First Experience and it was good 3/13/2011

I've never been to a comedy club. My girl took me and it was very fun. They had us sit at a table right in front of the stage and of course we were picked on. The only issue was our order took a long time to come back to our table. Maybe it was because of how busy it is. more

Have to agree Managment is horrible 12/9/2010

I do have to say, I got the nacho's and they were really good. The drinks have improved over the time and i usually enjoy the comidians. Now to the problem, I was looking over my bank statement on Tuesday of the following week and noticed an extra charge on my card from Harvey's. I called and left a message and wait a couple hours. No return call. So i called back (it is very hard to get someone on the phone), Finally someone answer and I told them about my issue. They stated they would call the manager and the manager would call me back. Hours go by and no response. I call back (again near impossible to get someone on the phone), they say the manager will be in the following day and will help me with this. Still no call back! Finally 2 days later i notice they removed the charge. I am glad it was taken care, but a call back would have went a long way. Harvey's has lost my business! more

Manager was rude and yelled at us! 6/7/2010

I had a similar experience as the previous poster. As my party and I were motioned to be sat we went to sit at our table and I guess it was the wrong one because the hostess/manager yelled at us. It was an honest mistake and no one should be talked to like that! I also agree our server was very nice. Good show but F that bitch! more

Chubby Hostess/ Manager is a BITCH 5/28/2010

We went to Harvey's Comedy Club last weekend and I have never been treated so damn poorly as I was by the Chubby hostess, I was told I could complain on my comment card but that she throws them out if there is anything negative about her on them. I was also told that I could call back and talk to the owner but I though of this instead. We made reservations and when they could not find them our trouble began. The Manager was unconcerned, rude, bitchy, and she looked at us from up on her high horse with an evil glare. We were the ones who had been wronged and she treated us as if somehow we did something wrong. I am not sure what her problem was but we wanted to leave. We only stayed because we love Suzanna Lee, an amazing female comedian. Our server was a doll when we talked with her about our situation, she of course said it was another department she couldn't do anything for us, but she was a sweetheart and we were glad we stayed. As she apologized for her manager she mentioned that she was always trying to calm down her customers after they interacted with her manager/ that Chubby, rude, bitch. I am also in the service industry and I could tell from the look in the servers eyes that working for that Chubby Bitch was hard. If you go to Harveys and can get seated before you punch out that condecending, angry bitch be nice to the servers they obviously deal with alot. Pros: Server was a doll Cons: Chubby, Hostess/Manager is a BITCH!!! more

Not Surprised when i got screwed 5/8/2010

So my friends invited my husband and I to Harveys for the first time. I had went to this website and read all the reviews prior. Wow, not good at all. So I was already skeptical. We went anyways, (free tickets) We walked right in with no lines. I had read not to eat there food but my friends had ordered the nachos and to my surprise, they were actually really good. I also read not to order any mixed drinks because they are over priced and weak, so I stuck with wine which you cant mess up. the service was fine, nothing took extra long or anything. The comedy was great and we had a wonderful time. When it was time to pay they had our credit card with them to "hold the tab open" but i didnt want them to run it so I paid cash and they gave us the card back. When I got home i had a sneaky suspicion that the server could have pocketed the $40 i handed her and still have charged my card. Sure enough, I just checked my account and Wammo!!!!! There it was, a charge from Harveys. I guess i could have refused to hand her over the card. So I just called to speak with the manager and left a message. I have a feeling that no one will return my call until I finally get a hold of them again. I dont have any proof that I paid cash but I guess I will have to prove that i also didnt sign a credit card slip as well. If you go, dont dont dont hand over any credit card and bring cash so you dont go through this. wish me luck all. sneaky suspicion more

TERRIBLE SHOW and SERVICE 1/9/2010

We decided to check out Harvey's and boy do we regret it. The service was maybe the worst we've ever experienced. Our waitress was never around and when she was; she was surly. That was annoying but what really made the evening a night to forget was the headliner Amy Schumer. We realize that Harvey's isn't an Improv and they give away a ton of free tickets but we expected much better. She needs stronger material versus relying on being the (almost) cute girl who tries to be edgy. Harvey's appears to be the only stand up comedy club in Portland so I guess we won't be seeing live stand up anytime soon! Cons: See Review more

