A great place to start or end an evening! 12/4/2006

I went to Red Fin for the first time with a group of 6; and we were promptly seated, despite having no reservations. I had heard about Wasabi Bistro before, but I didn't know Red Fin had the same owner. Our server, Ian, was very helpful and knowledgeable of the food and wine available. I had a Tarantula roll (softshell crab, avocado and jalapeno) and the special of the day (fried vegetables with a spicy scallop mixture on top), both delicious, and not lacking any heat! The bathrooms were a little hard to find (in the hotel lobby?), but we'll definitely be coming back! more

Delightful happy hour selection 11/26/2006

I love sushi and I love happy hour. Red Fin successfully delivers both. There are quite a few sushi places around Seattle where I'll go for lunch or a nice dinner. When it comes to happy hour sushi places, those aren't as common. And when you feel like enjoying sushi, usually you're willing to pay the extra dollar for the more upscale places. I've never been disappointed with Red Fin. They have an extensive happy hour selection that includes sushi, nigiri and other seafood items. The price is right, the ambiance is comfortable (classy and professional without being too formal), the waitstaff has always been very accomodating in my experiences there and the taste and presentation are always enjoyable. They seem to be big on presentation...even on discounted happy hour food. My plate always looks like a work of art when it is served to me. The sushi is ok, certainly comparable to many Seattle sushi establishments. For happy hour sushi, I recommend Red Fin. I've always liked the happy hour at Wasabi Bistro too...so I suppose that's to be expected. Pros: Great happy hour selection, friendly waitstaff, classy presentation more

Great chow in a cool place 11/2/2006

Went there with a group, had fairly high expectations, turned out even better than I hoped. Sushi was really great whether the funky rolls or more straight up nigiri. A lot of ""hip"" sushi bars let me down as they're just overdone roll factories without any respect of tradition. The o-toro, geoduck and aji were the best I've ever had. The user-friendly rolls did well among my less adventurous friends, and though not cheap, the quality and portions were a great value (nigiri cuts are pretty big, too). Besides the sushi, the other food was much better than I had hoped for - especially the 5-spice duck a la orange made with Chinese flavors (had this forbidden rice risotto - waiter told us a cool story about how it used to be only for the emperor of China). Good wine list too. Wish it were a bit brighter - hard to read the menu. Definitely heading back soon. Pros: great sushi, well-priced wine list, creative but user-friendly Cons: 4 point font on wine list (small prices = small text??) more

Crappy Service... No Management!!!! 10/12/2006

Talking about like mother like daughter... I know that Red Fin is owned by the same owner as Wasabi Bistro, but it use to be so much better than Wasabi. I went a couple of weeks ago with some friends after not going for a while.... WOW!! How things have changed. Our server sucked!! She didn't know half the menu and when we ordered a bottle of wine, she didn't even know how to open it... The bartender came over and kindly opened it for her... The experience that night was generally dissapointing, when we asked for the manager, she said that the manager had already gone home... WHAT~!!~ What kind of restaurant doesn't have a manager on the floor while it is open??? Needless to say... We were all very dissapointed. This use to be a place that we would frequent and now I don't think that we'll ever be returning. Pros: Ambience... Great Drink Menu... Cons: Lack of training for new staff.. No management on duty more

Disappointed 8/10/2006

The place is great and Hotel Max is such a beautiful hotel. I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed since it is not much of a step up from Wasabi Bistro (same owner) and the portion is borderline stingy. The ambience is great and its a great place for a drink or people watching, but there are just too many sushi places in town that offers a better value. I'll probably try them again in a year to see if they have improved Pros: Beautiful space, location Cons: pricey, small portions and OK food more

DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/14/2006

I recently went to Red Fin and it was completely amazing. I normally do not like seafood at all but I thought it was EXCEPTIONAL! My mom and I had 5 of the small plates+ a roll and were both completely full at the end. The coconut shrimp was a little spicy, but EVERYTHING WAS GREAT! We had the Coconut shrimp, dumplings, fish and chips, Ichi roll, the weird green beans (YET STILL YUMMY) and the crab cake. My fav was the ichi roll but all were amazing. Our server, Amber was nice, helpful, and gave us great service. She completely directed us when we had no idea what to get and made sure our time was the best possible! The menus are cool and the whole place is a beautiful shade of red! Pros: GREAT FOOD, Great service, Great atmosphere Cons: Hard to find more

Sushi Served With A Smile 4/18/2006

Kelly, our waitress, was appropriately knowledgeable about the menu and most of the Japanese names for the items. They had O-Toro on hand and adjusted the Chef's special to include it. The portions were generous. We pointed out the egregious lack of hashioki for our chopsticks and the waitress dutifully remedied the situation by fashioning a set of two out of paper. Well done! The Green Tea Creme Broulee was tasty. Pros: slick, modern, tokyo-style Cons: small more

Delicious, eclectic food 3/23/2006

The sushi rolls were very tasty, and the presentation was excellent. The Happy Hour specials are decent, but not many drink specials. The modern, chic interior creates a fun environment to catch up with friends after work. The quality of sushi here is better than most sushi venues, especially for a happy hour. Try this bistro for a different, yet delicious dining experience. Pros: Yummy food, Modern interior Cons: Average Service more

Great Food, Great service!!! 3/7/2006

Two friends and I were in town for the NFC championship game. Seattle won, but the second best part of the weekend was the great food and service we received at Red Fin. We sat at the Sushi Bar and ordered all the exciting rolls we could find. Don't get a california, or a spicy tuna, they will be good, but go with their special rolls, like the Las Vegas, or Red fin roll. It reminded me of the sushi at Japon in Denver... I might have to fly back to seattle for some more!!!! Pros: Good Parking, Fast service Cons: Ate too much!!! more

Loved It! 3/6/2006

The food and service were great. When I went, I had the Lobster Tempura roll, and the Bulgogi Ribeye, which were definitely worth the price. It's not exactly cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. It was entirely worth it. The service was prompt and friendly, and the martinis were good. We were there during happy hour, and there were several cheap apps, but don't get the eggplant. But then again, I'm not a huge lover of eggplant. I'd definitely go back, especially for the mushroom dumplings! Pros: service, food, drinks Cons: eggplant app more

Bad Service Good food 3/3/2006

just went for the happy hour. the hostess was rude and told us with an attitude, ""you can go sit wherever."" the prices for happy hour were a bit high (especially the prices on the dinner menu) but the food was pretty good, as was the ambiance (though a bit empty and minus the initial experience of the sour hostess, which always lingers throughout the meal.) thus, it won't be a first choice, but it wasn't bad. Pros: food, decor Cons: hostess, prices more

Spicy Tuna roll costs double 2/15/2006

The rolls here are double the price at it's sister restaurant and they're identical. Do we get to keep the plates? Pros: Decoration Cons: Food Price, EXPENSIVE, no parking more

Go with the large plates! 2/12/2006

For dinner we ordered a sushi roll, small plate, and large plate. The sushi ordered was good, but nothing special to be overpriced at $12 for a spicy tuna roll. The small plate of crispy tofu was ok - not too flavorful, but luckily was accompanied by some garlicky greens that helpled. The large plate we went with that night was the steak - which was a good choice. The seasoning was tasty, it was cooked just right and it really finished off the meal for us. more

Bad Food Poor Service 2/10/2006

Servers are so rude here. For the price we paid, we should have gotten better service. Even the place was empty but service was terrible. The sushi was subpar. The sashimi plate looked as if someone just threw the fish on the dish. And to boot, the tuna was still frozen in the middle. We will definitely not be going back. Pros: decor Cons: poor service, frozen fish, price more
