New York Best Movers came highly recommended to me from friends at my office - when I called, the guy who answer the phone (Mike ) had this quick respond type of representation (t...

Nothing about this restaurant was pleasant. This is coming from someone who is relatively easy to please. The food was bland and the service was horrendous. At one point, I spille...

AWFUL. Broke items, rude. 8/18/2010

I recently moved from VA to CA and hired All Inclusive Moving and Storage. They were the cheapest initial bid, by far, and extremely helpful and available before the move to answer any questions. The movers arrived to pick up my stuff on time and were very pleasant. I read reviews before hiring them and one complaint was about being charged for tape. I asked the sales lady and she guaranteed me that I would not be charged for tape involving wrapping furniture- claiming it was included. However, when the movers got there, they wrapped the furniture in blankets and covered it with tape- thus charging me $5.00 per roll of tape, more than exceeding $60 in moving "supplies" that I was charged for. Up to now was the easy part. While driving across country I tried contacting the company numerous times, only to be relayed through receptionists and totally disregarded. The head guy "Zeke" was rude, condescending, and overall unpleasant to deal with. My original bid was $1100, I ended up paying $1950 in the end and felt lucky to even receive my stuff. I was also guaranteed that the people who picked up my stuff would be with it the entire time and would be the ones delivering it in CA. It took ONE MONTH to receive my stuff, and we were told it would be here on a Thursday, took off work, Thursday, Friday, waited around Saturday, Sunday and finally it got here Monday morning. One man and his two kids (under age 10) delivered our stuff. We had to help otherwise the furniture would not have gotten upstairs. Beyond that, 30-40% of my dishes and pictures frames were broken beyond repair, two pieces of wood furniture were cracked, knobs destroyed and plastic containers that we used for packing had obviously been placed under immense pressure or handled with zero amount of care because they were beyond re-use. I would NEVER recommend these people to anyone. Moving is not fun, but these people made it a nightmare....BEWARE! more

DON'T RISK IT. 8/18/2010

So frustrated with them, have called 6 times (seriously!) to just get them to send a receipt of service (they'll completely ignore emails). They say "of course we will" on the phone and then no response. So weird when people lie blatantly to your face. The initial quote will be much lower than final bill (be extremely precise in listing what will be moved). They also subcontract out their moves from NY to guys that absolutely cram your stuff in with multiple other shipments and then throw it around at the other end. I watched the head mover walk on top of the shipments as he looked for stuff, saying "whups" as cracks emanated from below. They demand final payment on delivery in cash, which can be inconvenient. They will sound quick, cheap, and efficient at the beginning but experience will degrade once they have you committed. more

Worst Movers Ever -- Unreliable, Late and Expensive 8/18/2010

I spoke with Velocity Moving at length about my move and was told that I would only be charged from pick up to drop off but not additional travel time. The estimate I received had 2 hours of travel time for a distance of 75 miles, clearly a one way estimate. Yet AFTER the move was complete, I was told that i would be charged for an ADDITIONAL 2 hours of travel time back (almost $200 more!). I spoke to the manager who told me she was sorry that the sales rep made a mistake but they would not honor their word and would still have to charge me for an extra two hours. I would NEVER use this company again. Moving is always a bit stressful, and this company, and particularly the manager I spoke with, made my move an even more stressful experience. more

Awful 8/18/2010

I called and spoke to a man named Alex who apparently has no idea how to judge what a move will actually take. I made my appointment more than a week in advance and carefully explained I lived in a 6th floor walk up and described the amount of stuff I have. Alex said no problem and we set a time for 2:00pm on Friday, July 31st. I left work early to meet the crew and NOBODY SHOWED UP until 4:45!!! Unfortunately that was not the worst of it. Then the crew of three men told me that it was a four man job and they would be leaving!!!!!!!!! They said call the dispatcher (Alex) and he would find someone. Well, Alex couldn't find anyone to do the job and never called back! Leaving me high and dry one day before one of the busiest moving days in the country--let alone NYC. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!? more

patronizing and sketchy, and we never even got up to the "moving" stage! 8/18/2010