Management is a nightmare! 12/12/2009

Last night on Dec. 11 we brought in a group of 30 people, which we had let the management know we were coming in a big group and trying to make sure we would be able to sit together. A bit of a cattle roundup to get in the room, but we all made it in and together. We opted for not prime seating because they seemed disorganized and confused on where to seat us. We chose a area in the far back would work for us because we were all together. As the host was doing his small beginning act our friends from out of town were used as a piece of his act, she said something funny outloud about smoking. The host thought it was funny and kept using it in his act. At that point the female manager walked up to our friend and said you need to be quiet. At this point none of us knew any of this was going on, since its dark kinda hard to see. as the evening progressed and more food and drinks were being bought, beings we were 30 people Harveys was making a great deal of money off our free tickets. Our friend was approached again and was told needed to leave the facility because she was too loud and she needed to keep quiet. Our friend said, this is a comedy show???? are you serious! The female manager said I will call the cops on you! At this point we all started to get upset that our friend was being kicked out, then threatened with the cops being called? All she did was laugh and was loud at a comedy club? we all chose to get our things and leave during the main act, we were so sorry we had to leave while he was on and we understand that is so rude to do to a comedian. People around us were getting upset cause we were all getting up during the show, so they were upset and we were upset. Pretty much the most ridiculous thing! My husband went to the manager and said, What is the enviorment you are wanting to set for Harveys, she said for people to have a fun. My husband said isnt' laughing and being part of the act part of the enviorment harveys is wanting as a comedy club, she said people are suppose to have fun but be quiet at the same time. So I guess they want people to just sit there and stare and not laugh or have a good time. Over half of us work in the service industry and customer service. The management needs to handle things in a more appropriate manner, I would have loved to hear the call to the cops! this is Harveys and we need you to pick up a lady for being to loud and laughing at the comedy club!!!!!! Entire group is upset with Harveys and we will tell everyone to not support this business because of how we were all treated! Pros: Free Tickets Cons: management, getting groups sat together more

The night was a disaster. 11/11/2009

I run a meetup group in the area, and one of our members received free tickets to the show for 16 members of our group. We all showed up 45 minutes early because we knew we needed to go in together to get in free. After waiting in the LONG line in the pouring rain, we were told that our tickets were not available. Naturally we were upset because we'd organized this event and had 16 people waiting in the rain, counting on getting in. The staff was unsympathetic and totally rude and unaccommodating. Our entire group was disgusted. Not one person at Harvey's acted like they cared or offered to do anything for us. We went from person to person only to be smirked at and sent away. One of our members was actually told "I don't want to hear it" by the staff member at the ticket window. I have no idea if Harvey's is actually fun or not, or if their food is any good. I will not be giving them my business at any point in the future. I think that if you do bad business and have horrible customer service, people should tell everyone they can about it so that eventually it catches up with you. Stay away from Harvey's! Pros: None Cons: Horrible Customer Service more

Good for a laugh 8/7/2009

We had a good time. The four of us shared a good nacho. Parking was scarce. Mixed drinks were weak. They need to do something about those tiny bathrooms. Overall, a good change from the norm. Pros: Fun atmosphere, Fat Tire on Tap Cons: parking, weak drinks, bathroom more

Not bad, but not great either 5/12/2009

My husband and I went to Harveys for our anniversary on April 24 since we enjoy stand up just as much as the next guy. After paying for our tickets on-line, we checked in at the door, and was told to see the guy inside, who immediately asked us, "did you pay for your tickets or did you get them free?" We told him we paid for them, and he proceeded to put us in the back of the room. I then, ahem, reminded him we PAID for the tickets, and then he put us not in the 4th or 5th row, but in the very furthest front table, so we were kind of looking UP at the comedians (one extreme to the other). It seemed odd to me since we had indeed PAID for our tickets and other folks who clearly got freebies had better seats than we did, but we couldn't sweat it too much. We were there to have fun after all! Our waitress was on top of it, getting us beers right away and always checking back with us to see how we were doing. We appreciated that, particularly considering some of the negative reviews listed here. I think some of the folks complaining about the service may have been of the same ilk of the rowdy beer-saturated crowd that no server really wants to go near anyway! The comedians were eh-eh. Both acts seemed like they were making things up on the fly, like "oh, I do this all the time, so I don't need an act" kind of thing. But really we didn't expect Robin Williams or Ron White, so oh well *SHRUG*. In the end, we had fun, and we do plan to return and check out other talent. Pros: Fun atmosphere, good service Cons: Comedians OK, no preferential treatment for those who paid! more

Will not Return 2/19/2009

Food was expensive, poor service and was imbarressed by staff after being asked to come on the stage by the comedian. Lost camera that was on the table before we left. And when reporting the inncedent the staff was very rude and never returned my phone calls. Pros: Comedians were plesant Cons: Staff very unprofessional more

They give tickets away because their service is substandard and 1 out of 5 comedians are mentionable 2/16/2009

We've been to Harvey's 5 times. They have had 2 awesome comedians, the rest were career challenged. The fifth time was horrible. They gave us free tickets, but the manager, (white guy, not the other one), was extremely rude. He was extremely classless and it was like since THEY gave us free tickets, that we were expendable. We were sat, by him, behind a pole, we were really early, so there were plenty of open tables. We moved to an open one and he came over frantic with a tone and "said you can't sit there!" Some tables had reserve signs, the table we moved to did not. The service has always been slow, the drinks have always been weak, but they are the only comedy club. If you go, just don't let them get away with the typical substandard treatment, especially with this economy and the value of a returning or new guest. Pros: Only comedy club in Portland Cons: The management, the service, 95% of the comedians more

have been several times and LOVE IT!!! 10/17/2008

I have been to harvey's several times over the past 10 years. I have always had a great time. the food is a little spendy, but most of the time you can get free tickets if you call ahead. It is definetly woth checking out. Pros: you can get on their list for free ticket, always great acts Cons: waiting in line. more

