I`m a Executive Chef.I run 2 restaurants in Houston! i come to Grooves on Saturdays to see Ms. Jackson and the same one Cook is always there busting his a$$. where is your head Chef? he or she can`t work one (1) cook to surpport the Whole restaurant!!! are you Guys CRAZY! i gotta to give it to him. he can cook his tail off! and try to make everything by his self! which he`s doing! i`m going to see if he would like to work for me! because no man should have to pull the whole cookline by him self it`s wrong and not right! i hope he`s getting cooks top pay $14.00 and hour because if he`s not,i`ll pay it because he`s worth every dollar! he`s wasting his time there. i`ll be back to have a talk with him! SORRY GROOVES but i hate to see someone do everything him self and do you guys care about your crew! guess not! because notthing change.management never there. and when they are the dress like strippers. NOT GOOD FOR RESTAURANT Pros: The Cook with twist in his head! Cons: Management! more

Hardly a Restaurant 9/22/2009

Went there expecting a restaurant atmosphere and instead it was a nightclub environment. This is a hangout place for the young hip hop crowd - great for that - not sophisticated at all. Pros: Cool Building Cons: Hip Hop Night Club more

One Word...Horrible 9/5/2009

To cosign with the other reviews, this place was absolutely horrible. This was our 2nd time there. Over a 2 hour wait for food, drinks never came and management's idea of ""fixing"" it was to give us $10 off...(She smelled like she had been smoking when she finally came to the table.) Never again. Pros: Nothing Cons: Too many to list more

Bad, Bad, Bad 8/3/2009

My husband and I got there at 8PM. We parked in handicap (I have a decal that I obtained legitimately). We were told that we would have to pay $20 to park in the lot, even with a handicap decal. We enter and are eventually seated. We did not have a reservation but I told the hostess that we would be a group of 7 so she eventually seated us. \r \r We were seated at two tables pushed together. One table was uneven, shaky. It had a cloth napkin underneath it but it was not working so my husband put another cloth napking under the shaky leg. \r \r We ordered a Tanqueray & tonic and a Grey Goose and tonic. The drinks tasted funny (they cost $9 each) so I asked the waitress to take mine back and get a better one. My husband later figured out why the drinks were bad: They had given us soda water instead of tonic water. He told the waitress but she said the bartender said he made the drinks right. We also ordered appetizers, which when we finally received them were mediocre at best. \r \r The rest of our party arrived at nearly 9PM. It tooks so long for the waitress to come back to our table that two people in our group went to the bar to get their drinks. When one of the guys received his beer, it was warm.\r \r I don't know if they sould system was the band's or if it belonged to Grooves. It was so loud that my head began to hurt. Everyone at our table commented on the loudness. I was so glad when intermission time arrived.\r \r The owners of the club must know that this place needs some serious tweaking. It is not the upscale establishment that I had been led to believe. I will never return to Grooves. Cons: Overpriced Parking, bad service, bad drinks, too loud sound more

Terrible Experience!!! 8/3/2009

Over the weekend I invited my friend from St. Louis out for brunch at Grooves, it was me and my fiance` and her and her friend. We got there before my friend did and the lady at the front kept offering us the drink specials $5 endless Mimosas, etc so we thought why not. Then she kept asking us if we were going to eat and I informed her I was waiting on a friend. I asked her if it was going to get packed or something if there was a reason we should make our plates asap when we were the only ones there. She said it gets really packed and I figured she was right after all the brunch was advertised as $8.00. My friend arrived and we ate it was a buffet style menu. The food was good but nothing spectacular no real breakfast food just lunch, no seafood or anything only chicken gumbo (which I have never heard of in my life) and dessert was a fruit tray. We had to ask them to take our plates before we could get more food so we would have room to eat and they left a pitcher of mimosas so we served ourselves. Before we asked for it the somone dropped our ticket off and the bill was $100.00!!!! They charged us $17.99 for each brunch and over $20.00 in gratuity, I got nothing accomplished when I talked to management I was told once you touch the plate you have to pay for it, I suppose these people would act the same way if there was hair in your food. They also claimed never to advertise their brunch with prices like those I can see why they wouldn't. The place never got crowded like the lady said it would and it was a terrible experience all the way around. I don't pay $18.00 for buffets when I'm on vacation, there was no seafood or gourmet food that would have made the price acceptable. Brunch was supposed to be from 11 am- 4pm and they definitely closed the buffet line at 3:00pm and whole hour early we were there for an hour and fiftteen minutes and came out with $100 bill. The WORST PLACE EVER I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THEIR HARD PRESSED FOR CASH BECAUSE ON THEIR WEB SITE IS SHUT DOWN BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T PAID THE DEVELOPER!!!! Cons: Deceptive Pricing more

