This is one of the very best salons I have ever been to. I saw Tina K. who created an INCREDIBLE and very complex highlight and cut on me, working with grown-out roots and several different colors already in place. I had a clear idea of what I wanted and brought pictures, but Tina made 2 other suggestions that I wouldn't have thought of that made all the difference and it came together so beautifully. It was an interactive experience which I love, not just someone doing what was asked without investing themselves in it. Tina even kept making fresh dye so that I would have the best color possible! What an extra touch. The staff is very polite and attentive, they even sent a girl to go get me a Diet Coke because they didn't have any left. I will say that every client vibes differently with different stylists, so if you are the type who likes to just sit down and get your hair done and not chit-chat, Tina is not the one for you. She is very positive, energetic, and talks to you like an old friend. My only complaints are that the receptionist is a little bit too sassy, and Tina made some comments about my weight that hurt my feelings even though I don't think for a minute that she intended to do so and I don't think she realized it. But on the plus side, she warmly and energetically greeted me as if I were an old friend who she hadn't seen in years. That was awesome! Overall, recommended. I have been to Elyse several times and she is amazing! My hair has never looked so good. I have been to many different stylists and Elyse is consitently the best. She always listens to what I want and makes me look great. I change my hair often so it is hard to find someone who is willing to take my hair from red to blond to turquoise, from long to short and back to long (extensions), and do it well. I have never been dissapointed. I would highly recomend Elyse. more

I got attitude from the male receptionist when I made my appointment and then again when I went to pay. He just couldn't be bothered with helping me because I was interupting whatever he was in the middle of that was oh so important. The cut I got from Rebecca was good. She's meticulous, but has time management issues. I sensed that she ran 15 minutes late for all her appointments. She's very chatty as well, which can be a good or not good thing. I was told about DLS by a couple of friends when I complained about my then-current stylist. After having long hair for years, I decided to cut it all off but found I had constant ""helmet head"" due to continued bad haircuts. So, I went to see Lucynda with pictures and a prayer and WOW!! She totally rocks! Not only is she very friendly, but she has cut my hair beautifully and given me tips that are easy and workable. I get tons of compliments on my great new 'do, and I will never go anywhere else. I can't wait to try out the rest of the services they offer. I was introduced to Josh through my hair stylist Kristy to get my brows waxed. He does an amazing job every time. His goal is brow perfection and he uses a combination of waxing, plucking and cutting to achieve it. I've had many different people do my brows and they either get my brows too thin or they are never consistent. Josh does a great job every time!!!\r \r But that is not all he is great at...When the spa opened several months later he had his work cut out talking me into getting a facial. I usually stay away from facials/messages because I suffer from panic/anxiety attacks. Sitting in a room for a long period of time in a confined position can certainly bring on feelings of panic for me. I confessed my issues with Josh and he assured me that we would do the facial on my terms. He offered to keep the door open and stop whenever I needed. This meant a lot to me and on the day of my appointment he made sure that I was comfortable and at ease. I was in for an extraordinary treat. After the first 10 minutes I began to relax and his facial/message was awesome! He guided me through each phase of the facial letting me know what was coming next so I was not surprised. I am so happy I did this. I highly recommend Josh and his magical hands!\r more

I lost my favorite stylist awhile back to another country and have struggled to replace her ever since. I've had some decent cuts, some really bad. Before visiting DLS, my last one was really bad and left me with a weird shelf in the back. Elyse was amazing, totally understood what I was talking about, and fixed it perfectly! She took such care in her cut, and even had me mess with my hair after she styled it to see where more might need to come off. I was thoroughly impressed and would recommend them to anyone! I've also had no problem getting a quick appointment there, definite bonus for a procrastinator like me ;-) more

So, I'd had my girlie parts waxed a total of twice and never ever would have recomended the experience before. The first time I did it myself, OUCH, OUCH BAD! Don't do it! The second time was in a spa, the waxer lady was cold, impersonal and missed a bunch. I ended up going home and shaving just to even it out. But at Dirty Little Secret with Megan, it was a thouroughly new experience! Yes it still hurt, but she was fast, funny and it wasn't embarassing at all!! I am completely satisfied with my current girlie parts hair situation. I will go back to Megan and recomend her to all my friends! Pros: location, personality galore, not pretentious more

i'm not sure how this salon can stay in business with the way they handle potential customers. i made an appointment with the receptionist and he rushed me thru the phone call. i repeated to him my appointment and he confirmed, which i entered into my palm handheld. i showed up 5 minutes early to my appointment and they could not find me on their schedule for any time...it was like i made this appointment in my dreams! i choose this salon because of the reviews on this site...the woman who helped me was very kind and did apologize, but didn?t offer for me to reschedule. maybe she thought my hair was way beyond repair and they couldn?t help me!! more

