I have been going to Mario Badescu for years, and I love it there. FANITA is my go to lady, and not only does she give you an amazing facial, but she also really knows everything...

i agree with the comments that this place offers good facials and bad service. my facialist seemed tired, was very quick, and left the room for long stretches of time. still, i ...

great treatment 6/17/2008

I felt that the service was wonderful, my facial was amazing but they need to upgrade the space, a little old and dingy, and they need to remind other guest to stay off their cell phone, even if they are friends of the owners. Pros: explains what was going on and what products being used and why Cons: too much chatter at the front desk and orthodox client are so rude more

great customer service 4/13/2008

I've never thought about writing a review about MB but this time i felt it was time to say Thanks. I've been going to this SPA for many years and all i can say is great customer service so i want to say thanks. One other person i want to thank is Betty. From the day someone had recommended me to her i have always had my facial from her. She is extrodinary and professional. So again i want to say Thank You for treating me so great and for making my experiance every time so wonderful. BY the way the products are GREAT! Pros: customer service Cons: outdated equipment more

good friends give good advice 4/13/2008

Three of my girlfriends have been going to MB for many years. They wanted to pamper me so they got me a gift certificate for a facial. When i got there i wasn't to impressed it felt like Grand Central Station. It looked disorganized and i was looking for quiet. The other thing i saw was all the equipment and bedding was back in the 1970's. I've lived in Europe for many years and i can tell you one thing, Beauty care is the real thing out there and Americans can get some good lessons from them. The only thing that saved my facial day was BETTY who was recommended by my girlfriends. She knew what she was doing and with the backdate equipment she had to worked with she was able to really do magic to my face. I was really impressed and satisfied with the facial and the funny thing was i found out she is from Italy(my theory was on target). Anyway i was happy and the girls from the counter were somewhat helpful and i've been using MB products ever since. more

A Real Spa that Takes Care of Real Problems 4/11/2008

I'm not sure why there were so many negative reviews... I went there yesterday for the first time because a friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for a massage and facial. She had been going there for years and swears by it. Yes, it is not the most glamours looking place, but think about it... during spa treatments, do you really usually have your eyes open? My massage was wonderful and I loved that she only used lotion. She really got the knots out and was able to give me just the right amount of pressure. As for the facial, don't expect it to feel good. Facials are not supposed to feel great, they are supposed to hurt and that is how you know you have a good one. I had Corrina who was wonderful and really payed attention to my skin and removed every little thing. I've had facials before where they put a lot of nice smelling, pretty things on my face, but when it's all overwith, they didn't really do a darn thing. This is not the case wtih Mario Bedescu. If it's glamour you are looking for with treatments that aren't that great, then go somewhere else. This place gets down to business and really takes care of the beauty problems at hand. I highly recomend it. Pros: Prices, really gets to the core of your beauty problems, professional, products Cons: thin walls, not a luxious atmosphere more

hmm... 4/2/2008

Honestly, I'm not hard to please... and I kept the low price (or so I thought initially) in mind when I went in for a facial. However, I really only got about 15 minutes of attention on my face the entire time (one hour and twenty minutes) and with an add on I ended up paying roughly about the same as I would at another spa. I think getting an add-on made the experience worse because I paid about the same but only got about 1/3 of the service, both in terms of attention and masks/peels/facial services. If you're just looking to get rid of blackheads and want the basic service, I would say go for it. If you want a real facial with a series of treatments...go somewhere else. Also, I want to note that I went to a facialist that has been mentioned on this website numerous times for good service. Still, I know my face has more glowing potential. The products seem alright. Pros: Seems like a good basic service for getting rid of blackheads, cheap products Cons: not a good value, time-consuming with little payoff more

This place doesn't relieve stress, it causes stress! So unimpressed... 3/31/2008

I received a 1hr facial, 1 hr massage, and mani/pedi as a gift. I had heard so many great things about Mario and the spa I couldn't wait to go. The second I walked in the door I was disappointed...what does everyone think is so great?? First of all, this is not a Spa by any sense of the word. This is an old, outdated apartment with zero noise protection. The walls, doors, floors are hollow, flimsy and creaky. This place is not a sancutuary of relaxation - I cannot emphasize that enough. The rooms are so small - the door bangs into everything. I was trying to enjoy my massage and all I kept hearing was some lady moaning about how tense her muscles were in the next room! My facial was a total horror. This was my first real facial so I didn't really have anything to compare it to, but I knew it couldn't be this painful... My face was like a war zone. Horrible, horrible, horrible. My face/skin is so sensitive, which she saw during the consultation, yet she proceeded to attack! I was telling her to stop and she kept telling me she was almost done. It was really bad, I do not recommend this place at all. Avoid Betty and Giselle at all costs if you have to go... The products seem to be quality but aside from that I have nothing positive to say. I totally regret going. Oh, and they do the manicure pedicure at the same time as the facial! What is that about? They were so rough with that as well, shoving my feet into a sloppy bin of luke warm water...ugh, i can't even write any more. I should have stormed out in their robe and left. more