Great Food 7/27/2009

I like the fact that it was classy and the food was inexpensative and good. There Reservation process and procedures make a lot of people unhappy. If you don't have a reservation you might not get a seat. The bar area is very small. If a customer is pending money let them sit down Pros: Great Happy Hour Enviroment Cons: No Reservation No Place to sit more

Poor management 7/21/2009

The ladies at the door wanna be so classy when there not. If your not a man then they don't want to help. They are the most unprofessional service I have ever seen. To be classy they need to evaluated the individuals at the door. Another issue this place of business have is no one gives a straight answer when trying to book a party, I have never heard of charging a cake fee when you have paid them for a party. Wtf is that all about. There are too many chiefs in the front when they should be helping the wait staff. more

Omg!! 5/26/2009

Overcrowded.. service is horrible! Ordered a drink and never got it!! And the audio was horrible very scratchy hurt my ear's more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT 5/14/2009

AS MANY OTHER REVIEWS THE MANAGEMENT IS\r VERY BAD.\r I MADE ARRAGEMENTS WITH FREINDS \r TO GO AND SUPPORT THE LIVE BAND JP MILES & THE MILES OF SOUL BAND ON TWO OCASIONS.\r THE MANAEMENT CANCELED HER ON MAY 2,09, MAY,16 09 WITH LESS THAN A WEEK NOTICE. THANK GOD I RECEIVED AN TEXT FROM JP LETTING ME KNOW , BECAUSE I HAD 20 PEOPLE COMING TO GROOVES BECAUSE OF JP\r NOT THE FOOD, BECAUSE IT'S NOT GOOD, NOR IS THE SERVICS. \r JP MILES IS GREAT,AND PROFESSIONAL AND\r DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE TREATED THIS WAY.\r SHE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THE CANCELCED DATED IN FULL Pros: THEY DON'T DESERVE ANY STARS ! ARE YOU SERIOUS? TRY -.0 more

Upscale Low-Class Service 4/10/2009

Just left this place highly upset! We were celebrating my niece birthday and several people were new customers...the service was horrible! Waited for food forever, never received a refill or even offered...paid $200.00 for a terrible evening. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Wonderful Spot for Good Food and Fun!!! 3/31/2009

I had my 32nd Birthday Party at Grooves on Saturday, March 28th. Before arriving, my waitress for the night called to confirm my reservations and was very polite over the phone. At that time, I felt more confident about my event inspite of the negative reviews that had been posted in the past. \r When we arrived at Grooves I was soooo impressed with the courteous staff and the relaxing environment. We were given two wonderful waitresses who waited on us the entire night. For eating purposes, we had a variety of everything on the menu and everyone loved what they had ordered. I had an approximate total of 30-35 guest and no complaints at all. Now that's great customer service. The bacon wrapped shrimp were to die for!!!! While eating we all enjoyed the live entertainment!!!\r After the live entertainment the party got started. Oh, my God the DJ was greatest!!!! From 9:15 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. we were treated like royalty by all staff members, including management. \r I will recommend this spot to anyone who is down to earth and looking for a good time. It really felt good to be in an atmosphere that was fun, without any drama or fighting. Thanks to all of the staff at Grooves!!!! Pros: Food, Live Entertainment, Drinks, DJ, and Environment more

great place for fun and food 3/30/2009

i went there on a firts date and was really impressed with food and the whole atmosphere.. the d.j and the band was awesome!! it was a great night.. the only thing that bothered my was the when we wen to the dance floor for 5-7 minutes and freskly ordered drinks were discarted, however they did make new ones .. otherwise i would recommend it to a friend. Pros: music, live band, and the food Cons: kids were in there for a party more

