Best

I have been going to Mario Badescu for years, and I love it there. FANITA is my go to lady, and not only does she give you an amazing facial, but she also really knows everything...

Worst

i agree with the comments that this place offers good facials and bad service. my facialist seemed tired, was very quick, and left the room for long stretches of time. still, i ...

Plain and Simple - A DUMP with terrible staff. 5/24/2007

I had scheduled a facial and massage just recently and immediatly canceled the massage after being walked across the building lobby to a nondespript room with a sheet and towel covering the massage chair. NO showers are offered and if you want one -- good luck testing the grimiest bathroom I've seen! The facial rooms are completely outdated, no privacy or relaxation opportunity is provided by these - you can hear all the doors being slammed and the people next to your room. The aesthetician that performed my massage was HORRIBLE. I swear she was working on someone else while doing my facial. I've never had such a horrific experience. The prices listed are a total farce because any treatment you get is an additional $35 - $50 bucks and the only time these women talk to you is to upsell this!! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY or energy here. Your face is worth a lot more. These women are terrible, the facilities are awful/outdated and they should never post massage services. Oh, and after your "facial", the place DOES offer a "makeup" room at which they provide the oldest concoction of makeup and dirty, used brushes - like who will ever use this?? Thank the heavens I had my own and quickly ran away! Pros: Product line with some good offerings Cons: Dumpy, outdated facilities; NOT a Spa by any means, highly likely that the aestheticians are untrained more

Go Somewhere Else...Extremely Rude Employees 5/11/2007

I gave someone a gift certificate to receive 3 different spa treatments and found out I will NEVER do that again (Here at least). The quality of treatments were horrible and the women were extremely rude. After the 3 treatments, they asked if any other service were wanted. When my friend replied, "No thanks", they basically made fun of her and called her cheap. They told her "Bathroom is free..." What the hell is that????? Remember girls, you paint toe and fingers and clean people's faces, who the hell do you think you are???? I forgot, touching peoples feet and massaging their faces gives you the right to belittle them. I will never recommend this place to anyone ever again!!!!!!! Pros: NONE Cons: Extremely Rude Employees more

bad facials, not worth the money! 4/12/2007

I use some Mario Badescu products and after hearing how affordable and great the facials were, I decided to give it a try. I had a couple of break outs from a cream I had used so thought a facial was a good way to help get rid of them. Instead, the aesthetician I saw did absolutely nothing! She barely extracted anything, saying that I had nothing but a few clogged pores and not to worry about them. She gave me a nice face massage but then after putting on a mask, left me for more than a half hour. i got pretty restless because the chair i was laying was uncomfortable and it was not at all relaxing because you can hear people walking and talking. The room was TINY. Overall, I felt like I paid $67 for nothing. I love the products, but wouldnt go back for a facial. For those who live in New York, I suggest Dorit Baxter! They do great facials and often have spa packages that are inexpensive. Pros: good products Cons: small rooms, bad facials, language barrier with staff more

BAD EXPERIENCE - Save your money 4/10/2007

I started going to Mario's when I was 14 years old and it was wonderful. I am now 33 and it is a totally different story. I know for a fact that they see 4 patients at once as I was told that by the person who was my regular facialist for all those years. It is sad to watch it go downhill. They are also VERY RUDE and could care less about customer service. I will never go back although I will continue to buy some of their products. Pros: Great Products Cons: Poor Customer Service more

If you think a great $60 facial is too good to be true, you're right 3/3/2007

I have heard good things about this spa and had to see it for myself when I heard the facials were just $60. It was a $60 facial alright in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing 2 facial appointments at once because every 10 minutes they'd slather something on me and leave me alone for 10 minutes. No soothing music, no shoulder or hand massage during the down time of my steaming or mask penetration. The extractions were ok. The waiting room was crowded and I had to stand. I know they boast celebrities using their products, I can't believe this is true. I advise paying double the price and getting triple the value elsewhere. Pros: Cheap, easy to book appointment Cons: Bad quality of service, non-serene environment more

Spend your money somewhere else. 12/19/2006

I used to go to Mario all the time. I even recommended them to my family and friends but the services and personnel demeanor has gone done. I agree with many of the reviews on this website. I am a minority too and I received no respect from the counter personnel. I work hard for my money and refuse to waste it at this spa. The facials are okay but my face was left red and scarred for atleast two days. You do get that 'glycolic peel' push everytime. Some of the products work but others are pushed on you. The girls in front look and act miserable and don't know anything about customer service. My friends and family have also stopped going to Mario. I believe that if you continue to support bad service, the company will not change its behavior. If you want to try out the place, go ahead but you will also see that its not the best in the city anymore. more

