great food and service 6/17/2003

Last week was our first visit there. Despite the mixed reviews we had heard, our waiter provided excellent service and earned his tip. We had the prime rib and filet mignon and both were cooked perfectly as ordered. The only thing we noticed that needed improvement was the wine pouring; the waitstaff needs to be educated on the proper procedure for serving wine. Other than that, all was delicious and we will definitely be back! Pros: perfect steaks, great service Cons: wine serving more

Little things mean a lot 1/12/2003

Although there are no complaints with the food, and the atmosphere is so-so, management could brush up on a lot of little things. Non smoking areas should be completely away from smoking areas-not two tables over. Treat customers like you are glad they are there, not just a table. Waiters need to be more heads up- don't make the customers have to ask for bread or the fresh ground pepper which was offered to the next table. Pros: large entrees, small salads Cons: somewhat pricey, poor service more

Good Steaks 1/3/2003

I have visited the Saltgrass in RoundRock a couple of times now and they have some of the best steaks. They are priced fairly reasonably compared to Texas Land and Cattle. I definitely recommend this Steak House. Pros: Good Steak, Prompt Service, Great Bread Cons: Gets expensive fast! more

Best Prime Rib in Texas? 12/23/2002

My husband thinks Saltgrass has the best prime rib in Texas. I don't eat prime rib, but I can tell you their filets are excellent as are their Chicken K-bobs. Yum. The only drawback is 1) Saltgrass is in Round Rock 2) You have to put up with less than stellar service and 3) there's usually a long wait This is a great place to take kids. The overall din of the place is loud but you can still hear each other talk -- good acoustical design. The country music and decor is hokey and fun. Not fine dining, but a fun place to eat out. more

Saltgrass not to be Savored 12/6/2002

I had high expectations going into the restaurant. I had heard good things from a friend who worked there but she obviously did not cook the steak when I went. I was seated promtply but the person who served us didn't come around very often. The steak was cold and dry. All they had for sauce was Heinz 57 which is like putting ketchup on your Filter Mignon. I haven't been back since and haven't heard anything good either. There are plenty of other places to go for steak. Nice atmosphere is a plus. Pros: good parking, prompt seating, atmosphere Cons: food, overpriced, mediocre service more

Saltgrass is the best steakhouse in the Austin area, hands down! The seasonings that are used are very flavorful and the servings are generous. The soups are excellent also. The chicken tortilla soup is of a different variety than normal for this area, but it is really good. Definitely one of the best! Pros: great food, casual, great value Cons: very busy more

The atmosphere is loud and the service was awful, I do have to say that the filet was great, we might try it again in the late future, hopefully the service will have gotten better. Pros: good food Cons: crowded, bad service more

RUN AWAY 9/3/2002

I know RR has got to have a better place than this place. The service was awful and the food portions were so small I had to ask if I got the right steak. It was over priced and I will not return. I should have listen to the previous review. How do they stay in business? more