STAY AWAY 3/19/2009

This is the most unprofessional group of people I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I was attempting to arrange a congratulatory party for a friend of mine and 18 of her guest. I called a month before and made the reservation for drinks, appetizers and dinner for 20 people and was told that my reservation was confirmed and the only stipulation was that I wasn't able to bring balloons. I sent out invitations and thought that this meant that everything was okay. A week before the party, I received a voice message from ""Brooke"" who told me that there was some type of mistake and that they were booked for the evening of my party. I immediately called her back and was told that she was busy and would call me back the next day. After not hearing from her the next day, I called back and spoke to Tonya. I explained the situation to her and she said that she didn't know why Brooke told me that. Tonya said that she would speak with Brooke, and call me back, but since I had already sent out the invitations, they would definitely be able to accommodate my party. Again, I didn't receive a call back from Tonya. I called again three days before the event and was told that there wasn't a reservation for me or my party. Needless to say by this time I was quite upset. I explained my situation again, this time to Shatara. She told me that she would work something out and call me back. She did call me back, and explained that they would accommodate us, but we would only be able to stay in our area for two hours and would be asked to move if we didn't start ""bottle service"" (which she estimated at 250 for a bottle of Grey Goose). First of all, I am not cheap, but if I am paying for appetizers for 20 people and these people are buying dinner and paying for drinks (and don't forget the 15% added gratuity), we would have spent well above 250 dollars. I didn't understand why we had to spend an additional 250 just to stay in our place. Needless to say, I decided to cancel my function and have it at another venue. When I called and explained the situation, the manager at the new venue guessed which establishment I was speaking about before I even told him ... he said that they have hosted several parties due to the non professionalism of Groove's staff. STAY AWAY. IT IS FAR FROM THE CLASSY ESTABLISHMENT IT PROFESSES TO BE!!!! Cons: The staff more

NEVER, NEVER, EVER WILL I HAVE A PARTY HERE!!!!! 3/3/2009

FIRST OFF WE HAD PLANED A PARTY AT GROOVES, IT TOOK 5 CALLS JUST TO SPEAK TO THE PERSON WHO DEAL WITH PARTIES! (1 RED FLAG) THEN WE SET A TIME TO MEET AND SHE WAS NOT THERE! (2ND RED FLAG) SO WE ASKED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER WHO COULD TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT PRICING OUR PARTY NO ONE THERE (3RD RED FLAG) HOW DO YOU HAVE A RESTAURANT AND NO GEN. MANAGER, NO CO MANAGER, NO CEO IS THERE! SO THE DAY OF OUR PARTY YOU WOULD THINK THE EVENT MANAGER WOULD HAVE THINGS GOING SMOOTHLY WE ALL GET THERE & SHE`S NOT THERE!!! WE ASKED FOR A MANAGER AND NO ONE THERE, JUST STAFF SITTING AROUND TALKING. THE FOOD WAS GREAT BUT LATE. IT WAS ALREADY COOKED AND READY BUT NEVER BROUGH OUT! THEN ABOUT 10-11PM WE MEET THE MANAGER! SHE COME TO CLUB WITH A TIGHT & SHORT DRESS ON. SHE`S ON THE STAGE WITH THE DJ DANCING AND DRINKING!! NO WONDER EVERYTHING IS A FAILURE THERE NO HEAD ON THE BODY!!! THEY PARTY LIKE ROCK STARS AND HANDLE BIZZ LIKE RETARDS! Pros: the food was the best we`ve had at grooves!! Cons: let me think about that, after sunday! more

Needs More Staffing-Needs Better Management 2/24/2009

It was my birthday and I scheduled a party there for the weekend on 02/19. I reserved three booths-4 weeks in advance. The night of, we arrived and one of the booths were taken by people who didn't even have reservations. They allowed us two other booths and told us we could have a third IF the people ever leave. Ok, so 30-45 mins pass and no WAITRESS/WAITER ever shows up so I go over to find a manager. I tell them that my guest need additional seating and we would like to order a drink or something. Was told that they would send someone-another 30 mins pass and finally a waitress comes to take our dinner and drink order. Booth 1 had Waitress A and Booth 2 had Waitress B. After the order were taken, we were finally moved to a table that sat at least 25 people.\r \r After 45 mins, still no drinks or food. We ask the manager again and she goes to check and comes back with a some drinks in a pitcher that she ""made up"" herself to ease our anguish of not having food or drinks. 30 mins goes by still no food or drinks. We ask the waitress, she says apparently everyone put in their tickets at the same time causing everything to be behind. Finally Booth 2 receivd their food. NOONE received any drinks.\r \r After another agonizing 30 mins every1 received drinks but those residing in BOOTH 1 never received food. Apparently the waitress forgot to put the order in. It was the most unprofessional, unorganized environment. People are standing everywhere. Even if you have reservations, there are people just hoovering around you, your table, your food. There is no control and it was an absolute nightmare. Im all about support but they are NOT as new as people are indicating as I was there last year for my birthday as well as the service was better LAST year than this yr. So, needless to say I will NOT be going back again because it was ridicolous. Some of my guest left after not getting food because they were hungry and I the bday girl ate JACK IN BOX after leaving Grooves damn shame Pros: Parking Cons: Service more