GREATEST FACIAL I EVER HAD 12/17/2006

I have been to Mario's twice and I must say that both times it was so wonderful. I am on a tight budget at this time of year and the products and service prices are great. The facial was over an hour which is more than I can say from other salons I have been to in this very expensive city. I had a Alpha mask that made my skin so soft and smooth I couldnt believe it was my skin when I left! I have recently started to use some of the products also. They smell great, feel great and don't leave me broke and feeling ripped off like at the dept stores. They even offered samples if wanted to try more stuff! Thanks for getting me hooked! more

Horrible Products, bad facial... 12/2/2006

The facial was really bad when I got it. Although frurstrated, I thought I guess this is what I should have expected with this price. What is really frustrating however is how horrible the products are... There is a reason why they don't have a sampler for the buffering lotion: it doesn't work! But worse, it worsens your condition.. I used this product for about two weeks with the hope that I am gonna see some results one day.. But instead I have these acne eruptions that have become worse and worse, and now I fear that I will have permanent scaring... Never had a problem like this before I used Mario Badescu products. They are useless and bad. more

Fantastic massage 11/7/2006

After trying a few different places in NYC, I've been going to MB for massages during the last couple of years and really adore my massage therapist, Anna. How can you go wrong with someone who used to be a physical therapist? I will **always** go back to Anna for massages and recommend her very highly. more

GREAT PRODUCTS- THEY REALLY WORK 10/23/2006

I had a facial at Mario's a few weeks ago and another one the other day to help clear up my skin. I was amazed at the results. My skin always looked clogged and dull and just gross and after my facials it was practically poreless and felt so clean. After my facial I was escorted to a room off to the side and I was looked over again and asked about a million questions about my skin! The person really took the time to select the right products for me and she even gave me samples of some of the things I didn't want to buy so I could have the complete regimen. She really sounded like she knew all about the ingredients and was interested in educating me about the products and my skin and less about aggressively pushing everything like at the department stores. The Glycolic soap is the best product I have used yet and I have tried everything. For the price and the amount of time and care you get, its soooo worth it. Pros: Inexpensive products that really work! more

So bad..... 10/10/2006

I got my facial with vitamin C mask and glycolik Peel in MArio Badescu. It has has been two weeks my skin is in worst condition ever. i didn't know what to do, had to order proactiv. Hope it will help to get rid of this brake outs. I called them and talk to the manedger, she said I should come to see what they can do to correct this. i am very disappointed after spending $ 150 for facial in this horrible place. During the facial I was left by my self most of the time, while Corina was working with another client or two. I want my money back... more

Waste of time...and facial not that great 9/16/2006

Do not recommend for facials: their facials are 1 hr 15 min, which constitutes of 15 min start of facial with no conversation or consultation, 15 leaving you with steamer straight on you (to work on another client), 15 min work (though didn't extract nearly enough and I did some myself the next day) a quick "you need glycolic acid treatment" (no consultation as to why) and application of treatment, then left again 15-20 min (another client), then some cooling treatment and a quick lotion. I asked why they left for so long and if they work on other clients and she said yes, 2 other clients at the same time. The accordian door is left open and you hear all the activities in the hall and it's not relaxing - nor does it seem like a seemless procedure. I asked another women who was waiting in the area for "consultation" where they push the product and she felt the same way. I guess you get what you pay for - but at $110 (facial plus glycolic treatment) I would prefer another experience. As least some advice other that "you need to come back every 4 weeks" - perhaps tell me a little about my skin and what you see...and spend some time on the extractions since that's really why I came in. Pros: price Cons: not personalized, distracting atmosphere, quick more

Good facial, friendly service, free samples 8/14/2006

My facial here was really good. I agree they don't pamper you here as much as other places do, but I just wanted a good, clean facial at a good price and that is what I got. The service was good. My facialist's name was Eva and she was polite and sweet. The extraction was gentle yet thorough. The masks smelled great and tremendously helped my problem areas. I was here on a weekday and the experience was mostly relaxing and quiet. I could hear rustling in the hallway once in awhile but it was barely noticeable. Afterwards I got a free skin consultation where someone took the time to listen to my concerns and recommended alot of yummy sounding products, which are ALL reasonably priced, much cheaper than department store products. I bought one product and ended up walking out with a sample of everything my consultant recommended. Overall I was very happy with my experience. Pros: price, product quality Cons: small rooms more