As if moving isn't stressful enough...it's even worse when your movers cancel on you, which is exactly what http://www.certifiedmovers.net - World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 for studio apartment did to me. After scheduling the move with the movers, my building and taking off work, they called me the day before and asked if I could do it another day, which was not possible, strung me along saying it would work out but instead of in the morning, they would have to do it in the afternoon. Well, afternoon came and they didn't. Basically there was a lot of shadiness going on behind the scenes and they canceled on me, with no notice. Do yourself a favor and avoid these horrible people. They are completely unprofessional and disorganized. Recommendation: go with Miracle Movers, they are the company that ended up doing the move for me, coming on very late notice, about an hour after I got in touch with them. They were fast, careful with my things, and very professional. more

No respect for my belongings! 8/18/2010

I used New York Certified Approved Movers when moving things from storage. First, the movers showed up late. They also made a mark on my new mattress and then tried to claim it was already there. The price was more than what was originally quoted, and they charged me for additional packing supplies without asking me if I wanted them first. Additionally, they made me feel like I had no choice but to tip them 20% for service I was not happy with. more

Not even a customer and STILL incredibly disappointed 8/18/2010

I apologize in advance for this lengthy review. We were moving from Tribeca NY to Greenwich CT. We received 4 quotes and while Shleppers was the most expensive, Charles from http://www.certifiedmovers.net - World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 for studio apartment assured us that "you get what you pay for" and we would receive white glove treatment. I have 3 very small children so I actually decided to pay up and do it right for the move. I have moved 6 times in the city and have always used Flat Rate with no problems so I am kicking myself for switching! They sent this man and his team who walked in and quickly helped themselves to drinks from my fridge. I had been told that they would start to load the truck and kept asking if they would but they just brushed me off. They left at 1:30 with many things not even packed much less on the truck and my apartment was a mess. Tape and sodas everywhere. They had even left tape in my daughters crib and spilled soda all over my sons room. My super informed my that they then left the rest of their trash (tape, boxes, etc) on the street. When they left their foreman was sure to tell me what they were "looking to get a 20% tip" for this job. I called Shleppers and I was sent a different team the next day who were much better but unfortuantely much of the damage had already been done. When we went to unpack we noticed that they had thrown dirty dishes from the dishwasher (filthy with pizza and mac and cheese) into a box with my photographs and ultrasounds, they threw my makeup into the bottom of a box with my sons Thomas the Train tracks (make-up is broken and a huge mess). They put cleaning supplies in with my daughters clothes. We have not even finished unpacking but it just keeps getting worse! Honestly, if I could give no stars I would. We had such a disappointing experience - I can't believe I actually paid a premium and had this level of service! I will be sure to call Flat Rate for our next move. more

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY..YOU WILL REGRET IT! 8/18/2010

From start to finish http://CertifiedMovers.net's did unprofessional and shoddy work. First the movers improperly packed my furniture, leading to damage to several items. Second, the movers were so incompetent that they left 3 holes in the walls in my apartment building and a huge hole in the molding on my staircase. Third, they were in a rush both at pick up and drop off and were extremely rude. Finally, they lowballed by damages claim estimate. I would highly recommend to anyone moving not using this moving company. more

Worst and Most Unprofessional Moving Company - Everything from being Late, Furniture Damange to Overcharge 8/18/2010

