Best

I was very pleased with my make-up lesson. Kami was very upbeat and complimentary. It is very evident that she loves what she does and that she loves her job. I learned alot from ...

Worst

Unfortunately I had to cur my hot stone appt short, however, the gal was nice but the stones were too hot. Hard to relax when feeling burned. She did quickly remedy the problem.

reVamp not what it used to be 10/28/2011

I went to ReVamp for years. I just loved it. My hair had never looked so good. But my last two haircuts/colors were not good. The last one was one of the worst haircuts of my life. My hair had been over-processed which caused a lot of breakage. The cut was done so poorly that I started to have bad hair days two days after the cut. No amount of gel, mousse, or any other wonder product helped. Also, one side was cut a little longer than the other. That last reVamp experience was such that when I went to another salon for my follow-up cut and color, it took the hairdresser a lot of work to undo the damage that had been. I could have gone back to reVamp to complain, but the experience was so negative that I just never wanted to return and never will. more

Totally shocked by poor service 10/15/2011

I came in for my first time as a referral..not only was Revamp dirty and the Receptionist people rude and un-inviting...I got my hair done by Kelly and it is the worst cut and color I have ever had. She did not listen to what I was saying and acted like she knew better. My hair turned out orangey-colored and my cut was way too short- choppy and un-even. I got the feeling that the whole salon could not get me out the door fast enough. I was prepared to spend good money for what I was told was a premier salon and wow! Nothing that I expected. I did call the salon the next day and was told Robert would call me back but he never did. Pretty much rounded out my whole experience with this horrible salon. I would never go back nor would I recommend it to anyone. more

A Welcome Change! 7/17/2010

In the week since my "Oprah makeover," I've had more compliments and "You look great!" comments than I can remember in a lifetime, making my trip from Arizona for the weekend well worth the time and expense. In May, I read Christopher's book over a weekend and called that Monday for an appointment, with a focus on a haircut with him, and a style consultation with Joanne (it's WAY past time to clean out some closets!). After losing my job of 25 years in 2009, I started my own business (I'm 67), and recognized that how I look says a great deal about the company, making investing in my image - which needed polishing, and some tips to make the best use of all that makeup in my bathroom drawer - a wise choice. Coincidentally, I was speaking at a conference last Tuesday, three days after my ReVamp: a perfect launch moment for my "Comeback." The day was a treat from start to finish, from the warm welcome at the front desk to the caring and friendly attitude of everyone on the staff, and even the other customers I had the chance to chat with. Even more than Christopher's cut - a redo of my current style, which he agreed worked well - his advice on how to create the look we both liked has helped me, every day...and I'm inept with my hair, so that says a lot. Joanne's style analysis concluded the day: the concept of measuring your body vertically, not just horizontally (which Christopher explains in the book) makes SUCH a difference in choosing flattering and appropriate styles, and letting go of those that don't work. From my eyebrow waxing with Sara, to Amanda - whose skill gave me the golden red color I wish I'd been born with, to the expertise Cami passed along about foundation, concealer and especially eye makeup (many of those compliments I've been getting are due to her tips!), it was a day that will pay dividends for years to come. The Before and After photos, taken by the wonderful Robert, will be good reminders not to let things slip...and I'll schedule an annual visit to be sure! Lastly, I've loved that my women friends are intrigued by the process, and eager to learn more. Christopher, tell your publishers to get ready for another print run: I'm recommending you, the book and the ReVamp experience to everyone I know! Pros: Warm and skillful team, creating "your best you!" Cons: I live in Arizona! more

Experience of a Lifetime! 7/15/2010

Every time I see one of Revamp's fabulous Makeovers, I think about writing to tell about mine. I came to Revamp in late Feb. after losing 90+ lbs. It wasn't until Christopher and his team worked their magic on me that I truly felt different. I had a sense that what they had done for me was almost life changing but I was sure of it when my hair stylist of 30 years decided to change what they had done. I was so unhappy with the results! Who knew that after a few short months, I could become so attached to my new look and unwilling to go back to my once old and drab hair. After a few tries, it is almost back to Christopher's vision for me and I am smiling and feeling great again. I will be back to have an update in the fall. Thanks Revamp for helping make me a whole new person. (Thanks to Joanne as well. I never go into a store without my silhouette shopping guide) Pros: I was pampered for an entire day. Cons: I don't live closer!!!!! more