I don't normally write reviews, but I recently went to an expensive spa in San Francisco, and realized just how amazing Portland's ""Dirty Little Secret"" is! I recently spent some time in Portland visiting a friend. I had an afternoon to myself and decided to stop in this spa my friend recommended. I have been to spas before, and this one was a pleasant surprise. I felt so relaxed, the atmosphere was really accepting and authentic. I immediately felt comfortable. I signed up as a walk in facial and within fifteen minutes I was greeted by Megan. I am so surprised I was able to get a walk in with her, as she was exceptional. When getting a facial, every woman knows that it's not just about the work getting done to your face, but the over all experience. When my hour was up I was thinking of other things I could get done just to stay in that bed. She was very friendly and warm. Trust me, that makes a difference, there's nothing worse then sitting through a facial with a person that makes you feel like you're an inconvenience. She did the full treatment, thorough with every detail, again, just superb service! \r \r Seriously, do yourself a favor, and go book a facial with Megan at Dirty Little Secret, your life in spa treatment just might be changed forever. I have tried a few other places before going to Dirty Little Secret. I had a bad haircut that Elyse was able to fix. Not only did she fix my hair but it looks great and is very easy to maintain. They have later hours and the interior of the salon is very cute. Highly recommend this place and Elyse was great. She really listened to what had happened, what I needed, and put together the perfect package. I have gotten tons of compliments and just love my hair! Omigod, I just had an other-worldly experience at the hands of aestetician-extraordinaire, Joshua Lange. I knew I was in for a treat when I was first introduced via the amazing stylist Miss Kristie, who also works @ the salon. From the moment we made eye contact, I could see Joshua was as lovely on the inside as his glowing skin would indicate. First off, his training is top-notch, it doesn't get any better than Aveda institute trained and certified circa '97, back when it was run by Horst himself. His technique was unparalleled and his touch magical. Josh believes in incorporating lots of healing massage and his highly-trained hands yield beautiful results. In addition to his excellent training he is one of the most knowledgable aesteticians I've ever encountered. The Hungarian line they use is spot-on and Josh can tell you anything you want to know about the line's processing and ingredients. I learned a ton about caring for my combination skin. All in all a heavenly time was had. Next time you're feeling under, treat yourself right and pay this exceptional gent a visit at this wonderful spa and salon. Divine ! more

I am always shocked at the lack of customer service and professionalism these days. I've left many a salon thinking during and after the service, ""is that it?"". This is not the case with Megan and Dirty Little Secret. I was suprised at the many stages of the facials, the personal care given and the massage she gives! I had people comment for days after my facial that my skin glowed...and it really did. I have had acne and weird skin since 10 and with my visits over the last few months has left my skin looking better than ever. \r \r I love the products, natural and organic. It really does make a difference. Ask Megan for some suggestions, she never pushes product so ask, ask, ask!\r \r If you are needing to do something special to your body....book the hour long facial with Megan! My esthetician moved out of state, and recommended that I make an appointment at DLS, as their waxing specialists use the same product. While the spa is new and edgy, and the prices reasonable, my waxing experience was anything but pleasant. \r \r Even though my esthetician was polite and professionally, she did not seem to have the skill set to provide a service in a timely manner. In the past, I have been able to receive a bikini wax within a half hour, and it took this esthetician over an hour and a half. \r \r Not only was this service time consuming, but also extremely painful. I realize that there is some type of pain associated with these types of services, but the esthetician clearly has not mastered this skill set and/or does not have enough experience to eliminate some of the pain.\r \r Once I returned home, I discovered that I had splotches of ?blue? wax all over my arms, legs, torso and clothes. At first glance, it appeared that I had a full body wax, not just a bikini wax. I am a firm believer that the products used on you at the spa, should stay at the spa, and not follow you home!\r \r It is also important to note that I had beautifully sculpted eyebrows, until I went to DLS. My eyebrows are now uneven and plucked too thin. It appears that clusters of hairs were removed from my brow line. Unfortunately, it is going to take months for my eyebrows to grow and reshape.\r \r I am very disappointed in the services that I received and will not be recommending or returning to this trendy spa. I have a vary labor-intensive job, so I decided to get a massage. I have never had a massage before and was a little nervous. However the massage was vary professional, relaxing and worth every penny. The masseuse, Roz, was able to answer any of my questions about how to take better care of my muscles. more

I considered myself to be a hopeless case. Dry aging skin, unsightly bumps and blemishes. Honestly, I had always been very uncomfortable in spa environments and had never found a product line that delivered. That ALL changed when I discovered the best Dirty Little Secret in town! Right when I walked through the door I knew this place was special. The staff was very welcoming and informative. Eminence is the product line, I had never heard of them before, so what the heck. I decided to make an appointment for a facial right away as well as purchase a boatload of product, let's just say I had a hunch. more

I was chatting with my grandma the other day and she says, ""Your eyebrows look so good. How did you get them shaped like that?"" I tell her, I have Josh to thank for my brows. I've been seeing Aime for cuts and color for over two years and I've never walked away unhappy. She is just fantastic and is a goddess when it comes to working with curly hair. She's the only stylist I've ever gone to who I trust completely. She's even doing my wedding hair! And the salon is a great place - super fun, relaxed and cool. more

I've been all over the world for haircuts. What have I learned in my 38 years? There are no good ones to be found at any price. After trying 5 other ""top 10"" salons in my 6 years in Portland, and in exasperation, I gave DLS a try. and there was Lucynda, in all her fabulousness, cutting and coloring my hair with confidence and style...a virtual hair therapist. I AM HEALED!! I AM BORN AGAIN!!! I BELIEVE!! Save yourselves. Take DLS into your heart.