IT IS EXCITING TO DISCOVER A WORLD CLASS AESTHETICIAN,LEAH AT MARIO BADESCU IN NEW YORK.I HAD HEARD AND READ ABOUT HER BUT IT WAS NOT UNTIL I FOUND MYSELF UNDER THE PROFESSIONAL HANDS OF LEAH AND I REALIZED I GOT THE BEST AND MOST RELAXING FACIAL OF MY LIFE. ONE FRIENDLY ADVICE, IN EUROPE AN AESTHETICIAN BASICALLY WORK ON SALARY .SALON OWNER PAY THEM VERY HANDSOME MONEY.BUT IN USA (MAINLY IN NY)THEY WORK ON TIPS.DON'T FORGET TO TIPS THEM WELL ,IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEM AND WANT TO GET GREAT SERVICE. more

Best Waxing and Facials - wouldn't ever go elsewhere! 2/11/2008

THE best wax in town by Lana at Mario Badescu. I have been going there for years, and have tried a ton of other places over the past ten years - she is THE BEST. If you are looking for professional, painless, quick, beautiful - go to Lana! Along the same lines, Leah gives the best facial in town too - painful yes - but boy does your skin clear up fast! You leave a little red but wake up the next morning glamours and glowing! more

Basic facial with no bells and whistles, but I definitely recommend it. 2/9/2008

I had a facial this morning with Leah at Mario Badescu, and she was knowledgeable and very sweet. The facility itself was quite crowded (it was a Saturday morning, after all), but I was taken to my treatment room right on time. This place is super efficient - they have a ton of rooms and many estheticians, so they can take more appointments per day than your average "day spa." I love Mario Badescu products so I was very happy with the products used on my face. I was happy overall with my facial (and the glycolic peel I added on to my treatment) but for the 1 hour and 15 minute procedure, the esthetician only stays in the room for a total of about 15 minutes. She applies whatever products are involved in the procedure but leaves for about 10 minutes in between each step to see her other clients (they usually have 3 other clients at the same time) - and this was not exactly relaxing. I sort of hung out there just wondering when she'd be back. But when you come to MB you have to understand that's how they do things. Don't expect pampering like Cornelia Day Spa (which is like a luxurious country club) - you come to MB because you want a basic, good facial with good extractions and products you can trust. I will definitely be going back - mostly because I liked Leah and the price is right! Pros: The price is right at $65 per facial. Cons: They run this place like a factory. more

Terrible Experience 12/26/2007

The overall experience was unprofessional and painful. During the facial, the aesthetician squeezed so hard during extractions she left nail marks all over my face. A day later, my face was covered with scabs. I went back in to see the manager and all she could do is push free products in my face in hopes I don't take the complaint further. I don't wish this kind of experience on anyone. Avoid this spa at all costs. Pros: none Cons: skill, service, cleanliness, ambience more

Not worth it 10/9/2007

I agree with one of the most recent viewers--you are treated like cattle here. They file you in, stick you in little rooms and then push you out. I've been here four times over the past 6 months thinking each time might geet a little better. Nope---last Friday was my final visit. The esthetician is working on two people at once. She stayed in my room for about 10 whole minutes the entire one hour my appt was. All she did was wash my face and make a mess of my hair, squeezed a few pimples and put a mask on. I could have done that myself. I was in the small room that has the chair that can't even lay flat. She kep the accordian door open the entire time, so it was not relaxing at all and you could hear everyone talking in the hall. No need to go on--it's not even worth it for the money. I've had Luba and Marinella, and they were both indifferent and impersonal. Just be warned--it's not all that it's cracked up to be. (I've been getting facials at various places for 8 years now, so I know what a good facial is. Bliss does a better job than they do. My favorite place in the city for an amazing facial is SkinCareLab in Soho, haved posted a review there about Jackie--she is awesome!) Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

The Best aesthetician 9/27/2007

I have been going Mario Badescu to get my facial done for a few years and I tried most of the aestheticians there. While doing research on the internet I found a review done by New York Magazine in January 2002 rating Corina as the best aesthetician at MB. I made a special appointment with her and I was very impressed. Corina is excellent at extractions. She is also professional and very friendly. After a facial with Glycolic peel, Vitamin C mask and an eye treatment my face looks amazing! Thank you New York magazine! more

worst experience ever 9/2/2007

My facial at this spa was the worst spa experience I have ever had. First, the place is very crowded, noisy and dated; don?t count on relaxing there. My room was so small my feet were touching the wall! During the facial, the aesthetician rushed through every process, kept the door to the loud corridor open, and then disappeared for 15-20 minutes a few times. I had the strange feeling that she had another client at the same time. The flimsy harmonica doors, when closed, didn?t silence the noise in the corridor, so I didn?t get the expected relaxing experience. I left the place more tense than I came in. I have been having facials for 11 years now, so I know what to expect, and this spa failed at everything. I went with a friend, who?s reflexology appointment was late because the masseuse took someone else without an appointment instead of my friend. Her facial was as rushed as mine. I admit the prices are lower than anywhere else in the city, but it?s not worth it. I can get more attention from a drive-thru attendant than I did at this place. Pros: cheap Cons: don't expect to ralax or have the staff's attention more