Best Salon in Minneapolis---Hands DOWN 7/13/2010

I adore ReVamp. I MISS ReVamp. I recently moved to Austin, Texas, and that old saw is absolutely true: you don't know what you've got until it's gone. It's taken me eight months, and a few major missteps, to find a stylist/colorist who is as good as Carrie. Now if I could only find a nail tech as good as Camille, I'd be happy---and if I could find them all under the same roof, like I had with ReVamp, I would be over the moon. I have never had a bad experience at ReVamp, and I've had plenty of services there. Everyone was kind, listened to what I wanted, and went out of their way to make it happen. I can't recommend them highly enough. Pros: Central location, Robert Cons: Parking-but it's Uptown, there's always a parking problem more

Great Experience 7/12/2010

I've been to reVamp 3 times. Once for the silhouette analysis with JoAnn, invaluable information for me. I don't leave home without it when I go shopping. The other visits were for cuts-Christopher, color-Betsy, makeup application lesson-Kami. I love my color and Betsy was professional and personable. When I am in Christopher's chair he makes me feel like he only has eyes for me. Completely attentive, frank- that's an understatement, hilarious, empowering, and pretty. Kami was a delight. I had never had a professional makeup application lesson before and she was so patient with my questions and flexible with products. I brought my makeup bag from home as I didn't want to toss out everything. She worked with some of my products and included some of hers that she felt were better suited to my complexion. At no time did I feel like I was pressured to buy. I did buy a couple and absolutely love them. On a personal note, my husband and I were separated last year and I really needed a pick-me-up. Christopher was advertising his 1/2 off first cut and I jumped at the opportunity to see him. Had my consult and cut in Jan. By the time I saw Christopher I had been separated 6 mos. and the depth of the conversations with my husband had devolved into who could take care of the pets while one of us was away. The next time my husband saw me he said, "You look great." I thought I was going to faint. The ice was broke and we started counseling shortly thereafter. We've reconciled and our life together is better than ever. To this day I believe Christopher Hopkins saved my marriage! 26 yrs. and counting. Thanks Christopher. Pros: Customer service, services & products Cons: That there's not one in Hudson! more

LOVE ReVamp! 7/12/2010

I have had my hair cut by Christopher, the owner, several times. I get compliments on it all the time. When I went in the first time, my hair was all one length, just past my shoulders. I knew I needed layers (and lots of them!), but I really wanted the layers to look fabulous. Christopher listened to every word I said, and then told me what would actually work for me, given my hair and my face. But the result was exactly what I wanted. He is one of the few stylists that will actually give me a professional opinion, rather than just tell me what I wanted to hear. He is expensive, and he is worth every penny. I am very tall and now my long red hair is nearly halfway down my back... it attracts a lot of attention. So I think it's worth the investment. People ask me about it every day. Pros: Professional consultation, Friendly Service, Excellent Cut Cons: Parking can be tricky in Uptown, Need to book appts early! more

