Dawn is also great. I loved my haircut that she gave me. It's been five months and my hair has grown out great. To me, that's the sign of a good haircut. She is also really nice and listened to me which is always very important. Anu is amazing and very reasonable. I have never had so many compliments on my color especially since my hair is one color so it's pretty non-noticeable usually. Also, as a person, she is really enjoyable to be with for an hour. I have been to cheap salons, and super expensive salons. Mingle is right in the middle, and perfect. I went to Sheila for a cut, and was thrilled. She listened to exactly what I wanted, and made it even better than I could have described. I do not have "good hair"- it is thin and breaks, but I like length. She did not chop it off, or give me tons of layers like other salons (even though I tell them not to). Instead, she was able to keep the length and made it look super healthy. It was a perfect cut. I had no idea it was possible. Next I am going to her for coloring... Pros: clean, hip, but not snooty at all, and fair prices!! more

I have lived in NY for 10 years and have been going to the same well known salon on the upper east side religiously for about 9 years. When my hair colorist left that salon a few months ago, I was very hesitant about trying a new place, but I went last week and have to say that I loved it! Everyone there was very friendly, but what I loved the most (other than Anu - the best colorist in NY) was the salon itself; it was minimalistic, understated and relaxing...very calming. I am very picky about colorists and had found someone I loved at another salon but hated the salon. So, I found Mingle Salon when my colorist, Anu, moved there. I was hesitant to try another uptown salon but was so pleased with the entire experience and have been recommending both Anu ( amazing colorist ) and the salon ever since. What a fantastic place! After getting a horrible cut at my usual salon I decided to find something new. On recommendation from a friend I went to Dawn at Salon Mingle. She not only gave me an amazing cut, she showed me some great tips and tricks on how to wear my hair wavy which gives me a whole new look. I was also very pleased with the staff. I have been living in NYC for a little less than a year and have had my hair highlighted probably four or five times, based on recommendations I found on Citysearch--I'm definitely one of those people that have never written on here! I went to Platinum Salon about three times, and Ioved my colorist there, Caitlin, but she has since moved back to the OC (where she gets her skills in blonde hair!). The last time I went I got highlights/single process (based on recommendation by the colorist, Sheila told me later that was unnecessary/unhealthy for my hair) that made my hair orange, so I went back to get them redone and had them even more messed up. I was so upset and desperate and I made an appointment at Salon Mingle with Sheila based on the reviews here--SHE IS A MIRACLE WORKER! I walked in and was treated so well by everyone. Sheila took the time to examine all of my messed up highlights, looked at the pictures I brought of what I used to look like and wanted to still look like, and gave me two options: 1. the faster option of just adding lowlights or 2. toning me back to my natural dark blonde, then add in more highlights. She explained everything so thoroughly and I felt very comfortable choosing the second option--and I was NOT AT ALL DISAPPOINTED! EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED FOR! I have not made a second appointment at any of the other salons I have been to in the city and I have an appointment with Sheila in June to get my touchup highlights. I've probably been to at least 10 different salons in the past 5 years. No one seems to get blonde right. And the ones that do cost $500. So I ended up trying Sheila at Mingle since she got good reviews and seemed affordable. I was not disappointed. I second Greya below - I also followed Anu from another salon to Mingle. It is rare that I give anyone carte blanche with my hair, but she has earned my complete trust - when she asks what I would like to do this time, I just tell her to do whatever she thinks would look good. I have been her client for a long time and she knows what works with my preferences, my character, and my work environment, but she still surprises me - in a very good way! this is a GREAT salon - it is sparse and zen-like...it has a studio vibe and not overdone which I like. Anu is an amazing colorist. I followed her to this salon. I moved to NYC awhile back and have been trying to find a good colorist..My search was over when I found Tina! One of my friends who has lived in the city over 10 years recommended her...She's the best! As any blonde knows, it's difficult to find a good colorist who can also keep your hair looking healthy through all of the processing. I've gone to Tina for over a year now...She's super-friendly and always listens to what I have to say (and I talk a lot about my hair). I usually go after work and find that Salon Mingle is a very relaxing experience. I grab a magazine, drink and take a seat...a little later I have gorgeous highlights! Highly recommended. I first met Varvara when she worked at Eliza's Eyes when I was Eliza's client. One day Eliza didn't show up and, since I was already waiting, they assigned Varavara to do my eyebrow. She was amazing and I never went back, I even followed her across the street to salon Mingle after Avon closed. Bless you SAYURI! I finally found a stylist - with some STYLE!- who is confident and comfortable with scissors in her hands. Personality wise she is sweet and fun, skill wise she knows what she is doing. She created a look for me that fit my face and maintenance level to perfection. Every single day, a co-worker of mine literally turns heads with her hair. A sassy, cute bob that's so sleek it almost looks like it should be fake...that kind of 'do. I'm new to the city and am VERY picky about my hair, so I asked her where she got hers done. She recommended Dawn to me, and ohhh man. Folks, if you have bad hair, get yourself into Dawn's hands over at Mingle. The staff is great, Dawn is able to give you a fabulous cut AND some styling tips for a reasonable (by NYC standards) price, and she matches cuts perfectly to your face shape. Even though my cut has grown out significantly, I STILL get rave reviews ("How do you get your hair to have that kind of wave! I was referred by a friend, who insisted I get a haircut from Sheila, and I am so glad I listened. She was warm, friendly, and listened well to my description of the haircut I wanted, as well as making certain suggestions of her own. I wished to make a drastic yet still flattering change and the cut I received exuded just that!! Going back to her for color later today!! I have followed Varvara from Avon Spa where she worked and was trained under Eliza Petrescu. Mingle is located in convenient midtown which still allows me to make appointments at lunchtime.