http://www.certifiedmovers.net - World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 for studio apartment.Ask yourself this; why is it that a company has so many AMAZING 5 star reviews (all mostly done on the same days mind you) and then there are HORRIBLE reviews? Probably because there is some serious damage & spin control going on. We have had to file with the BB Bureau, The US D.O.T., 2 insurance companies & no doubt, small claims court. All those horror stories you hear about movers came true with Shleppers. We did a NY to LA move and got Shlepped bad. They claim to wrap & pack all of your electronics carefully, not so. Our lamps were put into a truck as is (bulbs included!). Needless to say, they didn't make it. bose speakers are badly scratched, as well as many odds & ends. 2 tables were not wrapped & are badly dug up, and then there's the antique armoire. They basically destroyed it attempting to get it out of the NY apartment (they took it apart with out telling us!). They dug up entire stairwells causing an est. 7k in damages and are fighting using their "$6 million C.O.I." as advertised (certificate of insurance). Mind you, this was outside of our apartment. we were told that, legally, it's their responsibility to pay for these damages. They've offered the building $250. http://www.certifiedmovers.net - World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 for studio apartment is not a reputable business & i implore anyone considering them to stay away. Sour grapes, you bet. But when you've been through what we're going through (3 months now), you'd do this too. since citysearch wont let me put up a link, try ripoffreport.com and look up ripoff0310962 more

Never again- stay way 8/18/2010

Although the crew arrived on time, generally handled our belongings with care, and was relatively polite, the move was poorly planned and staffed given the challenges of an interstate move from an elevator building in New York to a 4th floor walk-up in Boston. Three men loaded our truck, one of which did most of the physically demanding work. It turns out that he did not travel to our destination with the two other members of our crew, which left two physically unprepared men to carry all of our belongings up four flights of stairs at our new home. The truck also took seven hours to drive between New York and Boston (5 hours is more than reasonable). It was almost 9 pm by the time they BEGAN unloading the truck. They finished at 1:30 am the next morning, after paying a stranger off the street who solicited them for money to assist them. My husband and I were somewhat concerned, as we did not hire amateurs (who may have been just as interested in getting into our building/apartment and learning about our possessions as they were in earning a little extra cash) to complete the move -- we hired a professional company! Because the travel time took seven hours and the movers were physically unprepared for the job, our move was not complete until 1:30 am. Needless to say our new neighbors downstairs were upset, which is not the way we wanted to begin our relationship with them. more

Resting on laurels 8/18/2010

World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 has been a horrible company to deal with. For a cross country move, Shleppers' packers "packed" an antique crystal family heirloom by putting a blanket on the bottom of a box that was too small for the item, and just dropping it in and putting another large heavy item in the same box. Needless to say, both items were destroyed. They never mentioned or even offered the extra moving insurance (provided by a third party) - the moving insurance is cheap! for an extra $150 i don't know anyone who wouldn't purchase it! Had we known it was an option we would ABSOLUTELY have purchased it. If you don't buy the insurance, your sure-to-be-broken and sure-to-be-expensive item will only be worth SIXTY CENTS PER POUND OF THE ITEM. Your grandfather's autographed Jackie Robinson baseball was "lost" during the move? Without 3rd party insurance SHLEPPERS would probably give you SIXTY CENTS.After months and months of emailing and calling was met mostly with silence; their customer service people (who seem nice, but completely ineffective, are apparently they are TRAINED to IGNORE unhappy customers for MONTHS AT A TIME) promise a response "later today." "Later Today" is actually anytime someone gets around to it. They do NOT care about their customers, their customers' belongings, or fulfilling their responsibility when their employees do a poor job (which, I'm finding out now, is most of the time). more

Absolutely and Uncategorically the Worst Movers one could chose to use. 8/18/2010

My wife and I just used this awful company to move and it was a NIGHTMARE. The guys who arrived to move us complained about how much stuff we had, refused to make the additional stop at our storage unit despite us having arranged it with the main office previously, and made us pay them for half-finished job while all our stuff was still on the truck and threatened to leave when we complained that the invoice was higher than what was quoted. more

No respect for my belongings! 8/18/2010

Beware of this company- tons of hidden fees and very poor service. I only gave them one star because there isn't an option for no stars. I ended up paying close to double what they quoted me and they broke a leg on my couch and lost items that go with my bed. Warning- go with a different moving company- I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. more