Not sure what to think...not at all what I expected 2/15/2010

I was so excited to go have a lovely facial and a hair makeover. I've been reading about this salon for a few months and growing my hair out so there would be plenty to work with. I went with a friend and we both had facials and cuts, and I also had color. The first impression that both of us had was that the place was just not clean. Granted it's winter and people drag stuff in on their shoes, but the whole salon looked unkempt, messy, dirty, and like it needs a good scrubbing and remodeling. It's an old building in Uptown, granted, but it's still supposed to be a sanctuary for customers. My facial was first, and started off wrong....the table was very high and there was no stool to help me get on it. I'm on the short side, so it's difficult to have to climb on a table that is almost at chest height. Well, I had to try to get up on it......with no stool. The only chairs in the room had wheels, and that on a tile floor, is an accident waiting to happen. Oh, wait! I did have an accident...as I climbed up on the too-high table, the table—which also is on wheels—was not locked and flew right out from under me, spun around and threw me to the floor against the esthetician's stool and the wall. I have huge bruises and cracked my knees, and was more than a little shook up. Because it was such a long way from table to floor, I hit pretty hard. I feel like I've been in a car accident. I told the esthetician right away, and the front desk staff at the end of my services. They said, "oh, gee...sorry. Are you ok?" all with smirks on their faces, trying to not laugh. The facial itself was ok...I've had much better. Nothing bad or anything to complain about, but certainly not memorable or anything to return for. My hair cut is ok, and the color is good. I was sort of surprised by the sloppiness and messiness of all of the stylists I saw. None of them seemed to care too much about the customers, but were more interested in what the others were doing. A couple of them even seemed to have "mean girl" attitudes. All-in-all, not a very pleasant, relaxing or good experience. I left feeling like "what just happened for my $400+ in services?" Too bad that this was a place recommended by a friend. It sure doesn't live up to it's hype. :-( more

Best haircut and color EVER 4/18/2009

Kelly is my stylist. She listened to my wishes and gave me the cut I wanted. Plus she colored my hair and it is back to its original color which is tough to match...golden auburn reddish. No one else got it right before, but Kelly mastered it the first time. If feels wonderful once you get a great haircut and color! Thanks Kelly! Pros: Professional, personable staff Cons: none more

Best spa in uptown 12/17/2008

i went to revamp for some spa services. i got my nails done and got a facial. it was my first visit there and i must say i had a great experience. staff was very helpful and friendly. thanks Pros: helpful and frindly staff more

Unreliable and horrible customer service! 10/22/2008

I am extremely disappointed with the service and professionalism of the staff at ReVamp Salon. I made an appointment to have my hair done for a special occasion. I drove up in rush hour from Northfield just to find out the appointment was canceled. They insisted they called me earlier in the week to let me know, however the only message I had on the answering machine was from that day. Since I work like most people, I did not receive the message. They made no attempt to resolve the situation nor offer any compensation for my time. Since the event I was attending was the following day, I was unable to have my hair done. I will never go back nor would I recommend this place to anyone! more

Very friendly and caring place! 9/20/2008

Went to Revamp because I needed a change. The salon I was going to for years always did the same thing, even when I would try to come up with new ideas they always kept it exactly the same. When I went into Revamp it was so nice because my stylist Kelly not only gave me her ideas on what she thought would look good on me, but also listened to my likes and dislikes. I felt that she truely cared and wanted me to look and feel my very best, and I did! The atmosphere in the salon had a very warm and cozy feeling to it, it seemed like all the employees got along very well and seemed more like friends then co-workers (most salons you can feel the tention and drama they're having behind closed doors). I loved my hair and the whole experience I had there! I can't wait to go back! more

what a wonderful experience 7/21/2008

I went for a fresh new look and had cate as my stylist. What a change she made, I have nothing but compliments on my "New Look". I have been back twice and have nothing but praise for the salon and their staff, Pros: great stylists, very comfortable atmosphere Cons: inattentive front desk staff at times more

Fabulous service! 6/22/2008

Had the silhouette analysis done by Joann - Fabulous! She is amazing! So informative and educational! I would highly recommend it to ALL women wanting to know how to look their best in the RIGHT clothes. I will shop more confidently now knowing what to avoid and what looks best on me. This service is truly worth every penny! more

HORRIBLE!! 6/7/2008

By far the absolute worst haircut and color that I have ever received. I wanted to change the shape of the layers but all stylist did was the same cut only shorter. After being very specific about wants and don't wants for color, I got exactly what I didn't want. Had to wait much longer that I wanted for a redo which turned out even worse. HUGE waste of my time and money, I now will have to pay another fortune to get it fixed elsewhere. Very, very disappointed. They did not by any means live up to the standards in which they portray. I am so embarrassed by the way my color and cut looks. Pros: styling products Cons: Staff's attitude, poor quality cut and color, did not get the b@ng for the buck more