Mario "BAD-customer-service"! 8/12/2006

I went to Mario Badescu for three years. For two of those three years I just bought their products, and for the last one I only went for their facials. I have only seen the customer service plunge for the worst since I started going. The last time I went for a facial (which was the last time I will ever have anything to do with them again), my facialist made it clear that I was not welcome back to that spa ever again unless I bought all their ridiculous masks and products which I do not need. To be more exact, as she was cleaning my face from the last mask of the facial (which was their basic mask) she went into a monologue about how Mario badescu was open only to "make money" and "see results", and that I "obviously" did not care about the quality of my skin. She went on to say that I was "wasting her time" and recommended I go to someone else for facials, or to another place. Talk about horrible customer service! On top of the fact that the spa girls are not at all nice, the quality of the facials stink, too. My face was left temporarily scarred a few times and I have noticed that my nose has striations, or marks, that it did not have before - and I do not touch my face. Contrary to what this woman said about me, I am very orthodox about having good and healthy-looking skin, which is why I want to share my story with anyone who is even considering giving this place a try. I don't want you to waste your time, money, and skin on this disastrous place. There are friendlier, better quality spas out there that have much more relaxing vibes and tons better customer service. more

extremely rude 7/8/2006

I went to Mario Bedescu about 3 times and each time,I was treated unfairly. Why? Because I am a minority. White women were spoken too politely and every minority was treatly very nastily. Also, their facials are not so well. Extractions were painful and left my skin bruised. My facialist's breath stunk of coffee and she had food in her teeth. more

Horrible, Rude Customer Service 6/17/2006

I have been a devoted MB user and client for quite some time now, but the customer service - not only the front-door staff but the facialists as well - has just taken a turn for the worse. On my most recent visit, I experienced perhaps my worst bout with bad customer service EVER. There are so many lovely day spas in New York, where the staff are all friendly and happy to be there and help you, but MB is not one of those places. They seem miserable. And I will never return. Watch out for Mikki (facialist) and a red-headed woman behind the counter. . .catch them on a bad day and you're in trouble. Very sad. MB just lost a devotee. And I'm not the first. more

Great Value 5/14/2006

I had never been to have a facial before, and I made a reservation at Mario Badescu based on the advice of a friend. I was so pleased with the results! They really do an excellent facial, and my skin was glowing. Plus, they did an analysis of my skin type and gave me a whole bunch of skin samples. Betty was my facialist. She was gentle with the extractions, and I had no scarring or redness (although I do have very clear skin overall). I found the experience relaxing, although Betty was in and out of the room. She turned on soft music that blocked out all of the outside sounds. I liked the masks she chose for me - made my dry, flaky skin smooth and moist. Pros: Good Deal, Excellent Results, Friendly Service Cons: Lots of Activity, Crowded more

On the higher end of GOOD, not the BEST 1/25/2006

I went for a facial - it lasted about 1.5 hours - tons of extractions (great) - but my technician kept leaving the room - and not for a minute or two, for a while. I actually took the heated gloves off my hands since she was gone for so long - i couldn't take it! She had another client next to my room - I could hear her in there. AND another facialist kept coming in the room UNANNOUNCED - or they's argue in the hallway in some other language - REALLY NOT RELAXING. My facial was very well done though, I was happy with the results - just annoyed by the service; doesn't help you relax all that much. My fiancee had a massage by Ana - he LOVED it. I was not given ANY free samples... Pros: Timely, Good Results, Friendly Staff Cons: Lack of Attention more

Mediocre Experience and facial good products 10/31/2005

I was a little disappointed by the overall experience. I got the basic facial with the glycolic peel (110 total), but my facial did not last longer than the 75 minutes and the results of the facial were ok, not as good as those I usually get at other spas for 100 dollars. Moreover, the facialist left the room all the time, probably because she was working on another client. The extractions are minimal (hello! that is the whole point of a facial). However, I purchased some products which are really good. I would go back to Badesu only if I couldn't afford an extra 30 dollars for a better place. more