let`s not judge so quick! 2/16/2009

My wife and i came to grooves on valentines day. and man when i say it was set up so nice we loved it soon as we step inside. but when i looked at the cooks line and the size of the dining area i knew the food was going to be a very long time. everyone showed up at the same time so i know all food orders was put in at the same time. but i think they did a good job getting the food out. but they can use more help. now this was our first time every coming to grooves,we been heard about this spot. we heard the catfish, steaks,,salmon and burgers were the best. and it is the best! now let`s keep in mind that this is a fairly new restaurant so it will have alot of faults. most new restaurants never make it but these guys are doing the best to keep things going i see. but over all we enjoyed our night at grooves, dancing to the live band! this place will be thee spot soon just work with`em. i see all the bad talk of this place but it will stop. Pros: The food was the great! Cons: needs a little more work. more

This place is not all that... 2/8/2009

Where do I start?????? The food was good but a little over priced for my taste. The service was damn right awful. My girlfriend was very upset that the waitress never came back to the table with the check. They took all day making our drinks. When they messed up one of my girlfriend's drink order, they did not want to remake the drink (still charged her for the drink even though she sent it back). The next time we plan a happy hour event, we will not pick this place again. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Needs Better Management 2/2/2009

This place could use better managers to get where they should be! our team visit the restaurant and finds plenty of no leadershipp, a lack of management and very poor service! we requested a manager of the restaurant and no one was on site, the worst mistake a restaurant can make! someone has to be there at ALL TIMES FROM OPEN TO CLOSE!! FROM GM`s TO RESTAURANT MANAGERS! a 2nd team went to the restaurant at a later period and fonud the same service, no management and poor service. we agreed the food was great but could not enjoy the dining exp. because of the nightlife (clubseen) in a fine dining restaurant. there should be hours set for your dining and hours set for your late comers. this would not effect your restaurant and be mistaken for a club. HINTS, lower prices. small portions of food at high prices is not a good choice in a new restaurant! in fact it could destroy a restaurant. the food is great but too high for a small amount. more

Possibly the Worst Place in Houston 1/19/2009

I ignored all the negative comments and decided to try this place for myself. They should be shut down for\r horrible service and sub-par food. Our waiter had to be hunted down all evening. Our party of 8 received their entrees one at a time at least 30 minutes apart. The management could not be located. The bartenders kept us waiting endlessly for our drink orders. Some food was tasty, others cold and bland. I am in total disbelief that this place is still open. It is sad that blacks try to support any black owned establishment and they are treated with disdain. I am certain the owners know they are ripping people off but do not care because they are making money off of innocent people. The tables remain dirty when someone leaves. I will proclaim the atrocities of this establishment to everyone who will listen. Please do not support this place, they do not care about customer service. I hate to think about what's going on in the kitchen since everything else is so poorly managed. Save yourself, eat at a reputable place with good service and if you want live music, go to a concert or anyplace but here. This place is a joke! Pros: lots of room Cons: everything else you can think of more

Depends on the night 1/4/2009

The first time I went to Grooves was a Saturday night. The live band was great and it wasn't too crowded. I thought the drinks were overpriced but they were good. The DJ that took over later that night was the bomb! He played a mixture of current music and old school rap and slow jams. My friends and I had a great time! We decided to go back on a Friday on the suggestion of one of the waitresses for the drink specials. We were told to get there early. We arrived at 7:30 and it was PACKED! We ended up having to get a table and ""forced"" to order from the very limited high priced menu. Whatever! Our waiter... couldn't be found the entire night but had the nerve to get mad whenever we went to the bar to order drinks. The DJ was the bomb! I danced so much I had to ice my knees the next day. But I would rather go on a Saturday where it's not so crowded. Pros: Music, atmosphere Cons: Food, prices more