Extremely disappointing! 5/20/2008

I am extremely disappointed with the service and professionalism of the staff at ReVamp Salon. I went to ReVamp a total of three times. The first visit I was extremely pleased and happy with the result. The second visit was with a different colorist and stylist who lacked professionalism and skills. My color looked worse than when I came into the salon. I went back the next week and the color was fixed, but temporarily since an all-over color was put in, which affected my re-growth tremendously. The third visit I went to the colorist and stylist that I worked with on my first visit and she indicated she didn't have any past records to refer to. The color came out looking dull. I sat in the chair for 2 hours while she did someone else?s hair and then came back to fix her error. In total, I sat in the salon for five hours. During this time I was not offered something to drink or given any compensation for my time. I phoned the salon to make them aware of the error and never received a call back as was promised. In addition, the reception was rude and unwelcoming. A salon experience should be relaxing and fun and this was neither. I would never send anyone to this salon! more

Great Service and Atmosphere 5/14/2008

I went in last month and used the $10 gift card for new clients (thinking that if I didn't like it, at least I saved some money). I will definitely go back! My stylist did exactly what I wanted and gave valuable feedback when I asked for advice. A month later, I still like my hair (so it wasn't one of those "Well it looked great at the salon, but I hate it now"). The atmosphere is really nice and not pretentious (like other salons in the area). Loved the stylist I had (Betsy - super sweet) and will definitely make my new salon! more

fabulous service! 3/20/2008

I got my mom a gift card for her birthday, and it was a treat to find that the message I wrote to be included with the card was actually handwritten! It was a nice touch. My mother decided to take me along to use her card, and we got a mani/pedi for the first time ever. It was wonderful! The staff was friendly and very professional, the salon itself was beautiful, and my mother and I really enjoyed the entire experience. It was worth the cost and we will definitely return! Pros: no pressure to buy products, great staff, beautiful facility, chic location Cons: none! more

best facial ever 1/13/2008

I was in mpls for buisness and decided to treat myself to a facial. I am from chicago, and I will say that I have never had such a wonderful facial!!!! Tanya was my estitician and i have to thank her for her knowledge on skin care. the information about skin care that i learned will forever change my life!!! THANKYOU!! I know alot of people think facials are all about relaxing, but it is a facial and i am glad to have been educated on how to care for my skin properly and what is the best product to use for optimum resultz at home. The greatest expierence was to have such awsome education and a totally relaxing facial. I was able to recieve the best of both worlds. So for all of you who hate product pushing, maybe you should just relax, listen and know it is for your own benefit, and then you will see they are doing their job and caring for you and your skin!! I will always return to revamp when i am in town. Thanks so much, my skin looks awsome!!!!! Pros: awsome skin care Cons: none more

Avoid this salon!!!! 11/8/2007

Avoid this salon!!! I recently moved to Minneapolis and found what seemed to be a nice spa/salon. reVamp was a nice place before I saw a m0use running across the floor. The woman doing my pedicure pretended like she had never seen one before, but mentioned that it was a big one. Big compared to what??? I have never been to a salon that had m!ce. It's disgusting. On top of that they served the most disgusting tea and charged $50 for the service. I hardly doubt Oprah would mention this salon on her show. Please contact the health inspector before walking into this place. I hope the other full service salons in Mpls do not resemble reVamp. Pros: Good pedicure Cons: Unsanitary more

Editorial
  • In Short
This Uptown salon has a certain urban trendiness--high ceilings, rough cement walls painted bold colors, high-energy music and aestheticians. This may be due to the fame Oprah brought it when she sent her guests here for makeovers. These services are still available and include hair and makeup, but the stylists can break it down too. This full-service station also does individual styles, manicures, facials, massages and offers spa combination packages.