LOVE LOVE LOVE my FACIAL!! 7/24/2007

This is my first facial at Mario Badescu and I'm absolutely going back before my wedding. I had a facial with the Vitamin C Mask due to my very sensitive skin. I love the feeling of the Vitamin C Mask because it totally cools my face. This is the first time when I walk out from my facial without any irritations and redness. For people with sensitive skin, I highly recommend getting the facial with the Vitamin C. Pros: Great Facial and very cost effective! Cons: Very busy at checkout, have to wait awhile. more

GOOD FACIALS 7/24/2007

What people have to understand is that its Mario Badescu SKIN CARE.... NOT Mario Badescu SPA. This is'nt the place to go if you want the whole relaxing spa experiance. This is the place to go however if you want an amazing facial....its no frills and yes they do work on more that one person at a time but who cares? The point is that this place probably does some of the best facials in the city. Yes, they do push the glycolic treatment but you can always say NO and it definitely does enhance your results..I;ve had a facial both with and without the treatment. Everyone is really sweet and I've never had a bad experiance. They do offer massages and other body treatments...not sure how great they are but they're offered. Pros: GREAT FACIALS, NICE STAFF Cons: A BIT OUTDATED, YOU NEVER GET THEIR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION more

My first facial Ever !!!! 7/24/2007

This was my first time at Mario Badescu Skincare, I had the most fabolous facial by Julia. She was excellent, my skin has never look better in years. I recommend this place to family, friends, co-workers and whom ever is reading this. They are very reasonable priced in there products and services. Right after I was done with my faboulous facial i was taken to a consultaion room where a skincare specialist analyze my skin and recommended some products. They even give you samples of some their products which is great!!!!! I have to say it was a bit noisy but the salon was packed with patrons of the salon which in an instant I know I was in for a fabulous experience. Pros: Great experience for my very first facial Cons: a little noisy more

Best Facial! 7/24/2007

I have been a customer of Mario Badescu for 13 years, and the compliments I get on my skin can only be attributed to them. Their products are great and getting regular facials make a big difference. My facialist Irina is very thorough yet gentle. The noise level at the salon can be rather noisy when I've scheduled an evening or weekend appointment, but when scheduling my appointments during the day or first the first appointment of the day can be more quiet. I liked the fact that I don't have a pushy sales person, but every time I needed assistance there has always been someone there to help me. This may not be the most posh spa, but I like the fact that it is not pretentious! Pros: Great products - Great Facials more

excellent facial, wonderful aesthetician 7/19/2007

i just came from mb today and i was more than pleased with my facial and inexpensive glycolic peel. i am 32 and ive had many treatments for my oily, sundamaged skin and know when a treatment was done well or not. leah was terrific. personable, excellent at extractions and very professional. yes, sometimes i would wait for her to return to my room, but never long enough for me to feel like i was being ignored. the prices as stated are extremely reasonable and the treatment was 1 1/2 hours plus. for only $114?! i love this place and will return. the place was outdated, but nevertheless clean and bustling. if you ever feel pressured to buy products, JUST SAY NO! i do! they may not like it, but TOO BAD! i did not feel pressured but they did ask if i would like a product consultation. i declined. all in all, a great place if youre on a budget. Pros: skilled, personable staff, great value, great products Cons: salon needs updating, but who cares! more

Pay more money elsewhere and get a facial that's worth your time 6/28/2007

The products they use are good, I've used many of the samples and purchased some of the products that were not offered as samples. That's the only positive thing I have to say about this place. The woman who does your facial is also doing one or two other facials on other clients at the same time. She slathers some cream on your face and leaves you for about 20 minutes, comes back, and repeats the process until one hour has passed. You can HEAR her walk into another room with another client! They have no shame. I'd rather pay more money to have someone stay in the room with me and really focus on doing a good job rather than pay just $65 for less than mediocre service. Then you are pressured into paying extra to get a glycolic treatment or a seaweed mask. They tell you that you NEED it. The facials include an extraction step, where there is no standard of best practices performed at this salon. What I mean is that each astetician does not follow a set of guidelines on how to do the extraction, or how to keep it sanitary. One woman used a pin on my face, but I have no idea if the pin was sterile. Plus, she kept stabbing the pin into some kind of cushion between extractions. Is that sanitary? It didn't seem like it to me. The next time I came in, I decided to request a different astetician, and this one was WORSE. She used her FINGERNAILS to do the extraction, leaving nail marks on my face for weeks. It's been about two months since I've been, and I can still see where here nails dug into my skin. I really hope this isn't permanent scarring. I'm going to go into the salon personally file a complaint against this place. I bet all they'll do is just offer me some free samples and treatments. They can shove it. This is the first review I have ever written. I usually just read reviews instead of contribute, but this time I felt it was absolutely necessary to warn my fellow spa goers. Do NOT go to this place for any spa services!!! Pros: Good products Cons: Terrible service, unsanitary, uncomfortable "rooms", loud & noisy more