Inexperienced movers and irresponsible management. 8/18/2010

These last 3 reviews seem awfully suspicious (5 stars?). This moving company has to be one of the WORST companies I have ever worked with. The dispatcher actually yelled at me over the phone for their mistake! Since they arrived so late I was unable to call another company and thus was forced to use them. I have had my same furniture moved several times by different movers and I know how long it takes. They doubled this time!! They started packing and were flying and then realizing that suddenly took a half-hour break. I found them all my their van just standing around?!?! Really?? Then they came back up and complained how tired they were and it was if they were moving in molasses. I was so frustrated--I started packing myself. They were supposed to pack everything but would only pack larger items--most of the kitchen was left untouched. I asked for my own box to try and pack this stuff - ridiculous. Bottom line - DON'T USE THEM. Go somewhere...anywhere else more

Horrible Experience - Broken and Lost Furniture 8/18/2010

They were horrible! They didn't come when they said they would, (they were 6 hours late!) even though each time WE called them, they said they'd be there in 10 min. Then they said they would have the boxes delivered within 5 days, and it took over 2 weeks, without one phone call. Every time we tried to contact someone they would suddenly disconnect, and then not answer their phone. We had to deal with 6 different people, all confused, and uninformed. Overall, an absolutely TERRIBLE experience! So disappointing. more

Please consider someone else! 8/18/2010

Charged me too much, made up a parking ticket that they were never able to show to me and broke a number of items out of sheer carelessness -- a wooden bookshelf with doors was broken because they put it on its back in the truck and stacked stuff on top -- the wood split. Glassware was broken. Walls were damaged. Moving is never easy, but it must be easier than with http://CertifiedMovers.net. Avoid!! more

Terrible Experience with Flatrate 8/18/2010

I was quoted a price of $850 after giving an acurate invetory to be moved. The day of the move my moving went up to $1350 on bogus charges. These charges for some reason were not included in my quote. The movers also damaged my king size mattress. more

Inexperienced movers and irresponsible management. 8/18/2010

I tried to cancel the scheduled move literally minutes after hiring them as I realized my circumstances did not fit the service, and they refused to refund my deposit ($100), falsely claiming that they "had to turn away another customer who wanted your time slot" even though I hired them literally 2 minutes before and . That, to me, already screams unprofessionalism and plain lack of consideration for the customers. F- more

Horrible service - will not pay out for insurance claims 8/18/2010

They started off rocky when the crew arrived over an hour late (and I was the 1st move in the morning). That wouldn't have been such a big deal except that when they billed me, they said their start time was a half hour before they arrived... Within 30 min of arriving at our apt, one of the movers went and sat in my bathroom for almost half an hour. I couldn't go in afterwards to pack up my stuff it smelled so bad. Then the whole crew walked off the job for 15-20 minutes because I complained about the guy in the bathroom. When we got to our new apt, the driver parked the truck a good 1/4 - 1/2 mile down the block and the crew walked everything up and down the street (it was a nice, sunny, warm autumn day...). They did this until I spoke to the lead of the crew and then they drove around parked in front of the building. Ridiculous. Anyway, they damaged the wood on several picture frames even though they used their special picture boxes. We have moved 3 times in nyc, and this crew was the worst in the city. Moving is stressful enough, don't make it worse by using http://www.certifiedmovers.net - World Moving Scam Company Big Hidden Charges $2000 for studio apartment. more

Not even a customer and STILL incredibly disappointed 8/18/2010

Hi, my name is Danny and I was managing my parents' relocation from New York City, NY to Miami, FL where I bought a new house, so I decided to take my parents to Miami but since my job takes all my time I had just a few hours to find a good mover in NYC. My parents are 70+ so it was absolutely impossible for them to set the move themselves, and all I had was the Internet to find a good and reliable Manhattan based moving company being able to provide long distance move from New York City to Miami. I checked 15 something moving companies, their rates and terms, asked dozens of questions and finally I hired NYC Moving Manhattan Movers for my parents' move. The company provided us with all FALSE level of moving( and packing as well since my mom has a lot of stuff to be packed). The delivery was within 22 days and it was a DIFFERENT CREW. The rate was not the same as promised, false movers - they refuse to give me my furniture till i pay - I end up paying $ 2000 more than the original price and now i still have to spend time in court to get back my money - What a cruel mover more