Great acts but bad food and weak drinks. 5/9/2008

My friends and I go only when we are offered free tickets and it's an off shoot that sometimes we can get seated when some of our party are missing, and sometimes not. I'm pretty careful about what I eat and most of the dinner selections are deep fried. The food is also pretty slow to get to you. The turkey dip is a good order though, although the last time I went there, which was 2 weeks ago, all of the fries on the plates at our table were pretty cold. I almost asked the waitress to take them back and bring me some hot ones, but the food had already taken long enough to get to us the first time. We had to keep asking for things like salt, ketchup, silverware. The drinks are usually pretty weak and most of the signature drinks are $7 and up. My husband is a drink lightweight and he had 4 cocktails and said he felt no buzz whatsoever. I find them weak as well and usually stick to vodka and tonic or something. The aweful kicker was that I ran my debit card through the bar's ATM and it canceled me out the first time, so I tried again a minute later and got my money. Several days later I was looking at my online banking and saw that Harvey's ATM double-charged me, including the surcharge..and gave me a pretty fair runaround in helping me remedy the situation. I finally had to contact my own bank to get assistance. All in all, go if your expectations are not very high. The acts are great and thank goodness it's a smoke-free establishment. Pros: Good comedians, smoke free Cons: Bad food, slow service, weak drinks. more

Over priced and they will add on their own charges 5/3/2008

My husband and I had FREE tickets to Harvey's so we convinced another couple to go with us. I must say the comedians were histerical. Our friends ordered a salad and when it arrived it was brown. Not just a leaf here and there, but every piece of lettuce had brown edges. YUCK! Would you eat brown salad? So they send the salad back. The waitress rolls hers and makes a stink over returning it. So guy friend decides he isn't going to leave a tip, they had the audacity to tack on an additional $20 charge to his bill for not tipping. All in all Harvey's food is subpar and overpriced. Go for a laugh not to eat or drink! Pros: good laughs Cons: wait staff adds on their own charges, food & drinks over priced more

They ruined our evening... 3/22/2008

We decided that it would be a great idea to go to Harveys for my friends bachelorette party. I had made arrangements with Harveys to go to their Saturday evening show. I confirmed by email and also by phone the day of the show that our reservation was still standing. When we arrived with ten girls in tow, they wouldn't let us in and told us that the show had been sold out and would not grant us access to the club. It was a huge let down to my friends last night as a single girl. We were left out in the rain by Harveys Comedy Club and I will never give them my business again. And I know that NONE of my friends or family will ever go there ever again as well. Harveys dropped the ball and now has lost my business forever. Pros: there are none Cons: they ruined our evening more

good laughter 11/25/2007

The comedians were awesome. We laughed so hard I could not feel my stomach by the time we got out of there. We did not eat, but we drank, and the service was pretty prompt. Even if it hadn't been, we were there for the fun, and we got what we wanted. I still start laughing at some of the jokes I heard last night. Great place! Pros: the laughters Cons: not worth mentioning unless you are a snob more

Worst Service EVER 6/22/2007

I went to Harvey's for the first time tonight and the experience will not soon leave my mind. We arrived early and waited to be seated. Once seated, we waited over 20 minutes just for the waitress to take our order. It took another hour for our food to arrive. Our appetizers arrived with our meal. We kept asking the waitress about our order and she said "Any minute now". We saw people get seated after us, order after us, get their food before us, finish their meal and have their plates taken away before we even got our round of drinks. The chicken was dry and the bun for the burger was burnt to a crisp. The waitress would not discount the tab or bring us the manager when we asked repeatedly. It was hard to enjoy the comedians when you spend your time hungry and bickering with the waitress. The waitress looked at the receipt I signed and noticed there was no tip and proceeded to argue further and ruin our time even more. We will never go back and I would never recommend this place to even my worst enemy. Pros: I laughed a couple times Cons: Service, food, drinks more

Avoid at all costs! 2/28/2007

I used to work for this company, and it was a horrible experience. When I got sick, my job was threatened, even though I had a doctor's note to excuse me. We would call a database of approx. 14,000 names/numbers. Not very many if you think about it! We would call a number till they answered and either 1)accepted the free tickets, 2)told us not right now, or 3)asked/told us to take them off the call list. Because of the low numbers in the database, we called people every 1-3 weeks, depending on what the manager wanted. I had friends and family go a few times, and sometimes I would go with them. The waitresses were surly and got to us/them when they wanted to. The floor manager was rude to my party, and on numerous occasions. The food was not very good at all. The drinks were watered down. I would never recommend to a friend, or even to someone I didn't really like. Pros: Near the Greyhound Cons: Everything else more

great laughs slow waitresses 3/12/2006

depending when you go and who your waitress is, it can take a long time to get a drink or even your food. i love the comics and i go there with friends once a month. stick with the beer for a cheaper drink! Pros: awesome comedians, good food Cons: slow service more
