Pie. The menu doesn't list it has a cheesecake topping and drizzled with fresh strawberry sauce. I consider this ""a to die for dessert"" and my 12-year-old daughter loves it too! Pros: food and service Cons: haven't found any yet more

Great Food, and Fabulous Customer Service 5/20/2008

I went to the Saltgrass Steakhouse in Round Rock today (May 20, 2008) for lunch with six other gals. They got a table ready for us right away. I ordered their Gulf Shrimp and 8oz Steak combo. It came with soup or salad...I had the Tortilla Soup. It had corn in it which I thought was unusual, and lots of cheese. It could have been hotter, temperature wise, but It was very good, and I would order it again. I was given three choices of shrimp....either shrimp scampi, coconut shrimp, or grilled shrimp. I chose the coconut shrimp, broccoli as a side, and my steak done medium. They brought out plenty of beer bread for us while we awaited our orders. We did not have to wait long before we were served. My coconut shrimp and dipping sauce was excellent., however, my steak was well done. The waitress came over to me shortly and asked if everything was ok. I told her my steak was overdone, and she was very appologetic, and immediately removed it, and within minutes I had a new steak which was done to perfection. The cook had even come out and asked me specifically how I wanted it grilled, and he even offered to add some mushrooms, which I declined. He also asked me if I would like steak sauce. He was very, very nice, as was our waitress. I did order the steak sauce, but the steak was so good and flavorful, that I didn't want to spoil the taste with the steak sauce, so I didn't use it. The onion rings that topped the steak were some of the best I've ever had. Normally I don't eat a large lunch, so I had half of my lunch left over. Our waitress brought several of us a to-go box. Everyone at my table enjoyed their lunch, and we all agreed that we would definately make a return trip. Two of my friends ordered the Grilled Hickory Chicken smothered in cheese and mushrooms. They both thought it was superb. It was mouth-watering! Made me want to come back and order that dish next time. more

Pleased the Parents on Mother's Day! 5/11/2008

Considering we arrived at 6:00 p.m. on Mother's Day evening, the wait was not too long (20 minutes - less than quoted). I hoped for a quieter atmosphere, but there were lots of screaming children (not faulting the restaurant, but my lack of research), and it was difficult to hear our waitress, who did a good job of explaining the cuts of meat and the amount of ""pink"" in medium, etc. Pros: Service of Waitstaff, Value, Quality of food, Attentiveness Cons: Noise level, unruly children (part of the time) more

Awesome Steak House! 2/11/2007

My family and I really enjoy this resturant, we go here maybe once every two weeks. The food is always consistenetly enjoyable. You could describe it as a true Cattlemen Steakhouse, from the wagon trail artwork to the food itself. Some of my favorites on the menu there would have to be House Salad with Honey Mustard dressing and Cheeseburger (add bacon for .99) and fries. Or for a steak try the Chop Steak w/ mushroom & onion glaze & baked potato. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Cons: Tight Parking, Overfull with large parties more

User review by scur2u 5/29/2006

My pribe rib had zero flavor and was tough. I should have sent it back but our server was horrible. It would have taken forever. Food was overall disappointing. Server tried selling us dessert in the middle of our meal. My husband said ""we're in the middle of our meals, can u come back after we're done?"" Server got agitated. After my husband's plate was cleared and I was still trying to get through my bad prime rib, the server asked again! Some servers should not bother coming into work. Cons: service, food, quality more

Definetly a must 5/9/2006

I love this restaurant! I especially love the El paso chicken meal. First of all the shiner bock bread is excellent, they have it no where else, I think? Well anyways, their iced tea is great if you like iced tea and you can also call ahead to reserve spot in the wait line so when you do get there you get seated. Pros: great food, Alot of great food, convienent seating Cons: price, time to prepare food more

Cheap price, cheap food 3/27/2006

They say you get what you pay for, and that is soooo true at Saltgrass. I have never been more dissapointed in a steak than I was here. The meat was tough and flavorless, the air had an odor, and the service was uppity. There are so many excellent restaurants in Austin, why waste your time and money at this one? Pros: inexpensive, location Cons: bad food, bad service more

Don't Know What the Hater's Are Talking About 1/10/2006

Excellent Food and Service. We have been there numerous times and each one has been awesome. The food is great. The steak is always juicy and there are plenty of sauces to choose from, but you will not need them. The portions are huge and the appetizers are some of the best I have had. When we want good steak this is where we come. Pros: Great Food, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Lont Wait at Times more

Just Another Chain (yawn...) 12/23/2005

If you like Saltgrass I'm sure you'll love Golden Corral, Texas Roadhouse, Logans, etc. With so many unique joints to eat in in this area why would anyone eat here? Thankfully there are several hotels next door in case you fall asleep halfway through dinner. more

Just another chain restaurant 11/18/2005

Service-BAD...Food-BAD....Atmosphere-LAME. This is just another chain restaurant. If you want a great steak, go to a unique reataurant, not a chain...there actually are a couple in Round Rock....to get a great steak, be willing to pay a little more and research first!! Cons: food, service, management more

Down to Earth 6/6/2005

My boyfriend & I go there often because he says he has to ""get his Saltgrass on."" No other steak house will do when he is craving a good steak & ribs. I love their fried shrimp & ribeye. The flavor is the best & so is the service! Pros: Food, Price, Service Cons: Parking more

Great Prime Rib 12/14/2004

I think this particular Saltgrass has some of the best prime rib I've tasted. Yes, I know all Saltgrass should be the same....but??? My wife doesn't eat Prime Rib, so she ordered the Rib Eye Steak (Med-Well) and did an excellant job. For a special treat, order the margaritta swirl with mango - it was darn good! My teenage daughter order the BBQ Baby Back Ribs and she claims it was the best she's tasted. Ok, I went at 6pm and there was a long wait to get seated, but it was worth the wait! Pros: Food, Price, Prime Rib Cons: , Praking more

Don't spend your money. 1/24/2004

It took about 20 minutes for us to get our salad and almost another hour for our food to reach our table. They don't know how to cook a well done steak! They had to take mine back not oncce but twice and when it came out the last time it was still pink. Our poor waiter was swamped in his section that he was frazzled and kept telling us how sorry he was and bringing us bread. I feel we wasted our money because I had to leave hungry. oh well, we won't go back. Cons: crowded, expensive, bad service more

Great Steaks and Nice Ambience! 1/15/2004

The Saltgrass at I-35 was a great experience. We had Ribeyes and Pork Chops and everything came the way it was ordered and it was delicious. The service was good and the waitress checked on us every few minutes even though the restaurant was packed. I probably will go back there on a special occasion since the prices are reasonable, but it is still alot money for a dinner. We only were 3 person and I even would go there with a group of up to 6 person. Everything above that I rather go to UR cooks. Pros: Food, Ambience, Parking Cons: Crowded, Prices more

Yumm 7/16/2003

Every time we have been the food and service has been wonderful. We always go with a large party and always get the best of service and wondeful food more
